Seems like Brian Shaw had some effect on the Lakers front-office and are now trying to pursue after Webber. Maybe, Shaw should push harder for Garnett since the front-office is listening to him. ;-)

Florida Today: Webber is reportedly considering offers from Detroit, Dallas and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Miami’s decision to sign Smush Parker means you can rule Pat Riley out of the Juan Carlos Navarro sweepstakes (I call him JNC because some folks on this blog tend to think that the guy is a cross between a Spanish Michael Jordan and the real JC). Perhaps the Lakers will call and make an offer now that they need a guard? Bottom line: I see Ernie getting a deal done this week.

Man the first few comments were very odd. Anyway, I don’t see C-Webb in a Lakers uniform, although I would love it. Fish Kobe Lamar J’Oneal is not bad at all.

Problem is, do we even have free agent money to be spending? Didn’t the MLE get used on fish and mihm?

    mr47

We still have one mil of MLE money and the vet min of 1.1 mil. Having Bird’s rights with Mihm doesn’t count against the MLE, like Luke’s salary didn’t count either.

It won’t get you much, unless someone don’t need the money like Weber.

  • lakerfan81

why are the Lakers trying to get the rights to Juan Carlos Navarro? They do not really need another PG, they have Fisher as the mentor and two young PGs. Do they want to use him as a back up SG? But even then they would be overloaded in the gurd position. Maybe there is a deal on the table involving either Farmar or Crittenton and they need a replacement.

    or…

This is purely speculation but, the Lakers drafted Marc Gasol, and now they are trying to get Navarro, a player Pau Gasol demanded Memphis acquire.

  • fatty

Not if Weber’s father has something to say.

For what it’s worth, Webber’s father, Mayce, hopes his son sticks around his hometown.

“Yes, I do think Chris should re-sign with Detroit,” he told Slam. “Joe Dumars has been good to him, and the fans of Detroit deserve to see Chris finish out his career there. I hope he stays.”

  • fatty

This is THEE source for Navarro speculation. Its a blogger insider Ivan Carter of the Washington Post. Read pp #3 and notice he is only “suggesting or speculating” the Lakers will call seeing as they need a guard. (which is a wrong assumption)The other articles quote from this, omitting its just wishful thinking on Carter, like its some Washington insider.

My conclusion. The Lakers are really not that interested in Navarro as we have Fish signed with Critt and Farmar.

    Weekend update
I was on the phone this morning talking to a team source who refuted a published report which said Ernie Grunfeld has offered Andray Blatche a three-year, $11 million deal. Ernie’s made an offer, make no mistake about it, but I hear that it’s less than that.

I’ll stick by my gut feeling that Andray will wind up signing a three-year deal for something in the neighborhood of $9 million. Thing is, Andray has every right to ask for three-years, $11 million because that’s what Amir Johnson got from Detroit. Stay tuned. I do know this: Ernie probably won’t sign Dominic McGuire until a deal for Blatche is done. Gotta stay under that luxury tax baby.

Some info about Navarro from Wikipedia.

Juan Carlos Navarro (Catalan: Joan Carles Navarro)(born June 13, 1980 in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Barcelona), nicknamed “La Bomba” (The Bomb), is a Spanish basketball player. The 1.92 m (6 ft 3 in) and 79 kg (169 lb) shooting guard/point guard currently plays for FC Barcelona of the Spanish ACB. He is widely considered one of the best guards in Europe.

It’s been rumored that several NBA teams are interested in him, the most notorious being Memphis Grizzlies due to his friend Gasol being there.

and bynum and kwame for Kevin Garnett and Mark Blount

trade Vlade and Farmar and pick for Artest

    sign webber for vets min

trade sasha and cook for Juan Carlos Navarro cause the wizards need to trade him, and cookie and sasha will do…

sign Coby Karl,Sun Yue, and Marc Gasol

*NOTE* we will be over luxary tax threshold…
Kobe vs LeBron
Dwyane who? Dirk what? Duncan why? KG where? Nash how? In the mighty, mighty world of the NBA, the league that boasts the world’s finest athletes, the debate can rage on forever. Who is the best? The most exciting? The most dominating? Ask a hundred people and you might get 50 different answers. But here we call it like it is. And we expose suckers for what they are – suckers. Not to say any of the above are suckers, but when it comes down to it the debate of who’s the best really centers on two players. Kobe vs. LeBron.

The Black Mamba vs. The Chosen One. The Assassin vs. The Prodigy. Could you imagine a one-on-one game between these two? Where is the video game? Remember the Larry Bird/Dr. J one? Well, LeBron vs. Kobe would kill that. These two would dominate (each other), gesticulate (wildly), articulate (each dunk), contemplate (each move) and pronunciate (each highflying trip to the rack). And for real there is no stopping either one. They can do whatever they want whenever they want. They are both really that good and really that exciting. Kobe with his 81-point explosions and LeBron with his Jordanesque playoff games and triple-double trouble. But the most important thing about them is their will to win and make the players around them better. And just like Mike, they are doing it.

LeBron took a ragtag group of castoffs to the Finals. Retreads like Damon Jones, stiffs like Zydrunas Ilgauskas and underachievers like Donyell Marshall. Kobe has been getting to the playoffs with undrafted dudes like Smush, busts like Kwame and projects like Bynum. Could these guys get a little help, please? I’m sure they both would be battling in the championship if they had some help. LeBron seems like a mainstay in the East and now that Kobe wants to be traded who knows where he’ll wind up.

