@Tensai - to make things a little interesting, I'm making a similar spreadsheet with my predictions as well. It's similar but based on recent play, I think the t'wolves, spurs and nuggets are the weakest as their record over the last ten games are, respectively: 5-5, 3-7, and 5-5. The Thunder and Clippers are 7-3 and the Pelicans, Jazz, and Lakers are 8-2. I'm also giving the Pacers the edge in their matchups. Since the Lakers only have a very long shot of making the playoffs, I've exaggerated their win/loss. The only way they're making the playoffs is if they pull off something very unexpected so I had to make an unexpected prediction of 14-1 with their lone loss against the Rockets.
You're prediction gave the Lakers three losses that are against the warriors today, the last game against the clippers and you have us splitting the two games against the jazz. I think we can beat the depleted warriors today, we'll be playing with our hearts and a playoff berth (and denying the clippers a playoff berth) the last game so I think we can win those two games. if we want to make the playoffs, well we're just going to need to beat the jazz plain and simple. from your predictions, it looks like the 8th seed has to be a 45 win team. Our margin of error is incredibly slim to non-existent.
And 14-1 sounds pretty far-fetched but we have a pretty easy schedule. games against Miami, Memphis, Detroit, dallas, bucks, kings is 6 wins of 15. two games against Utah. a game against the spurs. one vs the clippers. that's 10. i'm only concerned about the jazz so far. then the last five games - this is not in order btw - are the pacers, pelicans, wolves, Houston, and the warriors. I think we'll beat the warriors today. we'll lose against the rockets (although we've had some very close games against them and if the warriors lose enough games with curry and Thompson out they might take it easy on us and we might walk away with a win. maybe they'll think that playing us in the first round vs another team like the jazz would be a preferable option). the t'wolves are slipping and i'm hoping they keep slipping. only way we make the playoffs is if someone slips. besides the nuggets and spurs, the t'wolves are the weakest since they're without butler. well the clippers are kind of weak but they're scrappy. and the t'wolves were a 55+ win team with butler so they're underperforming now. the clippers are basically where we thought they'd be - a fringe team. that game against the pacers though. that's just me being a homer. they're the third seed in the east with 40-28 and if we're going to make the playoffs, we need to win games we're not supposed to - like the pacers. by the way, i'm not saying the t'wolves won't make the playoffs. they will. they're already at 40-29 and just need to win like 6 more games of their remaining 13 games to at worst be like an 8th seed.
so 14-1 sounds pretty crazy but not that crazy when taking the context of the predictions - long shot odds for the playoffs - into consideration.
I'll post my predictions sometime later. my break was over a long time ago
