Pelinka will run the Lakers coaching search. As @wojespn reported Ty Lue is one of the leading candidates. The expectation is they will talk to others, too, though.

Good news is if the Lakers and Kings want the same coach - we'll likely win out, lol

Copied from other thread:

First things first

We shouldn't hire a coach until we have a President to hire him.

That being said, both Ty Lue and Monty Williams are perfectly acceptable candidates.

Lue is a solid Xs and Os coach. The Cavs elbow series, featuring LeBron at the high post, was deadly and was something we should have abused this season. Here's two plays from it I clipped for you guys...

This is a play the Cavs ran many times season, called a high post split. You start with James catching the ball at the elbow, and the guard who makes the pass screens for the player in the corner. The guard screening needs to be able to shoot somewhat ok, but that could have been anyone. The other two players are spaced too far apart to where the help can't come off the cut even if they sagged, and you can actually see JR Smith's defender doing that.  Imagine Ingram in place of Kevin Love here - it could be EVEN better.

Here's another play the Cavs ran, called a single side tag. This one is complicated, but basically, you can see that the guard passes to James, sets a screen for the other guard who clears out. Then Nance (a non-shooter) comes up to set the PnR for James on the strong side. This leaves only one defender to help off the weakside, meaning either a lob for Nance, open layup for James, or a wide open 3 for the weakside. Thus the name, single side tag. Instead of Clarkson shooting this jumper, what if this was Bullock?

Don't have film on Williams playbook to pull right away. But he's solid too. I can do some digging there if needed.

If Jason Kidd isn’t considered, I’ll give up being a Lakers fan.

As much as i want someone else besides ty lue, we just have to accept that we are in the lebron era, and if lebron wants ty lue then we’ll go with him. I prefer monty though if those are the only people That we are considering.

Why would anyone consider him. He is a proven bad coach.

Right? Phil, by pedigree alone, can straighten out LeBron & his posse.

Would Phil Jackson write a book and talk about LeBron?

Monty is my preferable option of the 2. Hes got a resume a mile long with a lot of great coaches.

Lue is a lateral move to Walton. Some might argue hes better or worse but they aren't better or worse than one another to really see a difference that much. I understand he has good qualities but it takes more than that and there are other coaches with better.

Though I really wish Messina could get a chance. He just seems like the next upcoming coach and the experience he has had in so many different leagues is insane.

Ty Lue has been the coach for about 2 months now. Just waiting on the announcement.

I don’t really mind it if they sign a second star.

His offensive playbook is much better and he’s proven he can maximize LeBron if given a proper roster...so I don’t think he’s a lateral move from Walton. A significant upgrade? Probably not.

But he’s good enough...I immediately see most of our late game troubles disappearing.

Also, Lue was a defensive guy and in charge of that for the Clippers before becoming a full-time coach. The Cavaliers have done ok, he’s done a good job scheming and making adjustments to defensive gameplans through the years and from reg season to playoffs. When they haven’t had the personnel, they’ve sucked of course.

Offense: Lue by a lot
Defense: Luke by a little
Locker room mgmt: Lue, LeBron factor
Rotations: Lue by a little
In-Game Adjustments: Lue by a considerably large amount

I do have some concerns, but I’ll give the guy a shot.
