That wasn’t necessarily it. It’s the help defense that’s a problem and the rotations. Believe it or not Luke should’ve used Zubac more. He was a big body we could’ve used to stop them from driving.

Personally think we shoulda used Frye this game. He knows how to set screens and play his role. Not a fan of zubac right now. Maybe Thomas Bryant? I like his athleticism and energy but not sure he’s ready

They had 9 turnovers shot 81% from ft line

We had 17 turnovers shot 68% from ft line

Didn't know IT was THIS terrible on D, but he wasn't the only one getting killed out there. Hope he adjusts to the Lakers speed, I don't want another ball hog (like JC)

It is a coincidence because it was happening with him on the bench as well

It wasn't but ok. He was the worst defender on the floor and it made the whole team worse trying to compensate.

Every time you think this team makes strides, they take a step back.

They looked really bad at the end of that game.

Lol it definitely was happening with him on the bench as well.

Defensive basketball isn’t that simple. The Celtics were one of the best defensive teams in basketball last season with him playing major minutes

I saw the whole game. I saw KCP getting blown by, hart getting blown by, Ingram etc

Wasn’t just Thomas. Sure he played bad defense but he ain’t the cause of this whacking

They are making strides. They don’t have to win out the season to make strides. They’re still a young team integrating a guy like Thomas into the fold who does change how you play

Doubtfull any of you would want to rescind this trade. Dallas has played the Lakers tuff for some time, would’ve been a nice win but who’s next?then break chance to regroup make end run

That wasnt a step back. We are still super young and trending upward.

I don't think it's a coincidence that this is the worst we have looked defensively in a long time and it just happens to be IT's first game.

They were paying horrible on defense the entire start of the game when IT wasn't playing. Actually lakers were on track to 170 points durring the time IT wasn't playing so blaming him makes no sense here.

I think what happened here in this game is they think they can just outscore dallas and totally forgot to play defense.. oh and and big credit to carlisle, he outcoached luke in this game and luke couldnt adjust

I think the bigger problem was lacking nance. He helped rebounding and defense when you take Lopez out

We missed him in rotation

Look they run 3 very quick guards and have a very athletic big man and another big man who can shoot from anywhere

It’s a tough matchup for a young team. Also keep in mind. They have quite a bit of vets

Barrea, dirk, Barnes, matthews

They’re a bad matchup for us

I thought the Lakers had these kind of defensive issues with him though. At times, the Lakers just can't protect the rim.

What about running at Thomas, kuzma, Ingram, Randle, Lopez to finish the game?

Aside from the poor defense, I think what really broke our back this game was the poor free throw shooting (again).

There was a point in 3rd quarter where we missed 4 free throws in a row (Randle, KCP) and that provided just enough seperation for the Mavs to close out the quarter up top.

For all Mejri's heroics in 4th quarter, the Mavs still allowed the Lakers to shoot 47.1% from the 3 and 54.8% overall. Therefore, the defense argument is a wash for this game. We needed to hit our free throws and box out the opponent properly. I think the team with Lonzo will be a good measure how we will fare in remaining of the season.
