Laker fam I've been PC my entire life and know little to nothing about Mac.

For reasons way to long to explain, I need a Mac laptop. I have time to get it to. Its not an emergency.

THE ONLY thing this mac will need to do is play music from a 3TD WD My Passport.

MY ONLY REQUIREMENT is I need 2 USB ports.

Play music and never freeze. Just play.

No editing. No additional programs like MS Office, etc.  I will never use it other than for playing music.

Can anyone suggest any good deals? My goal is to spend as little as possible.

The $1300-$2000 price tag at bestbuy shocked me.

I found this model online for $800. Will it do the job? And it does have 2 usb ports.

11-inch MacBook Air 1.6GHz Processor
128 GB Storage

  • 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor
  • Turbo Boost up to 2.7GHz
  • Intel HD Graphics 6000
  • 4GB memory
  • 128GB PCIe-based flash storage1

Yeah that will more than do the job. I tend to the find the keyboard/mouse set up on the 11" a little cramped but you'd get used to it.

If you're just using it to play music and it needs to be a Mac laptop, I'd get that 100%.

if it's literally just going to play music... I would just get one of those home entertainment desktops. much cheaper, can hook up to most modern TVs and surround sound systems with HMDI cables, and most are so low-key that they blend in perfectly with home entertainment systems.

^For reasons unspecified he said it needed to be a Mac Laptop in particular.

I was going to say to get a Mac Mini at first and just buy a cheap screen but forgot he said laptop.

Save some money by having someone you know with a student account buy it lol

And yea anything on the market will play music just fine these days. It should do the job and any other office related jobs.

You won't have fun trying to run photo/video software or any mid level games, but if you don't need it. You're good.

thanks peeps, its running fine and working well. I did figure out a mouse would still be beneficial for controlling. It has Bluetooth so Im buying the Apple Magic Mouse 2. I need to click, but rarely type. Someday I may buy the thunderbolt monitor to. but its not necessary atm. Its a fast lil guy thats for certain. Im already use to the OS. same thing basically. Command instead of Ctrl. I get it.
