Special thanks to Big D for writing this take and giving us the privilege to add it to GetGarnett.com. If you have an article that is Lakers related and you know that it will interest our readers, feel free to e-mail us and will add it to the blog. Thanks!
Do you believe in destiny? If not, then you need, no, you must start believing right now!
When Phil Jackson left the Bulls in 1998, didn’t you just KNOW he was not only going to coach again, even though he vowed he never would. And didn’t you also just KNOW that, when he did return, it would be to coach the Lakers?
When I heard the news, I can remember my extreme feeling of elation, but I wasn’t surprised in the least.
Most of us have experienced “miracle revelations” in life in which we just knew something, for good or for bad, was coming. It happened to me about ten years ago. I had spent the previous night with the woman I was seeing at that time, and I got into my car to go meet my father who was driving into town from out of state for a visit. Before I closed the door to my car, I said out lout to myself “I am going to get a speeding ticket”. Guess what? About half way home I see those damn flashing lights in my mirror…got me a speeding ticket sure enough.
Also, I recall hearing a (supposedly) true story of a man who had to do some jail time. When he checked in to the jail, his golf game was mediocre at best. So he decided to make the most of his alone time by practicing his golf game. How could an incarcerated man practice his golf game? After all, he obviously did not have a golf course, clubs, or anything else to practice with. So he practiced with his mind by making the most of his imagination. He imagined every aspect of the game. He imagined his swing until it was perfect in his mind. He imagined his club striking the ball and watched the ball soar through the air only to find its target. This went on day in and day out every single day until his dues were paid in full to society. After his release from jail, he decided to see if his game indeed improved. The result: EVERY aspect of his game showed dramatic improvement!
Call it Zen, call it the law of attraction, call it The Secret, call it the Master Key, call it whatever you want, but fundamental lesson is always the same: If you believe something will come to pass, then indeed it WILL happen. (The same holds true for negative beliefs). The only requirement is you continue to think positive about your goal and go about the activities that will make it come to pass.
There are Zen archers that can hit the bullseye blindfolded every single time. Why? The arrow is already there, so of course going to “loose” it into its intended destination!
I am willing to wager that most of you landed on this sight for the same reason as I: two seasons in a row ended with the Lakers going home and the Phoenix Suns advancing to the second round of the playoffs. This year did end with a bit of a twist to it though: “Do something. And do it NOW!” This quote rang in my ears for several days and I needed a fix. An upbeat place where I could come and read Lakers rumors and sound off on them. But most importantly, I needed a place with a purpose. And thus I somehow “stumbled” upon GetGarnett.com. Perfect!
So now that we are all here together and mostly for the same purpose, I have a huge favor to ask each and every one of you: BELIEVE.
Every morning after you wake up and every night before you hit the hay I want you to picture Kevin Garnett in a Lakers’ uniform. I want you to picture him interacting with Kobe and the other players and winning games.
All I ask is a few minutes of your time per day. Time believing and, better yet, knowing this will happen. Because if enough of us pull together and believe every day, it WILL happen. That is the nature of things.
“Why wouldn’t I want the last shot when I know I’ve already made it?”
