We are Going to Get Garnett Because he is Already here!

Special thanks to Big D for writing this take and giving us the privilege to add it to GetGarnett.com. If you have an article that is Lakers related and you know that it will interest our readers, feel free to e-mail us and will add it to the blog. Thanks!

Do you believe in destiny? If not, then you need, no, you must start believing right now!

When Phil Jackson left the Bulls in 1998, didn’t you just KNOW he was not only going to coach again, even though he vowed he never would. And didn’t you also just KNOW that, when he did return, it would be to coach the Lakers?

When I heard the news, I can remember my extreme feeling of elation, but I wasn’t surprised in the least.

Most of us have experienced “miracle revelations” in life in which we just knew something, for good or for bad, was coming. It happened to me about ten years ago. I had spent the previous night with the woman I was seeing at that time, and I got into my car to go meet my father who was driving into town from out of state for a visit. Before I closed the door to my car, I said out lout to myself “I am going to get a speeding ticket”. Guess what? About half way home I see those damn flashing lights in my mirror…got me a speeding ticket sure enough.

Also, I recall hearing a (supposedly) true story of a man who had to do some jail time. When he checked in to the jail, his golf game was mediocre at best. So he decided to make the most of his alone time by practicing his golf game. How could an incarcerated man practice his golf game? After all, he obviously did not have a golf course, clubs, or anything else to practice with. So he practiced with his mind by making the most of his imagination. He imagined every aspect of the game. He imagined his swing until it was perfect in his mind. He imagined his club striking the ball and watched the ball soar through the air only to find its target. This went on day in and day out every single day until his dues were paid in full to society. After his release from jail, he decided to see if his game indeed improved. The result: EVERY aspect of his game showed dramatic improvement!

Call it Zen, call it the law of attraction, call it The Secret, call it the Master Key, call it whatever you want, but fundamental lesson is always the same: If you believe something will come to pass, then indeed it WILL happen. (The same holds true for negative beliefs). The only requirement is you continue to think positive about your goal and go about the activities that will make it come to pass.

There are Zen archers that can hit the bullseye blindfolded every single time. Why? The arrow is already there, so of course going to “loose” it into its intended destination!

I am willing to wager that most of you landed on this sight for the same reason as I: two seasons in a row ended with the Lakers going home and the Phoenix Suns advancing to the second round of the playoffs. This year did end with a bit of a twist to it though: “Do something. And do it NOW!” This quote rang in my ears for several days and I needed a fix. An upbeat place where I could come and read Lakers rumors and sound off on them. But most importantly, I needed a place with a purpose. And thus I somehow “stumbled” upon GetGarnett.com. Perfect!

So now that we are all here together and mostly for the same purpose, I have a huge favor to ask each and every one of you: BELIEVE.

Every morning after you wake up and every night before you hit the hay I want you to picture Kevin Garnett in a Lakers’ uniform. I want you to picture him interacting with Kobe and the other players and winning games.

All I ask is a few minutes of your time per day. Time believing and, better yet, knowing this will happen. Because if enough of us pull together and believe every day, it WILL happen. That is the nature of things.

“Why wouldn’t I want the last shot when I know I’ve already made it?”

An added note in getting KG to the Lakers (via practicing “The Secret”): I absolutely agree that you have to have belief that this will happen, but you can’t just believe for the sake of believing. In other words….not only do you have to hope and pray and believe that he will be a laker, but you have to act and feel that he will be a laker; so all 3 things must be an alignment…your thoughts, feelings, and actions. For those of you thinking…what the hell is this guy talking about…..do a search on “The Secret” or “The Laws of Attractions”. haha. i dont want to make it seem like its just you. but when people put up these hypothetical trades and signing situations, to me, its ridiculous. i mean really. so many things have to go right for what you want to happen. youre banking on the lakers being able to resign chris mihm. youre already wrong in the respect that its been confirmed that marc gasol is staying in spain. and you also are making the assumption that derek fisher doesnt make the team i guess? haha. i mean. its cool to speculate. but at least get your facts right. kobe plays the 2. crittenton plays the 1. i cant be positive but i seriously doubt karl and sun are 1′s (and thats banking on that both of them are on the team next year). so i guess ya. its cool if everyone speculates and wants to post their ideas for next years lineup. but at least consider the facts that have already been established.

this has to be the worst article i have ever read on getgarnett.com i am mad that it was actually posted on here. if i got into my car and said i am going to get a speeding ticket out loud to myself, i would probably just go the speed limit. i definately believe we are going to get garnett and i am looking forward to hearing it but this is a horrible article. im sorry.

go lakers.

