With a lot of trade rumors floating in the trade winds, Eric Pincus chimes in with some information about this situation…

Hoopsworld: Additionally there’s not a lot of interest in players like Luke Walton, Vladimir Radmanovic and Chris Mihm.  Coach Jackson likes the impact Walton has on the team when he’s healthy.  Both Luke and Vlad have contracts that aren’t appealing with most teams looking for cap room in either 2009 or 2010.  Mihm is a good teammate who would pass on an opportunity for more minutes on another franchise to stay a practice player with the Lakers.

All these players need pay cuts. Sometimes their inconsistency can piss you off, but we know what they can bring to the table when they’re healthy. Luke with his passing, Vlad with his shooting, and even though Mihm hasn’t played at all, I still think he would’ve been an exceptional player had he not been injured, and I would still be sad to see him go because he’s been part of the family for so long.

walton sucksbig time the only eadon pj likes him is walton and pj probably share pass the zen pipes together.Mihm is better than walton but that is not saying much. vlad can be better but with a coach that also considers him a space cadet and puts him down I don’t blame him for having his confidence down. Get rid of luke, trade him ,buy him out, or just give him away, luke just destroys the teams rythe. crawl under a rock lukeor just go wipe the table at you bbq place….you suck

A 33 & 8 team and we are talking trades. This must be Los Angeles – or New York. I would think we would let this team develop this year. That is what Phil Jackson teams do – year in, year out.

People saying Luke “sucks” kind of makes me laugh. Our offense is undeniably better because of Luke. Sure he has his flaws, but our offensive flow is much better and not as stagnant at times as it is without him.

that is so true… I just don’t understand these so called Laker fans… Either they are watching from an alternate universe or they are all a bunch of Luke hating dweebs… Wake up you dumb bums… Even though he’s not perfect (which no one is), the team is still better on offence when he is around. Also please don’t underestimate his work ethic on defence.. The guy has had either at least one steal or one block or both on all of the times he has played (check your stats). He’s just not as gifted as others on defence, but he tries and that’s what’s important… Others just sag off or don’t care like Starbury…

But it’s funny though because we can get better, the guys just have to have heart… So stop hating and give some more positive feedback you haters…

    Nuff Said.

If Luke doesn’t suck how come he is untradeable? Nobody wants him…

This would put a end to this: :)

keep Radmonivic because he has some type of potiential
and keep Mihm because he is a good back up center
So I say let Walton go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • T-Dub

How is our offense better with Luke when he didn’t time at for the first 20 or so games…the offense was just as good if not better. DILUSIONAL!

Luke strives in the Triangle offense. Other teams don’t run the triangle.

  • YellowPurpleFever

Luke Sucks Even with a high B-ball IQ does not make up for his 5 inches hoop. His shots are for practice only. No confidence at all. Ship him to Boston, I think thats where he’d love to play for as a child. We will take Powe or Allen or even Scalasomething guy, I know its a long shot. We still need DEFENSE and a quick PG.

  • Shaq786

Luke fits well in our offense…but he is not worth his contract what so ever…

Mitch’s hugest flaws are giving radman and walton huge contracts… u would think he learned from radman… but nope…

walton is a huge strenghth off the court as well… with team chemistry… but still aint worth his contract…

i think trading walton and mihm… for marko jaric and a second round pick is a good trade, that way when v.rad expires, so will, gasols,, d-fish’s and marko’s…. we can sign a great free agent

Just to throw some kind of unity out here, how about we say more than “Luke Sucks”

    How do you define “sucks”?

Does he have an incredible vertical leap? Exciting ball-handling skills or blinding speed? I agree that he does not.

BUT that makes him relatively less ATHLETIC, not a “sucky basketball player”

Does he bring a positive flow to the offense, and at least give more effort than some other NBA DIVAS and Space cadets alike? I’d have to say yes.

Of course i Would love to have a player like Ron Artest or Tayshaun Prince occupy the small forward position, but thats no longer a realistic transaction. Sometimes it’s good to have scrappy players who simply play hard and help the chemistry and the team mesh together on and off the court. Last I checked, we have a tight group of guys who like eachother on and off the court. No more Shaq versus Kobe, proving that it’s not always a good thing to have too many egos with all-star caliber talent who do what’s better for themselves. Looking back in retrospect, that was a team that won 3 titles, but they could have won 5 or 6 – a product of disfunction.

Ultimately, what we have here is the best of a “bad” situation. C’mon guys, be more optimistic, other teams would KILL to have the problems we have, especially at a 34-8 record, being a deadly team when we want to be.

Just enjoy the ride, at this point, there is no other team that I feel better about in the league than our very own Lakers.

  • imfasterthanur

By the way, Vlade Radmonovic on the other hand…yeah, he SUCKS big time. LOL

I can’t even imagine trying to justify that guy.

  • Moses

It’s not necessarily that Luke or Vladi suck, it’s more anger from fans at the amount of money they get paid and the impact that this has on the team’s financial flexibility that irritates people.

Both have their value to the team, but because of the long term implications of their deals, and couple that with the fact that you could probably get better for the amount of money they earn, then you can see the annoyance. Both can be frustratingly inconsistent also which isn’t the most endearing thing about them.

At their best both are game changing types, but because they both have a lot left on their deals, very difficult to move.

  • xtro

don’t mess w/ chemistry. just add another hard nosed defender.

  • lakerman1

Luke has fell out of Phil’s favor. What happen to his three point shots remember a couple of years ago when he started the season in the top three. He misses easy lay ups, pathethic mid range shot and does not run the triangle as well as he use to. Also the guy is injury prone. All i am saying is for 30 mil produce more.
