Shoots 6/7 from 3 last night, playing his best game since his days as a Wizard. Meanwhile all we got was this:

Do we fire Luke Walton? I am getting tired of this inefficient offense clearly not utilizing our guys properly

Young is in a role and position on a roster that literally requires nothing of him outside from shooting the basketball.

He would have been a nice shooter to have alongside Zo or even the bench unit to provide a scoring spark, but long term, he made no sense.  Developing youngsters and allowing guys like Ingram, Kuzma, Clarkson, and Ball prove their value on the offense is a much more reasonable long term move.  It's a no brainer why he left and also a no brainer why he'll succeed with the Warriors.

Anyone see that in game interview w Kerr?

He was asked about swaggy hitting all those shots.

Kerr goes "Well he only hit 1 in the preseason"

Praying for  1. Some Cohesion (Ill fitting parts with young bucks, new guys, and those playing for next contracts may muck things up all season) 2. Better Coaching, No More Tanking (Last season was more of the latter but not sure how much of the former we can count on. Walton with something to prove this season as much as any Laker player) 3. Rookie Watch (Hoping Lonzo outshines his daddy (ROTY??), and Kuzma finds minutes and makes a push for all rook 2nd team)

READY FOR SEASON!!!

He's a role player who's only job is to make wide open threes off the bench. He can do that efficiently. But when he has to be a starter and be the core to an offense and create his own shot it's a little bit harder. I'm not salty at all - we hoped he can be a veteran leader to a young team, but he's not. Now he's back at the spot is his - a role player.

Our offense is trash right now.

I thought Luke would model it off Kerr's offense with less PnR and more off ball movement.

Instead I've been seeing too much PnR, too much isos, and too much standing around in general.

Our offense sucks. That's not reactionary. It's been true since last year.

Young made some 3s... yeah, lets fire Walton, and trade Ingram, Lonzo, all the busts. We need to start over, now...

1. We haven't played a game yet so chill. We're not a playoff team so yes we're probably gonna suck on both ends.

2. Our offense has zero to do with Nick going to the greatest offense of all time and making wide open 3's.

Maybe we should emulate this "greatest offense of all time" to some degree. I know we don't have an equivalent roster, but I don't see us utilizing the right principles.

Meanwhile Russell scores 30 after working with Kenny Atkinson all summer;

Instead I've been seeing too much PnR, too much isos, and too much standing around in general.

Screens and off-ball movement are the foundation of this offense.  The guys are in position, they just aren't executing.  This offense hums when a guard gets free and he has a head of steam going towards the basket.  The entire D has to react or give up an open shot or layup.  Once that happens a few times, all of the passing and cutting lanes open up so the entire team becomes a threat.  I keep trying to get you guys to understand that.

This offense needs unselfish players who want to play the right way.  That means sacrificing a lot of "me-ball" to do the little things like set 2 or 3 off-ball screens in a row or cut hard along the baseline as a decoy to clear-out a sidebar a slip-screen and roll.

The P&R you've been seeing is happening because there are guys who settle for the first thing that comes their way, low-hanging fruit.  If they keep the ball moving, it will find the open man, which hasn't been happening a lot.

I'm not an expert on this offense but it's not hard to see where it's breaking down.  Until this entire team gets on the same page and plays for each other, this offense will never get off the ground.  Not sure that's completely on the coach.  We need time to jettison some of the players that don't fit and bring in some guys that do.

Also might help to have some guys over 30% from 3?
