NBA spokesman Mike Bass tells ESPN: “The league office is looking into whether any contact took place between Ben Simmons and the Los Angeles Lakers that violated NBA rules.”

"Rob Pelinka called me and said that Ben (Simmons) wanted to talk to Hall of Famers after the season, Magic was on the list. He asked for authorization... I said no. This was over a month ago." - Elton Brand shooting down the Ben/Magic meeting 1f525.png1f525.png1f525.png1f525.png1f525.png

OK, I have 2 things on the Simmons/Magic front. 1. I've had a source tell me that the 76ers initiated the discussion about Simmons wanting to meet with Magic. The source said Pelinka was calling Elton Brand back to say they weren't comfortable with it.

2. Spoke to someone familiar with Simmons' thinking who said Simmons spends his summers in LA, that his desire to meet with Johnson is simply about their on-court similarities, and that he'll be a Sixer for a long time.

I feel like we have to be more low key in some of the stuff we're doing. AD and multiple tampering investigations have all been an issue because we did things in the public sphere.

Don’t believe there should be anything to see here. More of a witch-hunt at this point.

UPDATE: The Lakers have denied that they tampered with Ben Simmons in any way, and say the Sixers first reached out to the Lakers about Simmons' interest in speaking with Magic Johnson:

Before i give my 2 cents, I am waiting for more info to come out first., So fat, looks like the 6ers are at fault

Yup why do you think free agents sign at midnight on July 1st? Teams are talking to agents about players they shouldn't be allowed to. Tampering is a necessary evil and every team does it. Getting absurd at this point.

Magic fined for comments about Giannis, comments that the Bucks quoted on their team website. Now Ben Simmons wants to meet Magic, not the other way around, and the league is looking into it? Gtfoh with this already. Something tells me if a player wanted to chat with Larry Bird or IT in the summer when they were running the Pacers and Knicks nobody would have cared, in the league office or otherwise.

Teams hate our dominance. Hate our socal attitude. Hate the ego that comes with being a Laker, all the way from ownership to fan level

Yea. ESPNLA is going over magic's comments. He should have just stopped after yea yea. Instead, he spilled more info than he really needed to. They also stated that Elton Brand had brought it up a month or 2 ago and why was Magic speaking on it now.

Elton Brand called Magic Johnson Monday afternoon to apologize for insinuating that the Lakers had called —unprompted— to ask permission for Johnson to speak with Sixers forward Ben Simmons in a radio interview Monday morning, league sources told ESPN.

Maybe this will finally get the lakers some good will after getting falsely accused.
