8/22 Update:

Brian Windhorst @WindhorstESPN
Cavs and Celtics on verge of a deal: Kyrie Irving for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and 2018 Nets pick unprotected, sources say

Shams Charania @ShamsCharania
Cleveland and Boston have agreement on deal to send Kyrie Irving to the Celtics for Isaiah Thomas package to Cavs, sources tell The Vertical

Kyrie Irving is ready to end his run with the Cleveland Cavaliers, as league sources told ESPN that the guard has asked the team to trade him.

The request came last week and was made to Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert. Irving has expressed that he wants to go play in a situation where he can be a more focal point and no longer wants to play alongside LeBron James, sources said.

Irving's agent Jeff Wechsler would not confirm or deny whether Irving asked for a trade.

"Kyrie and I had a meeting with Cavs leadership where we discussed many different scenarios in reference to Kyrie and his future with the team," Wechsler told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. "The basis of those discussions and what went on in those discussions are between the Cavs and us. We are respectfully going to keep those private."

The Cavaliers parted with general manager David Griffin last month after they couldn't come to an agreement on a contract extension. Cleveland has yet to name Griffin's replacement, and franchise centerpiece LeBron James has reportedly expressed concern about the team's direction.

James was informed of Irving's request and was blindsided and disappointed, sources said. Other members of the team have learned of Irving's intentions in recent days as well.

Literally made me spit my drink out.

What's his trade value? Dan Gilbert is petty. Given that, I see him not granting this demand and making Kyrie stick around.

All 29 NBA teams will call the Cavs today and see how they can get him. If Cleveland was run properly, they could get some extremely valuable assets back for Kyrie.

I would be on the phone with Cleveland now. You can have anyone not named Ingram.

Kyrie's preferred destination is San Antonio, according to Woj.

If we can keep Ingram great. But bring Kyrie to LA at all costs. If that happens, then next years free agency will be for the Lakers to take.

Of course. The benefit of having a consistent winning culture. Most of these players want good or better situations for themselves. They care less about the bright lights.

Wonder what this means for Rose. No Kyrie and they aren't even getting to the finals. So whats the point in even taking less to go there.

Chris Haynes @ChrisBHaynes

ESPN Sources: On Kyrie Irving front, Cavs were given four preferred landing spots: New York, Miami, San Antonio, Minnesota.

Hmm his 1-1 style doesnt really fit with the direction Lakers are taking (they'd have to change philosophy completely) but this further opens the that Lebron 2018 door

His 1on1 style won the Cavs the 2016 championship. Team ball does not always equate to wins. You need to have a Kobe-esque dude. This is it.

The Lakers better not stand pat her. He still has a couple of years left on his contract. So bring him over, and this will ensure George + another free agent comes next season.

He's good, but I'm not ready to buckle for him.   It just highlights that the Cavs are breaking down.

Good.
