This thread is meant to be positive and light-hearted.

We have around 23M on the books (including Young/Lou, excluding Clarkson).

Lou - 7M

Young - 5.44M

Russell - 5.3M

Randle - 3.27M

Nance - 1.2M

Brown - 0.87M

Draft Pick - #1 - 4.9M / #2 - 4.4M

If the cap is around 92m, that's around 68-69M in cap space before draft pick...around 63-64.5M after the pick.  If we can convince Clarkson to take the Qualifying Offer and get a big pay day NEXT year, we will have over 60M in cap space.

Now, if we can move either Lou or Young for a 2nd rounder or a future 1st rnd pick, we will have around 65-67M in cap space...

Let's assume we get a top 2 pick.  You choose which.

Let's assume we could 2-3 AllStar/Superstar players want to join up in LA.

Who would you want and and why?

Examples:

KD/LeBron/Whiteside or

LeBron/Drummond/Barnes

Have at it and have fun!!!!

63M is alot for what this free agency has to offer. However, this is my hopeful scenario

1) Durant.

The hottest ticket this summer would definitely lift the team day 1. Not only will the Lakers improve, he can lure players to come play in LA. Whether the Lakers with Durant will be a playoff team or a second round team depends on how the young guys improve over the summer + other free agents signings. Thats a lot to ask given that 3 potential starters are still young and entering their second year in their careers. But again, with around 33M left, Lakers can get Whiteside and probably Afflalo. A bench of Clarkson , one of Lou/Huertas , a back up 3 , Larry , Black/Bass or maybe even Bismack would be nice.

Obviously retaining the pick would be an asset as well.

2) Offer sheet to Barnes.

I have conflicting feeling about Barnes since he's a restricted FA. Only chance to get him is if the Lakers offered the max, and even then GSW might match. Not sure if he's worth it but at some point you have to upgrade and if it means overpaying someone, so be it. Barnes is of value and will cover a glaring weakness. + same as point 1.

3) Focus on core ( esp. if pick is retained)

If Lakers get to pick 1st or 2nd and if they miss out on Durant(Most likely) or Barnes, they should focus on the core and try to develop chemistry. Lakers will still enjoy ample cap space moving forward and might be in play for Westbrook in 2017 or Harden in 2018 or whomever is free agent that time.

All in all, as long as the Lakers improve and the young guys develop, Im a a happy camper.

To me it really depends on if the Lakers want to 1: trade all their young assets and win now, or 2: develop the young core and see how far it can get them in a few years.

Scenario 1: Win Now

1. Sign Kevin Durant, which if the cap is $92 mil would be around $30mil for the max

2. Sign Al Horford ($25 mil)

3. Trade draft pick + Clarkson and any other asset not named Russell or Randle for Jimmy Butler. ( I would trade Randle, but assuming Bulls would have little interest in him with Bobby Portis on their roster)

4. Trade Nick Young for 2nd round pick, or release him and stretch his contract (Not looking at the numbers, but may be necessary to acquire Butler's salary).

5. Keep Lou Williams (Good 6th man for this roster)

6. Sign Biyombo or Ezeli to man the C

Russell ($5.3)/Huertas ($ 0.85)

Butler ($16.4)/Lou ($7.0)

Durant ($30.0)/Brown ($0.8)

Randle ($3.27)/Nance ($1.2)

Horford ($25.0)/Black ($1.0)

= $90.82 mil. A few min contracts to fill out the roster, and we'd be set. Also could assume Nance gets traded to CHI in trade for Butler as well. Don't resign Black, and re-sign Bass as backup PF/C.

Scenario 2: Stay Young and Grow

1. Sign Harrison Barnes (assume GSW don't match)

2. Sign Hassan Whiteside

3. Draft Brandon Ingram

Let the core of Russell/Clarkson/Ingram/Barnes/Whiteside grow together, add bench pieces.

I'd obviously take any of the big FA signings from scenario 1, but I think realistically they only come here if moves have been made to make us a contender.

