Rather have Davis for less than half.

I would. Easily. He's among the best rim protectors in the league and Ed Davis really isn't all that good of a defender - he's fine, but hardly the quality defender needed next to Randle. I'm not a fan of his offense (not much to be a fan of) but at 10M/yr we'd be able to chase another FA in the 10-15M range, which could make us a pretty solid team next season.

I'd also rather keep Davis at 6-8 million per season hopefully.

Davis just isn't good enough to be the starting 5 on the Lakers. Plain and simple. He's not a rim protector and he's not even a true 5.

As the first big coming off the bench he'd be fantastic, though. My problem is that Tarik Black does much of what Davis does, but only cost about 800k/yr.
