Imagine the United States using the War of 1812 as justification to commit human rights violations...what valid argument is there for kidnapping book publishers in Hong Kong to censor people?

The US do have the Guantanamo Bay Prison.  https://en.wikipedia..._detention_camp  Sure, no justification for people kidnapping.  Same for burning Chinese flags or industry of opium sales.  You never get enough information about what is really going on and why, to be able to support any of the conflict's sides being youself external to it.  Just opinions based on what we currenty know.  That is why to me it is not that the guy should have waited.  No way an NBA GM can tweet such general statements which could be seen as far as his support for burning Chinese flags.  Wait plus be more specific and politically correct, that could be the solution, if you are right to be against HK kidnapping, you must be against the Guantanamo stuff, too.

Guantanamo Bay is not an accurate analogy. I won't deny horrible things go on there in the name of national security but let's not act like some poor schmuck from Rhode Island got sent there for talking smack about Trump. China censored Winnie the f-ing Poo ffs.

Morey is not nobody. Rockets is traditionally a China team since Yao Ming played there. Harden is selling [expletive] lots of merchandise in China. They have lots of fans. Had Morey thought about the implications of his position for a second, he would not dare post that tweet. He is an idiot for doing that. We are talking about multifaceted exchange between two nations. It is way complicated.

Let's look at it from another angle. Say Magic Johnson comes out and supports Trump in 2020 (unlikely) but what do you think the fanbase of Lakers would think considering historically California is home to Democrats? There would be outrage. The situation is similar. The people in USA weigh in on these local affairs as if it is happening on their backyard. You have to be 1) educated about the issue, 2) have organic ties to even have the say, especially for such a chronic problem.

This This This.  His position is fine, it is a position that probably most people in this country support, his timing was questionable at best and cause serious damage and it could have been way worse.  It is easy to sit over here and criticize China, its entirely a different thing to be stuck in the country when it all goes down.

Lol US police are still killing Blacks indiscriminately and they are doing that based on a fear installed into them by a 300 years old "value/tradition". so stop acting like US is the moral compass of the world.  You may think China make Muslim denounce Islamic extremism is brain washing. In 2009, 2 Muslim terrorist attacks in China killed well over 1000 people.  When that happened to US.  We fought 3 wars and a million or more civilians died in the process, and those wars are still going on.  What China is doing is far less disruptive and far more effective.

those Hong Kong rioters are chanting "go back to China" to mainland tourists and beating up people speaking mandarin.  those actions speaks for themselves.

as for the book sellers, just remember snowden and assange are still hiding under political asylums.  while the FBI and US government were suspected in the MLK's assassination.   those booksellers were selling into china illegal materials, which China won't care if they sell to anywhere else, because i actually bought the same books here in LA.   They were actually arrested on their way into China.  one of them actually had a mistress in China. So stop acting like they were exercising their freedom, when they were breaking Chinese law while in Hong Kong.

There no pure haters or pure fans.  It's just the ignorant and the observant.  The pure haters and pure fans are the ignorant, while the rest are the less observant or the more observant.