• kobewillnotdie

Man I thought something real was happening, I mean I do believe and all but the heading got me thinking that all the “believing” had paid off already. Come on, is there ANY news about whats happening in the physical world other than the incredible mentality that we, as lakers/kobe fans have created? Can anyone give something that is really going on? WHen i heard about the kg to lakers trade first being talked about on ESPN I was at work and I told everyone in advance that KG was already in the Lakers. And now I look like a fool at work because nothing like that has happened. I mean I’ve checking on this site literally about ten times a day! I’m not giving up on believing but I’m also honestly feeling desperate about all this. I know I’m not the only person with this on my mind.

1st of all i forgot D-fish…i edited if u want refresh, also Kobe playin SF sounds awsome cause hes a great defender and plays that position well also i know Marc and Sun Yue will play for their teams over seas, but if lakers need to fill empty spots they can call them and get em signed whenever they want…also i read somewhere that coby karl is loved by mitch lol…so i KNOW for a fact he’ll make the team he fits the triangle perfect…great shooter too….and Critt can play the 2 better than the 1….

Cavs want bibby and will give up Gooden to get him but need help to make the deal work.

The Cavaliers’ on-again, off-again, on-again trade discussions with the Kings about point guard Mike Bibby are off again, according to several sources close to the situation. The deal, according to the sources, would have included Drew Gooden, Damon Jones and a third team. But somewhere between that third team, possibly the Spurs, the deal fell through.

http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/sports/1184402488217511.xml&coll=2

So I was thinking can we help out and land Artest.

This is my idea.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=981~1031~25~61~1711~406~601&teams=23~5~13~5~23~23~23

Lakers out-
Kwame Brown
Maurice Evans

Lakers in-
Ron Artest

Cavs out-
Ira Newble
Drew Gooden
Damon Jones

Cavs in-
Maurice Evans
Mike Bibby

Kings out-
Mike Bibby
Ron Artest

Kings in-
Ira Newble
Drew Gooden
Damon Jones
Kwame Brown

Lakers New Line UP-

Fisher/Famar/JC(PG/SG)
Kobe/Sasha/Coby (Mil left from MLE)/JC(PG/SG)
Artest/Walton
Odom/Cook/Webber(Vet min)
Bynum/Mihm/Turiaf

I hate to give up Evans but to get Artest I’m fine with it.

Good for CAVS- Get Bibby for what they are willing to give up right now and improve their back up at GF with Evans

Good for SAC- They get a strong PF in Gooden, cap space with Brown. They will still need to build but have 9mil to play with next year plus MLE.

Good for LA- We keep potential in Bynum, JC, and Famar get better at the SF with Artest who brings strong D and some O we need.

If need be give Sasha up as well we don’t really need him.

Kobe aint no SF. But you can play a 3 guard offense but
that would fit the triagle very well. Someone needs size in that triagle and Lamar Odom is the right person. He is a true SF.

Trading (Bynum/Radmonvic/Farmer) for (KG/Madsen) would work out great for both teams. So that we and they have our puzzle mostly solved.
WE:
Fisher
Bryant
Odom
KG
Mihm
T’wolves:
T. Hudson
R. Foye
V. Radmoniv
J. Howard
A. Bynum or M. Blount
This will give these three a chance to play more minutes.
But I am not saying this will happen. I just wish the Lakers
the best of luck.
GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!

In the words of Josh Groban…

“Believe in what your heart is saying,
hear the melody that’s playing.
There’s no time to waste,
there’s so much to celebrate.

Believe in what you feel inside,
And give your dreams the wings to fly.
You have everything you need,
If you just believe,”

Just believe!!!!

