Lakers got lucky. I bet if this was Stern and not Silver we would be looking at a much worse penalty.

2nd highest fine in NBA league history

Makes me think they were close to taking away a pick if its that high.

Pelinka had contact with George's agent after the NBA warned the Lakers about tampering.

Wonder what was said, because George's agent is also Randle/Russell's, so they have to had found something regarding PG.

"The conduct at issue involved communications by Rob Pelinka with the agent representing Paul George that constituted a prohibited expression of interest in the player while he was under contract. The penalty reflected a previous warning issued by the NBA to the Lakers regarding tampering, following comments made by Lakers President of Basketball Operations Earvin Johnson about Paul George during an April 20 national television appearance"

Peter Vecsey on SXM this morning reporting league concluded no tampering by Lakers.
Case closed

Praying for  1. Some Cohesion (Ill fitting parts with young bucks, new guys, and those playing for next contracts may muck things up all season) 2. Better Coaching, No More Tanking (Last season was more of the latter but not sure how much of the former we can count on. Walton with something to prove this season as much as any Laker player) 3. Rookie Watch (Hoping Lonzo outshines his daddy (ROTY??), and Kuzma finds minutes and makes a push for all rook 2nd team)

READY FOR SEASON!!!

Should come out of Magic and Rob's paycheck imo.

To be paid back by organization if PG becomes a Laker next season

I would've loved for the Lakers to have been completely absolved of the situation. I'm a little disappointed that didn't happen.

But, I guess it could've been a lot worse. Potentially giving up future draft picks was very scary. Not being able to potentially sign George would've been bad too.

This tampering happens constantly in the NBA.

Glad its done.  A silly slap on the wrist, on with the business of basketball now.

It is funny.  Pacers file the charges.   They get nothing.  League gets $500K to distribute to a charity of its choice.

It feels like the Lakers just sorta gave in and said the money is what we'll do so you stop hanging this over our head. I don't see any possible way there was any proof of actual tampering.

Rob talked to an agent who represents a player he has on contract and Magic joked on TV, and we still don't have Paul George.

It's so quickly forgotten that Paul George's camp came out last summer and said don't give away any young asset and gut your core to get me in a trade. His teammates even said all he can talk about is how great it is in LA.

This situation only went down because we don't have a player on Paul's level to have an open conversation about these things. LeBron and Wade planned Miami well in advance and Draymond and KD talked for a few years about the current Warriors.

According to an impeccable source, for two months, the independent law firm hired by the league, investigated tampering charges filed by Pacers’ owner, Herb Simon. And it determined that Pelinka was the Palooka who communicated with Paul George’s agent, Aaron Mintz, and expressed interest in his Indiana- contracted client. His exact words, I’m informed, were, “We’d like your guy to play for us.”

Still, just because Adam Silver feels his punishment fits the crime, it doesn’t mean Herb Simon will accept it. A confidant of the Pacers’ long-time owner, says he plans to raise a stink at the league’s next Board of Governors meeting. "He’s so fed up, don’t be shocked if he sues the league and the Lakers for damages."

Glad this BS is put to bed. Let's move on to some basketball. I would say with recent developments (RE: Those Guys), the pressure is now on the Lakers organization to return the franchise to prominence to match.
