The ultimate pipe dream?

Probably something along the lines of signing Durant and LeBron in free agency and trading the 1st pick of the draft to the Pelicans for Anthony Davis  :P

"Bryant had come to rage against the idea that Howard's clownish disposition could overtake the locker room, the Lakers' culture, and had warned Howard that he would never, ever let it happen."

I wouldn't want cousins anywhere near this squad. He is simply a me guy who does nothing for his teammates. He'd be a disaster around the young guys. And nobody is giving the Lakers anything for Nick Young and his awful contract. It'd be cool to see Butler as a Laker. This is the summer they have to do something big.

Id pass on Cousins. You cant be desperate to be relevant to only have other issues by then. I dont see him as the guy who will make us a contender so why gamble for him?

Its important to have a sustainable growth and long term thinking. Keep youth and build on that unless there's a trade that makes absolute sense

I'd 100% gamble on Cousins if we can get KD but can't get Whiteside.

Durant would probably demand those moves anyways. Just like LeBron did with the Cavs.

And what makes you think that Durant is intrigued to play with cousins ?

the fact that he is by far the best C in the NBA! I'm pretty sure if someone asked him if he'd rather play with Russell and Randle or Cousins, he's choosing Cousins.

Even if he doesn't want to play with Cousins, the young guys will be shipped out either way. Cousins and Butler are probably the only stars we may be able to get our hands on in a trade. Although Butler is a bit of a stretch.

That's the move I think they are going to do if they get Durant. Make a move for Cousins. He will probably be begging to come here if Durant signs.

i wish it was really that easy to get butler is by a possible bench/sixth man in clarkson and an unproven yet able to get double doubles in Randle for Butler.. lottery pick, Russell and Randle for Butler is more likely tbh.

Kobe was the best SG in his era. Look how many stars flocked to play with him.

It's not about either playing with The young guys or with cousins. Neither may be intriguing to Durant Imo. But Im betting on the young guys in the long term than cousins. I'm not saying cousins isn't great. He's a dominant big man but the fact that he acts like a kid and wasn't able to lift the Kings speaks volume.

Doesn't make sense to me to trade for "names". Heck he might not re-sign with the lakers in 2018 or 2019.

If I'm Durant I wouldn't leave Russell for cousins or the young guys.
So there's that

when did we ever have a situation where guys could have came and played with Kobe? What stars were offered contracts to play with a prime Kobe and turned them down?

Melo is an example. Neither of us know what Durant feels about playing with cousins. We're all talking hypotheticals.

Boogie is the most talented C but he's far from being the most effective for any team trying to win.  Huge difference.  Hardwork beats talent when talent doesnt work hard.

Melo? Kobe was done at that point! That wasn't prime Kobe and not even close! Our roster had no talent.

Melo made the right decision based on Kobe's age, injuries, and decline.

You don't think people would have loved to play with 05-06 Kobe?

true but we've never seen him be a 2ND option and we wouldn't have many other legit options. Outside of Butler/Cousins, who could we trade for?

If we tell KD we are running with are young guys, he is walking out the door!