I think we can make a move to land both Cousins and Durant if we part ways with the pick and Russell/Randle. The question lies in how much of the cap is left, and if we sign a 3rd big name or opt to fill the rest of the roster with solid role players.

Ive said this Jerry Buss passed and Jimmy boy took over.

Everyone that is on this current LALs team will not be there by 2017-2018 season. Including players, ownership, front office personnel, coaches and trainers.

I stand by it now. That exact comment is in many, many past posts Ive made.

However if I was forced to keep one it would be Jordan Clarkson. Hes the only player we have that would even make the Spurs or Warriors roster. Were just not using him to his strong skill set.

Randle is decent, but nothing special. Carlos Boozer type player imho.

In regards to Russell.....jury is still out but he doesnt appear to have the franchise player tag in his ceiling. jmo though

I remember Boozer more as one of the best forwards in the league for a decade.

Not on his last legs as a Laker.

A solid career. And made a ton of money

Praying for  1. Some Cohesion (Ill fitting parts with young bucks, new guys, and those playing for next contracts may muck things up all season) 2. Better Coaching, No More Tanking (Last season was more of the latter but not sure how much of the former we can count on. Walton with something to prove this season as much as any Laker player) 3. Rookie Watch (Hoping Lonzo outshines his daddy (ROTY??), and Kuzma finds minutes and makes a push for all rook 2nd team)

READY FOR SEASON!!!

I agree that it seems like it may be time to trade the pick. Espciecially if landing an impact player via trade makes us more attractive to a FA.

We need to win the lottery.

Don't feed the trolls.

The entire Lakers organization from ownership to management to players (all of them) will be replaced in a year and a half?

Im still on a high from the firing of Scott, bravo!

My wish list:

-We keep the 1st or 2nd

-Trade Nick Young for a 2nd round pick(s)

-Trade Randle & Lou for WCS

-Hire Ollie or Luke

If these things occurred, it would be a good summer.

Lol im not trading Randle for WCS. There are many players that can do what WCS does. Not so many that have Randle's talent. The issue is whether Randle and Russell can coexist( not that there's any indication of issues) but It will take sometime to actually evaluate the players. GCMD has made some logical points about Randle but I think any evaluation that was under Byron's supervision is misleading.

Maybe a competent system will cover for the deficiencies in both players game + allow them to operate with not only one another but also the rest of the team.

I like the idea of signing Afflalo + Whiteside but it depends on the coach and his needs.

I dont to be heavily reliant on lineups but a

Russell/Clarkson/Huertas

Afflalo/Clarkson

Ingram/X

Randle/Larry

Whiteside/X

would be solid imo. Nothing near playoffs by any measure but a competent team that might be lurking around 10th-12th.

Star team scenario in short:

Top 2 pick, DLo and Randle for Cousins

Sign Durant and Conley

Cousins 17M

Nance 1.2M

KD 27.6M

Clarkson 10M?

Conley 27.6M

Lou Will 7M

Total on books 90.4

2nd rounder

Room MLE 3M

Vet minimums left to fill out roster

I think they try something like this but personally I don't like the look of this team and the depth would be complete ass.

I can't believe how much love Cousins is getting. I think Love may be easier to acclimate to a winning team.

From a pure talent stand point Cousins is much better than Love.

Not sure about much.

Love put up crazy numbers when on the type of teams Cousins has been on.

my comment had nothing to do with a pipe dream. Your scenario didn't evolve signing anyone! Secondly, I'm not trading for WCS. If we are gonna go with the young guys then just stick to the ones we already have.

no no. Not exactly. Remember I said this in 2013-14 season after Jerry passed. Randle was a rookie I believe. And now next season, I believe he will be all that's left. And when we have another 15-30 win season, bet your paycheck Jim Buss will be forced to resign or take a demotion.

So, a pipe dream:

Lakers get #1 pick, trade the pick (and Lou) to Chicago for Jimmy Butler.

Lakers trade Russell and Randle to Sacramento for Boogie Cousins.

Then sign Durant to a max.

Stretch Swaggy (2.2M/yr for 5 years).

Use remaining 18M to round out the roster. Match or sign-and-trade Clarkson and Black.
