whereartthouL.A. Times: So, Lakers guard Sasha Vujacic, where is “The Machine”?

“The Machine is here,” Vujacic said. “I’m just not playing.”

OK, then, why aren’t you playing?

“I don’t know,” Vujacic responded. Coach Phil Jackson “has a group right now that he’s playing. I’m just going to try to be patient.”

Mostly, Vujacic has found himself in games when they already have been decided. That’s an issue for him.

“I play a couple of games in garbage time,” Vujacic said. “That’s not where I see myself. I don’t really like to play in garbage time.”

Vujacic was known for his shooting. That’s why he was given the nickname the Machine, for his shooting exploits during the 2007-08 season.

He was rewarded with a three-year, $15-million deal during the summer of 2008.

But the Machine has not been seen since then. His shooting average and scoring dropped last season, and he’s doing even worse this season.

Again one of my bigest pet peeve’s are when fans refer to the Lakers “WE” ; and say things such as “we need to trade sasha” or “we won” No my friends Mitch needs to trade sasha and the lakers won or lost had the game. None of us play for the lakers or write checks, so stop being so negitive to toward sasha because none of you could play any better! PS. rate and comment my youtube videos. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csdkL7RCtB4

    • http://LakersNation Marwan

I agree with the part with “stop being so negitive to toward sasha because none of you could play any better!” but people say “WE” to engage themselves with the Lakers team. Its more fun as a fan to think and act that you are part of the Lakers franchise. Plus real fans say “WE”. I do sometimes. Doesnt mean Im in and out, just dont realise what I say sometimes.
What the hell did you do to get kicked off TLN anyway? Now trying to make a “comeback”?

Well Im done gotta get a few hours of shut eye before my ball game.

    • lilkobe24_game_is_more_like_lilcobykarl11

What an insightful take! “…so stop being so negitive to toward sasha because none of you could play any better!” That’s like saying, because none of us can make better policy as an government official, we can’t criticize Bush or Obama. Because we can’t be chief of police, we shouldn’t come down hard on Chief Gates for the LAPD debacle with Rodney King!

Let’s stop all judgment of everyone because how are we to judge right? Except that’s exactly what you’vedone, you’ve made a judgment call on anyone who’s identified themselves with the Lakers as “we”. What an ideally simplistic world you live in your head.

Sasha sucks! That’s plain and simple! If this “machine” is playing well, then he’d get more playing time! He gets garbage time because… well, because he’s GARBAGE!

    • JerryWest

Fans usually say we. No big deal. I would try to find something more important to bash laker fans about. Tell me you have something better than a “we” statement, Please.

      • Gino

exactly. all fans say “we”. not just lakers fans. it’s whoever can be fans of whatever they would like to support. because fans do help build the excitement and energy. the fans support helps directly or indirectly. we may not play directly for the lakers, but i’m pretty damn sure that all the stuff we buy and games we attend has some sort of contribution towards the team success. our revenue helps pay for the salary of the team. no fans = no revenue

    • eh?

Yeah we don’t write the checks nor play for the Lakers, but what upsets many is that the only time effort appears is when a contract is about to end. Sasha is a prime example. Yes he’s doing what is best for him, any player would but Jesus Christ is it too much to play at least moderately after you’re paid? His stats have diminished ever since then and and all I’ve heard from him are excuses and nonsense. That’s why he was cut from his national team and that’s why some of us want him gone from the Lakers.

      • eh?

it’s also why he’s lost playing time since others on the team are willing to contribute more.

    • LC09

rafner u need to STFU wit that shi t that u dont like us sayin we..mofo its WE its always been WE if u a true laker fan ur gunna WE bcuz its ur team n u feel part of it… aitn u get a lesson b4 bout this WE shi t??? damn dude

      • The Closer

dude, i can’t understand one damn word you said

        • LC09

          u aint understand me???

    • ilikebasketball

yeah, saying “we” is apart of the fun of rooting for a team since you were a child. obviously we aren’t really apart of the team, but the fun of sports is the fantasy, the emotion of putting yourself in with all your emotion, so that you actually feel sorrow when they lose and thejoy whent hey win. saying “we” adds to that. it’s the same thing when putting yourself in a beautiful song or book, you feel like you are apart of it, like the author is writing or singing about you.

  • lakerman1

Sasha has just lost it and its sad becuase i would relly like to see him succeed at least with his shooting. He no longer can get into rhythm’ its probably because of his short playing time, unfortunately the Lakers cannot wait until he comes back around they have to create chemistry and so far the starting five look good and even with the mixture of starters the bench cannot stay consistant, continuosly blowing leads. Well there are still 65 games left maybe they will start to pick it up sure would be nice that would almost make us unbeatable. ( whoops i said us ). LOL

  • chadb

why aren’t you playing: Sasha’s answer “I don’t know” Let me give you a hint… you play horrible defense, you can’t handle the ball, and you can’t make a wide open baskets. Does that clear things up for you?

