Tough break. This might make Boogie's hopes of getting that eighth seed even less likely now.

yo.

Very unfortunate because for once the Kings looked like they had a chance the scratch the playoffs.  Gay was playing quite well and is easily there most dependable shooter/scorer outside of Cousins.  What's worst for Gay is that he's on a contract year so now he'll likely have to opt-in.  I also know alot of teams were interested in trading for him at the deadline.

Whenever I see an achilles injury, all I think about is how Kobe still managed to get up, walk to the line, hit two-free throws, and walks off on his own accord.  99% of the other athletes whom suffer the injury can't even put weight on their foot.  Goes to show Kobe's heart and high pain threshold.

Can players be traded with such a serious injury? I'm talking rule-wise.

I think they can as long as they dont try to hide that he's injured.

In terms of Gay's salary i think he might still opt out and seek a new deal and i could see some teams wanting to gamble on him on a shorter deal. Wes Mattwes tore his Achilels and was signed by the Mavs on a 4yr deal afterwards.

You can trade anyone as long as the team getting that player is alright with it.

Thing is, no team is alright with getting a guy that is basically done for the season, or possibly their career.