There’s always been players like Nash, who come along and elevate the play of their teammates (Russell, Magic, Stockton, Isiah, Bird). But to do it like Mike, you have to not only elevate your teammates games, but you have to dominate yourself – as in physically, mentally and spiritually – by infusing your will to win into your teammates while at the same time making an undeniable impression that you are indeed the best player and athlete on the court. No easy feat. That’s why there’s only been one Mike. But if anyone can duplicate what he did, the overall greatness in every aspect, it’ll be Kobe or LeBron.

Kobe at 28 and in Lakerland is getting fed up. He wants that championship solo with no Shaq. Kobe is too proud to ride someone’s coattails and claim it as his own. He wants to be the star and have a supporting cast tailor made for him – hence the trade demands. Where will he end up nobody knows. But hopefully with some players to make an impact and a run at the title. And LeBron at 22 is playing remarkable averaging 26 ppg and almost 7 rebounds and assists per game. He’ll probably never average a triple-double, but who since Oscar Robertson has? As long as the Cavs maintain their advantage in the weak East and place some shooters around LeBron like Boobie Gibson, King James will have his shot at a championship. Because just like Kobe, he can put a team on his shoulders and his team through a playoff series like he did against the Pistons. Remember we just witnessed it and never mind the Spurs shutting him down, they were clearly the superior team. LeBron needs help. But also like Mike, he needs to step it up a little more. No excuses.

Kobe has three rings, but they probably matter little to him because he knows in his heart he was just Shaq’s caddy. Think if Jordan came in and played with Bird or Magic, it just wouldn’t be the same as him doing it by himself with all dudes under him. Kobe never liked being Robin to Shaq’s Batman and LeBron has been solo since the jump with an assortment of second fiddles who never matched Pippen to his Jordan. Boobie Gibson is nice, but can he sustain that level of play for a whole year?

With Kobe making trade demands, his future is uncertain. But he knows Odom, Bynum, Farmar and Walton are not championship caliber teammates. Birth of these superstars must be surrounded by complementary players who can hit a shot. They need a Paxson, a Kerr, a Wennington. But also both of them need to take it upon themselves and make some of their teammates into those guys by inspiring confidence just like LeBron did with Boobie.

With Kobe and LeBron’s ability to get to the rack at will, take anyone off the dribble at anytime, play great defense and be the superstars that they are under intense pressure day in and day out, they are clearly the two best players in the league today. But as to who is the best, that is open to discussion. For me, though, I’ll go with LeBron because he just led a similar Cavs team to the Finals while Kobe’s Lakers can’t get out of the first round.

Lakers Trying To Get In On Navarro

    July 29, 2007 – 3:41 pm

    Washington Post –

Ernie Grunfeld continues to field offers for guard Juan Carlos Navarro, who recently negotiated out of his contract with FC Barcelona of the Spanish pro league. Barcelona informed Grunfeld that he has until the end of the week to trade Navarro. If a trade is not worked out, Barcelona will retain Navarro and his buyout with the team will go from $2 million to $14 million.

The Miami Heat is one of at least eight teams to express interest in Navarro but will likely drop out of negotiations after signing guard Smush Parker on Friday. According to a report, Parker’s former team, the Los Angeles Lakers , could have interest in Navarro.
Here is full article> I hope this is not true!!!!!!!!

    From FoxSpots.com:
    http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/7073708

“Sources: Celtics close to deal for Garnett

The on-again, off-again deal with the Boston Celtics acquiring Kevin Garnett apparently is back on.

According to sources, the current deal on the table has the 6-foot-11 Garnett heading to Boston and the Celtics dealing away Al Jefferson, Theo Ratliff’s hefty expiring contract and Rajon Rondo. There may also be other players and draft picks involved.

It’s not quite done, but three industry sources — including one close to the Celtics — told FOXSports.com that it’s extremely close and could become official within the next 48 hours.

“It’s basically done,” one source said. “If it does happen, this will make the Celtics relevant again.”

Celtics boss Danny Ainge attempted to trade for the Minnesota Timberwolves star forward prior to the NBA Draft, but the 31-year-old perennial All-Star had no interest in heading to Boston.

However, things may have changed now that Ainge and the Celtics pulled off the draft day deal with Seattle for Ray Allen.

There have been numerous discussions during the last week between Ainge and Wolves vice president Kevin McHale, who are good friends dating back to their days playing together on the Celtics.

Garnett has the option to get out of his contract — which pays $22 million next season — after the 2008 campaign and become a free agent. He averaged 22.4 points and 12.8 rebounds per game last season — his 12th in the NBA.
Garnett is a 10-time NBA All-Star and was the league’s MVP in 2004. He is also one of the better defensive players in the NBA.

The deal would give Ainge a team that could compete with anyone in the Eastern Conference with the trio of Paul Pierce, Garnett and Allen. The Celtics would also have nearly $60 million in salaries between the three players for next season alone.

The Wolves would get one of the league’s top young players in the 22-year-old Jefferson, who averaged 16 points and 11 boards in 69 games a year ago, and a second-year point guard in Rondo with plenty of potential. They would also get Ratliff’s $11.7 million salary, which will come off the books after this season.”

The lakers call Sasha 11:30. Because they practice at 1130 am and at practice sasha literally does not miss a 3 point shot..but he cant keep it up at game time. I heard this directly from a laker, 2 weeks ago