I believe it’s a forgone conclusion. I mean the man is a Laker…no other way to say it. He’s a Laker. Everyday I come here…I think to myself, is this the day? Are all our wishes coming true? KG is coming to LA. I believe!

• JAY

cute blog…..but i can guarantee this to the writer of this blog…..every single Laker FAN of course goes to sleep at nite imagining, dreaming, drooling about KG suiting up in a LAKER uniform…….its not something thats new to us FANS……..one way to say it…….just gotta wait and see what happens next…..as fans we still don’t know what goes on behind the scenes…….most of it are speculations……i’m not saying that i don’t believe on the organization making changes…but the fact that even in the last couple years…..we coulda made changes…..but the organization has never made a significant effort to make roster adjustments.

As a Los Angeles Laker FAN…..i want Kevin Garnett to be in a Laker uniform….who the fuck doesn’t??…..i feel like if we get Garnett that’s pretty much a guaranteed championship team with a player like Kobe Bryant who can get some pressure off his shoulders which makes the game a lot more easier for him just like when he had Shaq on his team

as FANS of the Lakers. We already know what we want to make our home team a championship team again……in the end….its whether or not the organization pulls it off….it comes down to Kupchak and the Buss Family to make those efforts and keep us the so-called “FANS” to be satisfied…….its all about business in the end if you think about it that way….its all about making money…..if they want to make millions and billions of dollars…..then they gotta keep the fans happy

so with all that said and done believe me for this…..they will Get Garnett!

end of story…

Stupid article. It’s called the self fullfilling prophecy. It only works if Garnett wants to be a laker. Like you mentioned in the article, someone else didn’t say you were getting a speeding ticket, you said it. Someone else didn’t tell that convict he was going to be good at golf, he did. If the fans want him to be here, how exactly is that going to make him come here?

Nonetheless, I want him here and I will keep beleiving.

• DMo

Beers is right that Garnett has to want it. If he were to lobby for L.A., after all he’s done for the T-Wolve franchise, I have to believe it would make an impact. That said, why would he lobby to come to a team whose best player has just demanded to be traded?

That’s the problem with Kobe’s tantrum: say what you will about Mitch K., but in terms of hampering our trade prospects, he could do no worse than #24. If Kobe really wanted to play with KG in L.A., he would come out and say “this is the type of deal I was talking about in the beginning… the kind the Laker fans deserve. My trade request came out frustration because such moves weren’t being made. But if KG comes to L.A. I will let bygones be bygones and work my butt off to bring the city another parade.”

Perhaps we should be using our positive energy to help bring Kobe back to his senses…

• punkjones

Sure would be great.

• nate

KG isn’t coming to LA. Artest isn’t coming to LA. JO would be a waste if we have to give up Odom or Bynum. by now people should know that rumors are just rumors. in reality, Artest has about as little chance of coming to LA as LeBron James has going to Miami. people seem to forget that Kobe met Gasol in Spain personally and that the Grizzlies are looking to cut some money. of all the trades mentioned, Gasol is probably the most realistic one that benefits all parties involved. and all this ‘believe’ crap is BS

• Fatty

Yeah man, we don’t need the negativity. We may believe a little blindly at times, but we’ve gotten through some pretty dark times despite all the “0% chance of KG to LA” articles and shit. Garnett WILL be traded. I think pretty much everyone would agree to that, even T-Wolves fans. Maybe Golden State has a better chance, maybe not. But we have a legitimate chance. For all we know, there’s a good possibility Garnett doesn’t even want to go to GS. There was this same kind of talk about the Celtics trade early on. The fact of the matter is, we have the best offer on the table right now (us and Golden State, but I really believe that KG would not OK that deal). Minny wants more. If no other team (that Garnett OK’s, of course) comes up with something better, not even that Laker-hating GM can stop him from coming here. I think there’s plenty for us to get excited over. I would love to have Gasol too, if we could get him without giving up Odom. But at this moment it seems that KG is a much more realistic possibility, not to mention the best one.

