Very hard fought game. I just wish we would defend three's a little better. Maybe with more experience we play a little more outside in. So many times during this game we'd get a lead and give up a three in response.

Julius Randle is the first Laker since Shaq in 2003 to have a 23-18-6 line or better.

ok what the hell was that. Russel hits back to back clutch 3s and we have young take a mid range shot.

Russell plays exactly how Van Exel played.  I was there for Nick's entire career at the Forum, saw every second of it.  They play remarkably similar.  I'm talking about some lofty life repeating itself thing, this is a basketball player comparison. Van Exel is a mirror of Russell.

1.2 steals per game with a 4/2 assist to turnover ratio - unimpressive for the supposed leader/future of a team.

I'm not saying the Lakers lost tonight because of Russell - but he is certainly not some great help.

He plays the exact same way Van Exel plays.  I was at the Forum for that guy's entire career.  Russell mirrors him almost exactly.

The 60/70 thing is a figurative statement, not literal.  Come on now, you know that.  My point is that offense doesn't trump defense in the short and long run.  1.2 steals per game - unimpressive for a smaller guard.  3/2 assist to turnover ratio - also extremely unimpressive.

I'm not referencing the 60/70 thing obviously. I'm referencing when you said we are better when he is on the bench. The statistics prove you wrong in that regard.

You made a claim that we were better when he was on the bench. In fact we are worse when he is on the bench.

Again, the Lakers are worse, defensively, with him on the court.

I just posted the link to the stats per 100 possessions from basketball-reference.

Here, I'll throw it on here again.

Lol No. van exels game was predicated on speed, quickness and penetration

In what way is that even remotely like Russell, the guys nickname was nick the quick

Again. It's a set of blinders that this is the 90s, which you've been saying for years now, and you immediately have to attach Russell as a part of those blinders to someone from that era so you say who was the point guard back then? Van exel, Russell is van exel

That's the logic nothing more nothing less

They could not be more different of players

Whatever you want to believe to try and stay positive is fine.  I'm just pointing out fact from someone who was there.

Decent shooters who couldn't care less about defense and had serious trouble acting as a leader for a team.  The comparison is there.  Whether you'd like to admit it or not isn't something I'm concerned about.

I have no affinity for the '90s.  I don't know why you think I do.  It was a terrible time for the Lakers, and I had the unfortunate timing of having season tickets then.  I look for comps for players, right now Russell and Van Exel are mirrors of each other.

How is that even a fact? You're better than that. Fact is provable. How is a player to player comparison provable to the level of being labeled fact

I think you're just hell bent on your rhetoric that you've created these inane comparisons to further your point and then pass them off as fact

A 6-5 methodical guard is somehow the same as a 6-1 guard who based his game around his quickness

Russell is 21 years old. in what world is he even supposed to be a leader? He just was able to legally drink. Kobe was considered a poor leader until he was 28 years old.

Again nobody said you had an affinity for the 90s. You're clearly not reading, I'm saying you're hell bent on making this group into the group from the 90s. And this vague comparison of decent shooter playing poor defense

Welcome to half the NBA lol. And yet you prove my point. Somehow this incredibly and I do mean incredibly vague comparison of a decent shooter who struggled defensively. Is somehow a mirror

It's only a mirror because you've made it into a mirror. Why is it that it's somehow a laker from a poor era. Why isn't he like any other player who fits the description you give?

Because the description is vague. Is it because, oh maybe it is! It's because van exel was the pg for the era of laker basketball you've been peddling this era to mirror
