It's a coin-flip at this point. 55% we keep it at 2nd worst, 45% at 3rd. We wont fall to 4th.
If we lose the 2017 pick, we also lose the 2019 pick, but get the 2018 pick (unprotected).
So what do we do?
Option 1: We try to win
The argument: All our young guys should improve next season (most do). We could probably add a 2nd tier player in free agency - such as Gallo, Jrue, Lowry etc.- and while Mozzy and Deng have sat out for a while, they can stil play. We might also be able to trade for a someone too and if PG13 really wants to be in LA, i think there is a chance that Ingram+Randle+filler perhaps could get it done.
The argument against: We could probably get a playoff spot if we tried, but regardless of what we do, we wont be anywhere close to actually contending and by giving away youth for a star it would be difficult to improve going forward.
Option 2: We
tank again develop our rookies, preserve flexibilty.
The argument: We wont be contending anyway and a first round sweep is not going to be a better step towards winning a title, than getting a top pick - especially if that top pick is Luka Doncic or Deandre Ayton. We spend the season developing our goung guys and decide what to do with all of them. We preserve max flexibilty for 2018 where we can clear up close to 70M in cap space and possibly move the pick for a star as well. DLo/Randle/Ingram/Zubac hitting their 3rd/4th season should be looking pretty good by now.
The argument against: Enough is enough. We cant keep hoping the draft is going to save us and need to start building at some point.
