Lamar?  Wasn't he a free agent and re-signed?

He's better than Russell no doubt.  He's much closer to his ceiling and his offense can be a tad streaky but the defense he'll provide is a breathe of fresh air.  We haven't had a perimeter defender like him in some time.

With KCP next to a guy like Lonzo, I expect him to score at not only a higher rate, but a much more efficient one as well.

If anyone has watched Pistons basketball or know how Reggie Jackson plays, the dude is probably the worst point guard you could possibly play alongside.  I'm certain KCP chose to sign with LA for one year partly due to the fact that he has such high confidence in his game and he'll know he'll place great numbers next season.

Cause realistically speaking, a guy his age, at this point in  career, rarely if ever, would take a 1 year deal.  It's a huge gamble for him and I hope it pays off for both parties.

He's by far better than Russell will ever be defensively

But offensively is another story. Id say Russell is probably already at the same level and may already exceed it this offseason

We need both on our side in these dark times.

and we need satan for the clippers and celtics games too

Yes, but we definitely need his defense more than Russell's offense (who had been streaky himself).

i wonder what his performance level would have to be for us to resign him

I think he has potential to break out and possibly even average 15ppg while playing very good defense

If that happens you can't let him walk right

If that happens you've gotta find another way to open space

Clarkson and nance come to mind.

Well ya. I think our defense has improved with KCP and Ingram

Caldwell-Pope will miss the first two games of the 2017-18 season. The NBA suspended him following a March arrest in which he was pulled over for driving 45 mph in a 25 mph zone in Auburn Hills, Michigan. He was cited for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Now.. why did his stock drop for us to get him and Detroit to not make him untouchable/offer him more? Because at the start of the season he was on pace to be hard to pry from Detroit. So why?

tenor.gif

Here's why.

it dropped because he had one of the worst drop offs from February through April that we've seen from a player in quite some time. It was likely due to a shoulder injury he suffered against the Warriors which kept him out for 4 games. After he came back he dropped off severely after a great start to the season. That is why his stock dropped.  But it dropped enough to make him obtainable for us.

Here was the progression throughout the season and I'm just gonna round up.

KCP
October 10/2/2 41% from the field 18% from three  (3 games)
November 16/3/3 42% from the field 40% from three  (17 games)
December 14/4/3 42% from the field 39% from three  (15 games)
January 14/3/3 40% from the field 40% from three  (8 games)
January is when the shoulder injury happened, in the 5 games he'd played in January before the injury he put up

18.6 PPG
4.0 REB
3.4 AST
1.8 STL
Field Goal 48.5%
Three Point 51.6%

And was on a 14 game stretch that saw him look the best he'd looked and on the verge.  That 14 game stretch he put up

15.9 PPG
3.4 REB
2.7 AST
1.4 STL
Field Goal 45.7%
Three Point 45.2%
But it was after that shoulder injury to the Warriors, it all came crashing down for his season.  As you see the last 3 games of January after the shoulder injury, his numbers dropped to this

12.3 PPG
2.7 REB
2.7 AST
2.0 STL
Field Goal 26.8%
Three Point 21.1%
That's pretty drastic you see?  It didn't get better as his months dropped off as the season continued.  Keep in mind his January and then watch.

January 14/3/3 40% from the field 40% from three  (8 games)
February 15.5/4/2.5 40% from the field 34% from three  (12 games)
March 13/3/2 38% from the field 31% from three  (17 games)
April 7/3/1.5 28% from the field 18% from three  (4 games)

Those are the reasons basketball-wise why his stock dropped.  So let's hope he's gonna be close to 100% this year for us and he gets his three point shot back right by the start of the season.

"Bryant had come to rage against the idea that Howard's clownish disposition could overtake the locker room, the Lakers' culture, and had warned Howard that he would never, ever let it happen."

Russell may be more skilled overall offensively, but movement and athlete-wise, KCP absolutely puts him to shame and makes Russell look like an old man or Andre Miller. Because of those severe limitations in Russell's package, I beg to argue that makes up a lot of ground for KCP and thus the overall offensive game in totality & comparison is a lot closer.

yo.

D'Angelo Russell 2016/17

26.3% - Less than 10ft - 117/228 (51.3%)

26.1% - Pull Ups (2p) - 87/226 (38.5%)

22.1% - Catch and Shoot (3p) - 71/191 (37.2%)

21.4% - Pull Ups (3p) - 61/185 (33.0%)

Kentavious Caldewell-Pope 2016/17

20.6% - Less than 10ft - 99/191 (51.8%)

27.4% - Pull Ups (2p) - 94/253 (37.2%)

30.3% - Catch and Shoot (3p) - 103/280 (36.8%)

16.0% - Pull Ups (3p) - 47/148 (31.8%)

D'Angelo and KCP had similar efficiency last season on their shots. The main difference between them is how they shoot. KCP's bread and butter is catch-and-shoot 3s, while D'Angelo is more balanced on how he found scoring. I think with Ball playing next to KCP, the frequency of those catch-and-shoots will be way up for KCP. If he goes to basket more and reduces the pull up 2s, his efficiency should go up as well.

Honestly, I really hope Magic and Pelinka begin working the phone to find a way to deal Clarkson, Nance, Randle, and Deng.  Whether it's all in one package or pairing them up in 2 separate deals, try and get it done.

I have a feeling KCP has a strong outting this year and will be a guy that we may want to committ money too.

Depends who they plan on signing.

They may want klay in 2019 who knows

Also if they love KCP and want cousins and George I actually think New Orleans would be willing to sign and trade

Don't you think New Orleans would rather put a few players around Davis than lose cousins for nothing

For example. I think New Orleans would make out like bandits nabbing Randle, clarkson, and nance for cousins. Then you stretch deng

Then I think you've cleared enough room