  • http://57.amklac kobe,bi-curious?

sasha is EXACTLY like a young kobe….but since he`s not a brother ,he`s benched

  • Popcorn

Sasha needs to comeback to his game which is just get open and take shots and play that annoying defense he used to play.

I think he is trying to score or create before he gets the ball
and that is not his game. Imo all he needs to do is pass the ball first then rotate and get to your shooting spots; if you get the ball wide open just shoot don’t think about creating a pass or driving because that is not your role; remember how you get to stay with the team.

The team doesn’t need you to drive or even handle the ball that much just remember your role.

    • NBAmazingkb24

Annoying defense! yea almost forgot about that part of his game.

  • http://www.sexbot.com 131-92

Sasha Vujacic=exaggerated D-Leaguer. It’s that simple. Anyone with a speck of hoops knowledge knows it’s true.

  • Ronin99

Seeing is believing. And this guy’s “game” has been missing since 2008. What’s he doing, carrying his overstuffed wallet while he plays??? How can he blame lack of minutes as a reason for his poor play when he hasn’t earned the right to get more minutes!!! The greatest player on the planet is on his team and along with the most talented team in the league. He needs to hold his own and learn from them. For now, I hate to say this…its embarassing watching him play. The Lakers have been blowing teams out lately. Then when the “machine” steps on the floor, a 20 point leads get cut to 10… He is a liability on offense and defense. Junk the “machine”!!!

  • WatWudChickSay? (WWCS)

Actualy, the fans ultimately DO write the checks: no ticket sales, no TV viewers, zero radio listeners equals no money flowing to Dr. Buss (see, for example, the WNBA). So, fans are entitled to their opinions, no matter how ignorant or uninformed they are. So what? As long as they buy, watch, or listen to Lakers, it’s all good.

As for Sasha, the guy is trying, but the guy is failing to do his job well. This is business and there is a salary cap, and lots of people get fired these days.

He’ll play elsewhere and make good money, but the Lakers need shooting guards who can, oddly enough, shoot the ball into the basket and thereby score points. Shooting guards that clank away like a jack hammer on a manhole cover, not so much.

I can miss shots, too; can I be a Laker?

  • Shannon4mvp

Sasha is a dud, he had one good year and erbody thinks hes all that. After we lost in the finals to Boston sasha is showing his real self. Do people forget that he did good that season and tried his best because his ass needed a contract and that’s exactly what he got. Players usually do better after coming from breakout season not go in fucking slump or else all you did was have one decent season not a breakout season. Screw sasha he just making excuses and Im pretty sure he will not get another contract after this one ends. 15 million 3 year contract. We fucking got robbed and everyone is regreting now.

To the guy that is so sensitive about the “we” statements..obviously Sasha’s relative! Other than that, GO LAKERS!

  • http://vinginor@aol.com onlyone laker fan in L.A.

Sasha bro you ant to know why you not play yeah.
Real simple moron you dont make basket when needed.
Now go back to your f ckin country be the hero give lakers the money you took find Vlade Divac f uck some Russian Pussy and stay away fro L.A. get Euro piece of shit cant hit a fuckin shot wide open.
PS take luke Adam and Farmar with you they suck like you.

    • Smush Walton

      … and take Luke too.

We have sure missed his “high IQ” during our winning streak. He’s another one that is a magician with a lead – when he gets on the floor a lead just disappears like magic!

  • Arjel

for me, i would rather that put sasha in starting line up at small forward position, and atleast he can play in 18 minutes…and put artest in bench with lamar odom coming off the bench.,. so sasha can get some playing minutes and to prove himself what he makes too…

Q: Is my thinking correct that, due to the NBA luxury tax, if the Lakers waived Sasha Vujacic and paid out 100% of the remaining salary of his contract, the team would still save the amount of money equal to the settlement?

    — Nick Si, Los Angeles

A: Wow, you people are really trying to get this guy out of town. I guess nobody’s impressed that he’s dating Maria Sharapova. Then again, he’s averaging only 2.1 points a game, dead last on the Lakers.

I hate to say no to Mr. Si, but there’s no way the Lakers waive Vujacic. They would have to pay the rest of his $5-million salary this season and his $5.5-million salary next season, plus an additional $10.5 million in luxury taxes over the next two seasons.

The trade route probably won’t work either. His contract will be hard to move amid our lurching economy.

Yep. “Sashapova” is here to stay.
