I remember going to the Summer League game there the year the Lakers drafted Bynum.  Barely anyone was in attendance and the buzz which now surrounds SL is insane.

Moving it to Vegas was a great move by the NBA.

Yes it's just SL but, we showed unity and competence in our picks/youth... this is a step in the right direction.

Kuzma, Ball, Ingram all got me excited

It was really fun watching the guys progress from how poorly they looked early on to dominating at the end.

Ball was a very good version of what I expected from him. He has great floor vision and passing, but his own offense was inconsistent. He looks even better if you give him a mulligan for the first game.

Kuzma looked excellent. I'm looking forward to see how he does in regular games.

I would like to see Matt Thomas get the 2nd 2-way contract.

You can't really compare summer league to the regular NBA, but it's always good to see players look good given any kind of competition. It's a little more encouraging to see 2 rookies have the kind of impact that they did than players who have already played in summer league.

Great for the league, but not for me personally. I used to go all the time in the LBC. Practically lived there during summer time. I was devastated when they moved it, but of course I understand why obviously.

yo.

So ridiculous to have a ceremony for this.  Kind of hilarious actually.

Whatever, some kind of positive after the clutch of crap years for Laker fans is alright, I guess.  But please everyone, don't get all high on this - its completely meaningless.

The real positives from the Summer League are...
* We all found out Lonzo Ball seems to be the right choice
* Thomas Bryant was a pleasant surprise
* Kyle Kuzma is (so far) looking like a big time steal
* The Lakers may have stumbled on their backup PG in Caruso
* In the one game Ingram played, the kid looked impressive

I wouldn't say completely meaningless. Some chemistry is built as well as individual player development.

If Summer League is completely meaningless, then we don't know if Ball was the right choice or if Kuzma was a steal or if Caruso is a backup PG.

Anybody expecting any of this to directly happen in NBA games right away will be sorely disappointed, but it's nice seeing the Lakers' first 2 draft picks play like the best of their draft class as well as a few pleasant surprises that I think deserve a closer look in training camp or as 2-way contract signings.

Should player struggles be treated equally lightly? I'm wondering about that. I have to admit Zubac looked really bad out there at times. And, he's a 2nd year player.

Struggles for a second year player in Summer League should not be treated lightly.  It's concerning when a guy who has NBA experience and a stronger body from it comes out flat or shows little to no improvement.  That, to me, is an issue.

Problems for the first year guys, I don't freak out about it at all.  They're kids, learning how to play on a pro level.  There will be bumps in the road. The key is how do they handle those bumps and how long do they let them get the best of 'em.

I don't recall saying Summer League was meaningless.  I was referring to the "championship" thing pretty obviously.  Believe it or not, every post or every thread doesn't have to devolve into a debate.  Context of a statement matters, don't read something into what is being plainly said because you're in a mood to argue.  Thanks.

Agreed on everything but the backup PG. I think Caruso might be our 3rd or even 4th PG. I mean, I liked what he did in the SL, and he definetely earned that 2-way contract, buy that's as far my love goes. Magic and Rob should be looking for the actual backup, and apparently they are. Deron Williams would be a real nice adition.

I said "may have stumbled".  Who knows what he can do against actual seasoned pros.

We'll find out.

Nobody cares about the presentation itself. I'm not sure why it's even necessary to tell people not to get high off it, because they're clearly excited about the events that preceded it and the collective effort put forth by all our players. That's what we're high on. Context of all the statements in this thread matter, don't read so much into simple celebratory remarks. Thanks.

If Warriors, Kings, Spurs, Bulls were able to celebrate their SL victory, then surely Lakers have a right to celebrate their success with their fanbase. Not sure what is wrong with it, either. I haven't seen anyone handing out championship rings, or hanging banners for it. It is a tournament largely composed of rookies, sophomores, G-league players and NBA hopefuls. Considering the competition where some teams took it way more seriously than we did and fielded 4 NBA rotation players, it is worth celebrating when we were able to win the way we did with GREAT offense, and gritty performance. It was especially worth nothing how the team upped their performance from first two games, and the way they finished with extremely tough 3 games in a row.

More than any other thing, it was fun. You know, the thing we actually forgot ever since Kobe tore that Achilles. Past few years haven't been good to this fanbase. We deserve it. Magic deserves it. Luke deserves it. And Ball deserves it especially after the unfair criticism he's faced ever since the Game 1 - even now.
