The 3rd quarter is often when you see coaches' value.  Half time adjustments separate the good coach from the average one.  Luke does ok in that department.

Defense, especially from Lonzo Ball, helped turn this around.

Offensively, our transition game was very good, as usual. However, there were a couple of possessions towards the end that concerned me. The Nuggets came right out of the timeout at around 4:56 in the fourth quarter and got Jokic a clean look from 20 off a screen which he splashed. Then they stopped going for offensive rebounds to take away our transition game and made us execute in the half court. Fortunately, Stephenson and Ball managed to knock down a couple of 3s, but they tested our half court execution. We didn't run much, but were saved by a couple of guys who were hot, especially as James fumbled a few times too. Can't count on that every night.

Lots of positive takeaways. But I am worried about that fact. Smarter teams will continue to test our halfcourt execution. And if on the road, Stephenson can't isolate like that, we will have an Achilles heel.

Not bumping this as an “I told you so” - but more just to show it IS possible to recognize shortcomings in a team’s system (or lack thereof) even without half a season‘s worth of games. Especially with a returning head coach. Props to Magic for recognizing this and let’s see what we do moving forward.

The Lakers score the 3rd most points in the league. Offense is not their issue.

I agree but at the same time we play at a very fast pace. But defense and rebounding are our biggest issues. We were active defending the perimeter against the Blazers last night and that's why we won.

"Shortcomings of what?" would suit better.

Defense is fine.

I like to dip my feet in toilet water & smell them.

Bumping this because criticizing the offense has now become fashionable. But it's for the EXACT same reasons I listed October 3rd. And I was criticized heavily for the analysis, too.
