I know he'll be gone next season, but still feels good to have a center again. The downside is that Zu will have limited minutes.

Threw up in my mouth a little. I went from begging the Lakers to take Josh Jackson for defensive purposes in the NBA Lottery / Draft thread, to now witnessing Brook mother [expletive]ing Lopez be our anchor on defense.

The last team Brook Lopez was the best player on won 20 games.

Our team as stands is Brook Lopez and a bunch of kids.

Added

Brook Lopez
Lonzo Ball
Kyle Kuzma
Josh Hart
Thomas Bryant
Guys on 1-year deals

Lost
D'Angelo Russell
Lou Williams
Nick Young
Timofey Mozgov

At this point even if we predict the internal improvement of the youngsters, as it stands right now our team is Brook Lopez and a bunch of babies(by NBA standards), and the only guys we're gonna get in free agency (partially by design) that are gonna accept a 1-year deal are gonna be

1) Washed up or near the end of their rope vets(like Chris Kaman, Carlos Boozer types)
2) NBA Fringe guys who are a little younger and looking to make a bigger contract the next season.(like Nick Young was).

As it stands our team isn't gonna win many more games than last season.  Which isn't good because the pick isn't ours, we'd be gift wrapping it for either Boston or Philly and I do NOT want to watch Ainge and that [expletive] eating grin while they think about landing Michael Porter or Deandre Ayton or Joel Embiid sitting there nodding his head like he just heard the Will Smith MIB 2 song, anticipating the first pick.

I think I might be sick if that happens.

Nah cause he can't rebound.

Play out the season and then get a C who can rebound and shoot.

Cmon man you don't draft in the top 5, let alone top 2 for defensive purposes. Almost anyone with an NBA body can be made a plus defender and how good of a team defender you are depends solely on your IQ and effort. Almost no one in the NBA can just decide to become an elite offensive player.

Also there's zero evidence that a one and done will be a good NBA defender after one year of college. Everyone thought Wiggins would be a great defender and is horrendous on that end. Jackson will likely never be that dude who can guard 1-5 because his wingspan is nothing to get excited about. It also takes several years to learn how to play defense in the NBA. A guy like Ingram has the potential to be fantastic on that end because of his physical gift.

Brook is also a pretty solid defender at the rim. He's garbage on the perimeter, but so is almost everyone on the current squad. You just gotta hope for improvement from everyone. The reason the Warriors are so good defensively is because they have 3 guys in KD, Dray and Iggy who can switch 1-5. There's not a single person talking about how slow and awful McGee and Zaza are because those guys hide their flaws. Both Klay and Steph are plus perimeter defenders and obviously Klay is less likely to get bullied by a bigger guy because of his size.

Defense almost always comes down to coaching and I simply don't see anyone on that coaching staff who is going to change our defensive culture. It seems like we're gonna keep trying to outscore teams until we get enough stars to join up and help take the pressure off the staff.

Give fans a few minutes. They'll turn on him

Praying for  1. Some Cohesion (Ill fitting parts with young bucks, new guys, and those playing for next contracts may muck things up all season) 2. Better Coaching, No More Tanking (Last season was more of the latter but not sure how much of the former we can count on. Walton with something to prove this season as much as any Laker player) 3. Rookie Watch (Hoping Lonzo outshines his daddy (ROTY??), and Kuzma finds minutes and makes a push for all rook 2nd team)

READY FOR SEASON!!!

I've warmed to the acquisition of Brook.  It was difficult to accept it simply due to what he lost, but there's no doubt he's a great fit offensively towards this team and will greatly benefit our spacing.  Still hope there's a few more moves this front office makes though.

like who?

How many C can shoot and rebound? O and let's not forget protecting the rim which is the most important thing a C can do.

His role will be completely different on this team. He won't be our #1 option offensively like he was in Brooklyn.

I actually think Brook will turn some heads.  While his rebounding numbers won't go up, I still see him as a productive player in terms of scoring the basketball.  As of right now, we need all the perimeter threats we can find to insert next to Lonzo.
