What's the plan in 2018 if we lose the pick?

It's a coin-flip at this point. 55% we keep it at 2nd worst, 45% at 3rd. We wont fall to 4th.

If we lose the 2017 pick, we also lose the 2019 pick, but get the 2018 pick (unprotected).

So what do we do?

Option 1: We try to win

The argument: All our young guys should improve next season (most do). We could probably add a 2nd tier player in free agency - such as Gallo, Jrue, Lowry etc.- and while Mozzy and Deng have sat out for a while, they can stil play. We might also be able to trade for a someone too and if PG13 really wants to be in LA, i think there is a chance that Ingram+Randle+filler perhaps could get it done.

The argument against: We could probably get a playoff spot if we tried, but regardless of what we do, we wont be anywhere close to actually contending and by giving away youth for a star it would be difficult to improve going forward.

Option 2: We tank again develop our rookies, preserve flexibilty.

The argument: We wont be contending anyway and a first round sweep is not going to be a better step towards winning a title, than getting a top pick - especially if that top pick is Luka Doncic or Deandre Ayton. We spend the season developing our goung guys and decide what to do with all of them. We preserve max flexibilty for 2018 where we can clear up close to 70M in cap space and possibly move the pick for a star as well. DLo/Randle/Ingram/Zubac hitting their 3rd/4th season should be looking pretty good by now.

The argument against: Enough is enough. We cant keep hoping the draft is going to save us and need to start building at some point.

Thoughts?

I don't want to think about losing the pick... we simply cant afford to lose this pick, in fact we need the 1st or 2nd desperately, sadly this is a direct result of the Jim and Mitch aftermath.

BTW the Lakers shouldn't trade Ingram unless they felt he will never be as good or better than PG13.

IMO Ingram and Zubac are keepers.

We're gonna have to hope that Pelinka is absolutely amazing as a rookie GM and is able to get rid of that Moz and/or Deng contract.

This in itself may win him Executive of the year.

Can anyone think of a reason to watch the team for remainder of season?

With Zu and ingram sidelined.

Praying for  1. Some Cohesion (Ill fitting parts with young bucks, new guys, and those playing for next contracts may muck things up all season) 2. Better Coaching, No More Tanking (Last season was more of the latter but not sure how much of the former we can count on. Walton with something to prove this season as much as any Laker player) 3. Rookie Watch (Hoping Lonzo outshines his daddy (ROTY??), and Kuzma finds minutes and makes a push for all rook 2nd team)

READY FOR SEASON!!!

Russell, JC, Randle, JR with extended minutes & duties? I enjoyed watching how Randle would handle Towns on defense

Not planning for a super negative as losing the pick would be. Also I'm not projecting any player until
We have the pick secure and then I'd get serious about line ups

Trades.

There was barely a reason to watch this season, but now with minimal games left, I truly don't know the point of paying attention to this garbage heap.

Wasted money on NBA TV again, As far as tanking, I'm not too sure how much tanking was going on for the first 50 games. I think it was the best we could do. The question is how do a group of young guys mentally just turn on a switch from tanking to All Star?  Losing the pick means nothing. We'll ride THE PROCESS all the way to a chip in 2025. Randle Russell and Clarkson will develop and we'll do exactly what the GSW did, what the Spurs did with Parker and Ginobilli and what Detroit did once.

They (front office) will have to do something bold to change the outlook if the picks are gone.

I believe change is coming regardless if the pick is kept or not, in fact landing the pick just provides Rob and Magic more options.
