Jerry West gave Kobe some high praise and called him the “greatest Laker player we’ve ever seen.” He also says Kobe Bryant is the 2nd generation MJ. Check out his interview with Jim Rome!

Great, humbling comments by Jerry West about Kobe Bryant. In my opinion, Kobe will be the “Greatest Lakers” when he retires.

“[In] college, its show and tell. Now, its tell. And I think the people who are risk takers, the people who have goals, lofty goals, themselves, the people who can bounce back from adversity… those are the ones that can excel in this world.”

Wow, wise and inspiring words. I really need this right now. Thank you, Jerry West. GO LAKERS!

    12 3’s in 1 game with 9 consecutive 3’s
9 straight games with 40 pts.
4 straight games with 50 pts,
    63 pts. in 3 quarters
tons of buzzer beater and game winners.
    81 points.
    4 rings

what else can determine as the greatest laker ever!

    • Marwan Marzina

            Nuff said… GREATEST!

  • Betto

Hahaha Just saw this video before I came here.
If Jerry West says that Kobe is the Lakers greatest player you gotta believe that, not to disrespecting either himself, Magic or all the other Lakers greats. Kobe is already a legend and will only grow even bigger once we see his jersey up there in Staples Center with the rest. Hanging alongside the championship banners. xD
And obviously after that embarrassing lost to the Celts, LBJ isn’t the best player in the league, at least not yet..
Kobe is still da man! #1 Love ya Jerry!! and thanks for the gifts you gave us all here in Lakerland. . Kobe + Pau

I think Jerry West could’ve done better and said that Kobe is the best player in the NBA. Seeing how LeBron had a major breakdown while the Lakers swept the Jazz, that has to convince him… right?

    • 242LakerFan

I think he made it clear enough that Kobe was in a league by himself today. He doesn’t have to outright say it, does he?

  • lakerman1

I have nothing but respect for Jerry West but sometime ago he said Lebron was the best player in the NBA. Which is it. And Magic has also made that same statement. One thing i will say about Cooper is hes a true Laker for life and has never said that Lebron is the best player in the NBA. A Laker should stay a Laker for life and not flipflop. People are Turning on Lebron now that he has shown his true colors and until he wins multiple Championships he will never be better then Kobe PERIOD.

    • lonestar848

West said Kobe was the greatest Lakers player ever, not the best player in the NBA.

Amen you guys, Amen. I am not a hater of Lebron James. I do think that he is a great young Basketball player. But is he a Kobe Bean Bryant? I will say Unequivocally, without any hesitation NO. Jerry West wont say it. I’ve even heard many of the NBA commentators including that TNT gang with Barkley, Smith, Ernie, and CWeb, most of them at some point have said James is better than Kobe. The only problem is, James has never produced any where near a Kobe Bryant type basketball season, nor has James ever demonstrated any of the basketball prowess, I. Q. and leadership Kobe has on the court. Kobe does everything with grace, precision, accuracy, athleticism, sheer beauty and intelligence. To me he is the quintessential Athlete of our time. Although James does possess some of these qualities, to me he does not show enough of them to be called the best, as in my humble opinion Kobe Bean Bryant no doubt is.

Hey, don’t knock ‘greatest Laker ever’. Here’s the list: Magic, Kareem, Wilt, West …. probably the top 4 out of 5 NBA players ever, ‘period’.
That means there is only ‘one left’ to top: The Great MJ. (yes, I left out Bill Russell – great team player and champion, but not one of the top 5 players, really).
So, if Kobe gets 6 rings – it’s a tie with MJ. If he gets 7 rings – well, that’s another story!

    • yash

Yea, he just so happens to be better than those top 4 out of 5, period