• nba analyst

I just love all this Garnett talk…..what a bunch of hooey. And the premise, telling Kupchak to “do something”. There is a very good reason why Kupchak will not be able to fulfill the demands from non paying customers on the internet to “do something”….it is because he “has nothing” to trade for a superstar.

Sure, Odom is nice middling player…but Minnesota doesn’t want a guy like him. Kwame…good Lord, you couldn’t give him away. Fans have bitched all year about how useless the guy is….weil, they are right. If he is useless to the fan base, he is useless in a trade times two. Now we come to Bynum…yeah, he has potential….but not the kind of potential to bring in a superstar for God’s sake. He is a risk to take on in a trade…

I really wonder if Laker fans think that guys like Petrie and McHale are really so stupid to even think for a second about trades like these. Stupid trades followed up by “this works for all teams” is just so incredibly crazy.

Reality check…..the best chance to bring in Garnett was just before the draft….but you knew that it wasn’t all that good of a chance when the owner of the T-Wolves leaves the country two days prior. Jermaine O’Neal…he isn’t going to make the Lakers better…he is pretty much like Odom….and will cost LA Bynum to boot. And Artest….he isn’t going to wind up in the same division as the Kings….if he moves, it will be out East.

Back to your regularly scheduled programming of crazy trades and myopic demands….

• BelieveInLA

Kevin Garnett WILL become a Laker, but for everyone that is posting all this lame-brain crap that it is coming at a bare minimum expense of simply LO, Kwame and Bynum, or packages that include one or the other, or anything including Radman (who isn’t going anywhere with that stupid contract) leave that crack alone.

The Lakers will (and should) end up completely gutting their team, with another team helping them or not. When it finally happens, and you have time to get home from work, turn on ESPN and see who gets who and what, we’re going to look like we gave WAY too much for this guy.

But just know that the insanely cold state on the other end of the deal are looking at it completely bummed for a reason. They had probably THE BEST player in his position on their team, and not any number of players they received will replace him. Also know that Minny in no way shape or form, can do what the Lakers WILL do, and follow up trading away their main guy three years ago and form a title contender. They will have a good team on paper, but without a true star on the team, Minny will NEVER be able to compete, and will be dominated by the team that gutted themselves to Minny in the first place by sweeping the season series.

Also remember that sure, KB and KG cannot win it all with one year together (even though they WILL sweep Minny), but the real fun will be the upcoming years: When Phil re-signs for another 3-5 years, and players realize what LA is trying to accomplish, and will leave their current teams (paying them more) to play for a team that has been DESTINED to win it all.

BELIEVE IT!!!!!!

not really SF can be from 6-5 and up and kobe plays better inside and his FG% will sky rocket! and also i edited it i forgot D-Fish lol…

LOOK KOBE PLAYS EXTREMELY WELL IN THE SF POSITION!!! http://www.82games.com/0607/06LAL7C.HTM

…Kobe dominates in the “Jordan position” more than being on SG.
Kobe is no SF he is a SG, everybody knows that. Come on. The height is not the size of the person it is the width.
Kobe aint no SF. But you can play a 3 guard offense but
that would fit the triagle very well. Someone needs size in that triagle and Lamar Odom is the right person. He is a true SF.
no only thats javaris is no SG he will get killed in that position!

These kind of posts are stupid, im sorry but when I log onto getgarnett.com I wanna see REAL news. Most of the people come here to be updated about anything that is going on, not to read some article that has nothing to do with trade rumors.

JC has it right….these trades are really stupid. BelieveinLA has apparently never ever heard of the salary cap. Remember, KG will not come to LA without an extension…..and the extension will extrapolate the Lakers obvious aversion to paying luxury tax.

But then again, I really get the feeling that half these posts are a bit of a parody on the fans who are serious.

Jerry Buss has said the Luxury Tax doesn’t bother him, which is why the Lakers are in any talks, even with their ‘bad chips’, in the FIRST place. Otherwise they would be like the Suns on the outside looking in. If they didn’t want to take on the luxury tax, McHale wouldn’t waste his breath talking to them, don’t you think? I think it’s been made pretty clear any trade involving LA is going to end in the luxury tax being paid by Mr. Buss.

Nice name. I will assume you knew that already.
