What are the Lakers actually trying to do defensively?

Is there a system in place that we are actually trying to run?   What players on our roster work best with what we are trying to do?   What pieces are we missing?

I'd love to know.

Our strategy is to stop teams from shooting the three ball by just allowing them to get to the rim at will. It's better to give up a 2 than a 3 lol.

The strategy is to out score our opponents. That’s it.

I think you're right, make more points than the other team running like crazy, with no defense at all.

Lakers need to shell out top dollar and hire Luke a real defensive Xs and Os guy.

Funny thing is, this worked at times last year since we actually had shooters/scorers. Now...not so much.

From the outset last night, it looked like the team had a purpose on defense.

Was this the first game we gave up < 100?

And 5 extra minutes

Big!

Praying for  1. Some Cohesion (Ill fitting parts with young bucks, new guys, and those playing for next contracts may muck things up all season) 2. Better Coaching, No More Tanking (Last season was more of the latter but not sure how much of the former we can count on. Walton with something to prove this season as much as any Laker player) 3. Rookie Watch (Hoping Lonzo outshines his daddy (ROTY??), and Kuzma finds minutes and makes a push for all rook 2nd team)

READY FOR SEASON!!!

Hmm

I think the main idea is just to switch everything.

Maybe the first game since we had Dwight.

What are the Lakers actually trying to do defensively?

Using speed and versatility along with switching.

Is there a system in place that we are actually trying to run?

Depends on what you mean by "system".  They have good rotations and the switching is fine most of the time.

To be honest, when they play together, it looks like the defensive "shell" drills we coach.  When they don't, well...

What players on our roster work best with what we are trying to do?

Lonzo/Hart/Caruso/Clarkson/KCP

Brewer/Ingram/Kuzma/Nance

What pieces are we missing?

Rim Protector who can switch off on the perimeter in spots...we don't have a guy that directs the defense and can react quickly to cover a lot of faults.  Ibaka in his prime, Javelle McGee in his prime, Chris Andersen in his prime.

We saw what happens when Randle is active on the defensive end...

I think Jordan Bell-Type could have become that in time.

Marquisse Chriss is a guy I wanted to trade Randle for for this exact reason.

I'm sure there are others that could be better...just throwing out names to explain my opinion/observations.

They played small and switched everything.

What about Hart defending the bigs? He did it pretty well when they switched, wasn't expecting that. The guy is strong, definetely want to see more of him.

You can tell they installed defensive PRINCIPLES and that's a GREAT THING.

Switching is a GOOD thing because our length and size is crazy along with good lateral speed and overall versatility.  If we could learn to funnel the ball and actually had someone to funnel the ball to, we'd be fine.

Mason Plumlee is a guy I think would make sense for us.

I was worried about our defensive coaching...while we aren't great, we are MUCH better than I expected.

10th rated D is better than 30th, they might be starting to buy in on what Luke’s preaching.
