Would play him over Brewer tbh.

Brewer has his moments.
not many but, he has a play here and there.

Can Deng be so bad that he’s worse than brewer though?

Have u ever coached anything?

Think Magic and Rob brought in Brewer for nothing.

Lakers Give Up On Trading Luol Deng, Expected To Use Stretch Provision

JAN 9, 2018 9:39 AM

Deng_Luol_lal_161224.jpg

The Los Angeles Lakers have given up on the possibility of trading away Luol Deng this season. Deng has only played in one game this season as he was clearly not in the Lakers' plans.

Deng and the Lakers haven't discussed a buyout since late November.

Deng has little reason to accept a buyout as the Lakers will likely waive and stretch him this offseason. Deng has $37 million owed to him after the current season.

The Lakers signed Deng to a four-year, $72 million deal in 2016.

I thought Deng was somewhere in the Caribbean sipping on a Margarita counting his 72 million retirement check.

This summer is set up to be either a huge win for us or a huge L.

Really feel like the reputation of our FO hangs in the balance.

I think PG is a possibility but if we're going to try and trade Clarkson / Randle / Nance AND stretch Deng then it's pretty clear management is operating under the assumption that we are going to sign not just one star this summer but two.  Otherwise what's the point of stretching Deng now?

Here's hoping we at least get PG.  Because if we traded away Russell, two of JC / Randle / Nance, and stretch Deng on top of that and then we strike out in free agency Magic and Rob are gonna look like jabronies lol

The problem for many fans is getting PG wont be enough, some Laker fans have unrealistic expectations thus anything short of PG + Bron or PG + Boogie will be a letdown.

Here's to getting PG.

My hope is we get at least one.
My fear is we get NONE again.

Magic has already stated plan B is to do Plan A again in 2019 lol

It's been so long since we've had a really good player . . .

I don't think you stretch Deng until you have #2 ready to sign on the dotted line.  (Unless there's a deadline I'm not aware of).

No team is going to take 3 bad years of Luol Deng. The Lakers insisting Deng come with any package of Clarkson/Randle was what held deals back. Also because OKC and New Orleans have decided to just ride it out the remainder of the season for a long shot chance at winning a championship or advancing deep in the playoffs and just keeping PG/Cousins.

Hell, at 2 years of Luol Deng, it'll probably have to come packaged with a draft pick or Clarkson/Nance/Randle at a minimum, and even at that there's only a few teams that's appealing to.

1 more year of Deng, we can unload fairly easily.

Magic/Pelinka: Stop trying to force teams to take Deng. KCP and Brook Lopez won't get resigned next season at their current rate, thats $40M off the books from those 2 alone.

It's been reported for a couple of days that the Lakers have "given up" on the prospect of unloading Deng's contract.

They should extend him and stretch him like emplay suggested.

Extending him is the move. If he really cared about playing basketball, he would take the buyout. Sad his career had to end like this though, I don't blame him for taking the terrible contract LA offered.

I wonder how bad he is.
I guess we’ll see if anyone signs him after we stretch him

He still part of the team? Does he practice? Does he fly with them? What does he even do? Smoke cigars, check his bank balance and complain?

If we're stuck with him, we're stuck with him.

If he can give us 10 minutes off the bench, let's just go for it.

Nothing to lose at this point.

Since brewer is out, i hope they give minutes to deng, even if it just small minutes. I believe he can still play, weve got nothing to lose playing him and only way we can trade him is if we play him
