Kings did not have their hands tied, Cousins was open to singing an extension with them and I believe he made that statement public. What the Kings did was pull the trigger prematurely. Divac even admitted that a few days ago he had received better offers and had he waited until a day or two prior to the deadline, I'm sure the offers would have only gotten better.
Vivek believed Buddy Hield is the next Stephen Curry, that was essentially their explanation to why the deal was made. I'm not a professional scout, but I'd bet my life savings that Hield won't even make a single All-Star appearance in his entire career. They had a Buddy Hield like player not to long ago named Jimmer Freddette.
