Magic could choose to say nothing. What is gained by telegraphing this?

Julius is playing better and they want to save resign him ...add George and then evaluate a sophmore Lonzo and Kuz

That’s what’s cooking imo

It kinda sounds like some of the people here didn't actually read the article.

It seems like they're still going to go for it in 2018, but aren't going to just use up the cap space on just any players. They're not going to spend it if no good players are going to accept that money.

And, that's the correct approach. Making themselves spend the money is how they end up with another Mozgov and Deng.

Yep, that's how i read it as well. If we miss out on two max guys we're not just throwing that money at other non-max players. Amazingly Mitch and Jim avoided this for a couple of years in a row which landed us much fo the talent we have now. In the end they didn't have the stomach to find the balance between trying to win now and winning big later, which ended in Deng and Mozzy.

If they didn't make those crappy moves, we would have been much better this season as D-Lo would still be a Laker and we would have had an easier time creating cap space for two max guys in 2018.

We are still in December. He should have kept quiet.

Mitch was probably the best in business for never showing his hand.

Agree. Magic should have kept quiet. Mitch never showed his hand, but he was also sitting on his hands most of the time doing nothing.

I think people read the article.

They are bothered by the perception that the Lakers are no longer as confident in acquiring 2 max free agents as they were this past summer, so much so, that it's already being discussed in December.

Magic being Magic, whats new? Since '79 the guy has never shied away from the mic, what makes you think now would be different? Typical LA fans getting wild up for nothing... Personally his statement didn't say anything anyone didn't already know, swinging for 2 this summer but if we strike out we'll swing again the following year... basically he didn't say much.

Zzzzzzzz

BTW Im not any less confident in free agency after reading the article...

Zzzzzz

That's fine and I've always felt that the other max slot was going to be used in house.  The issue is when you resign Randle the other max slot disappears.  There won't be a max slot to punt into 2019.

You can still have confidence in a plan while also having a back-up plan.

I think being prepared for other scenarios is a good thing.

I never expected us to get two max free agents, let alone some of the best players of their position. We haven't even been able to sign competent, consistent mid-tier players.

The goal is to get at least Paul George this offseason. Build a strong Playoff team and then they'll be in play to sign other players. We just need that first star free agent to sign, and if isn't Paul George, I'm not sure who it's going to be.

Do what we did this year... large one years or start all our home grown - youth

Randle /
Kuzma / Deng ** ?
Ingram /
Hart / Clarkson /
Lonzo /

fill in the bench with 1 years auditions and wait for Deng to come off?
