There are actually mad rednecks that believe he hit the kid on purpose and want him arrested for vehicular manslaughter. I can't even contemplate how someone can think that. The guy that got hit was more concerned with walking out onto a track of speeding, out of control super heavy go carts and pointing a finger/yelling than he was with getting the hell out of harms way. I don't know much about racing, but I know the drivers hug the car in front of them to share draft space. A car and Tony Stewarts car whipped around the corner and bam. Guy was standing there. Drivers are not looking for a stupid person to be standing out in the track. They're looking for other big brightly colored cars as the speed by at 80-140 mph. And how could anyone brake on dirt. Just dumb fan base I suppose.

Sad and tragic.

But what the hell was he thinking?

Leaving the track ASAP is the very first thing a driver should do.

Folks who were there are saying that they heard Stewart speed up as he approached Ward.  Stay tuned, this could get really weird.

Wow.
I'm not a nascar fan, but this is pretty heavy stuff

Stewerr hit and caused another driver to crash.
The other driver was mad, jumped out of his car, and ran out in the path of cars of the next lap

Tony Stewerr hit and killed him.

Wow
I always thought it was crazy for these drivers to be on the track yelling and acting a fool with race cars going a slow 70mph.

Tragic
In suspect nascar will make some rule changes

I'm a huge NASCAR and Tony Stewart fan. I feel the same way now as I did when Kobe was accused of sexual assault. I'm reserving judgement for now and send my condolences and prayers to the Ward family. Very sad and tragic. Kid was only 20. It's going to be a tough road ahead for Tony and all parties involved. No one knows what the fallout will do to the Stewart-Haas Racing organization.

After watching it several times, Tony definitely blipped the throttle as he approached the kid. The question now is why. Did he intentionally do it to swing the tail out to hit Ward or did he do it to reduce lift oversteer resulting in the same effect? Only Tony knows at this point. The car is set up to swing the tail out. With a larger right rear tire on a banked corner, this could only end badly and it did. Under a caution flag, Tony should have just taken the low, inside line to avoid ANY altercation. As a professional who can react quickly in situations at speeds over 200mph, his decision to stay in the upper lane and his reaction at caution flag speeds will be questioned.

sadly this is a culture that NASCAR has created by showcasing the drivers raw emotions. You see it in highlights with drivers getting out of their cars to confront other drivers. Tony himself have done this just a few years ago and even went as far as taking his helmet off to throw at Matt Kenseth's car while on the track.

even without charges, there will be a huge civic lawsuit loss for Stewart. His sponsors may bail and the entire SHR organization will suffer as a result.

Not even the same situation. Slick dirt track, poorly lit, open wheeled vehicles compared to asphalt, super lit, in PIT LANE.... Tony is not to blame..

If the video doesn't 100% exonerate him, if it even remotely appears like he blipped the throttle to intimidate the guy, he's got trouble.

he prob. blipped his throttle to turn away from him. The driver in front of him in the blue car had to readjust because he was in his lane and Ward walked down  there was a car that was even HIGHER than both the blue car and Tony car that passed ward as he was walking down the bankment.   You can't break on a dime on dirt or turn. The track is slick. Tony was either gonna hit him head on or try to swerve, which he did. It's 100% the kid's fault. The initial accident that cause this is even questionable.

The more i look at it, the more i see how much of an IDIOT Ward was. He was in the middle of the track for crying out loud!

What is he doing getting on the track?!!?!? Why why why?!

Kind of hard to pin a lot of this on Stewart even if it was intentional. Why on earth....

Before watching the video, I thought it would be manslaughter, but it's obvious he intented to run over that man with his vehicle. He swerved into the other driver, that's clear cut murder if I ever seen it.
