how confident are you about this?

65% Lakers can get him for cheap, if they do build a contending team next season

Depends if Okafor is healthy and he's also 31 and seemed to be fading defensively BEFORE the injury..so idk about him after.  would rather role the dice with Kaman honestly.

If the top 3 happens, I hope the FO doesn't do this

Love would be a good pick up and help. Melo is and always has been a hasben.

This roster sounds dominant in 2k.  So basically we are going to add 2 redundant non defensive stars to one that already is offensively demanding and is defensively challenged and the starting C and PG will be Sacre and Marshall?  Young off the bench?  We blow all of our cap and future assets on that and then lose to a disciplined team....got it

Kaman, Love, Melo, Kobe, Marshall starting lineup lol.  Lakers are going to break a record in PPG given up

Agree with this...but i'd add a 3rd very realistic possibility is they make a move (or 2) that get us only halfway there and the following season make another move or 2 to get us most of the way there

Nash's contract is what makes this all very unrealistic. If there was a team that would swallow his contract without giving us anything back, then this all becomes a bit more plausible.

This offseason is either gonna be Mitch and Jim's best work yet, or it's gonna be shattered by a bad contract or a pick that doesn't work out for us.

Praying for  1. Some Cohesion (Ill fitting parts with young bucks, new guys, and those playing for next contracts may muck things up all season) 2. Better Coaching, No More Tanking (Last season was more of the latter but not sure how much of the former we can count on. Walton with something to prove this season as much as any Laker player) 3. Rookie Watch (Hoping Lonzo outshines his daddy (ROTY??), and Kuzma finds minutes and makes a push for all rook 2nd team)

READY FOR SEASON!!!

Trading our potential top pick for Love instead of straight out signing him next year is not smart.

BTW, lakers think big. 2 years ago, remember when reports said that we were targeting Chris Paul and Dwight Howard, and pretty much all of us said it was impossible? We almost pulled it off.

i wouldn't trade our draft pick.

Id draft and rebuild the traditional way so it will be a long term solution.

Even if we did acquire Love and Melo to pair with KB and Nash. And lets say we keep Pau for 10 mill/season....thats a little bit better that .500 ball. We would have the weakest defensive team of all time.

Most of these scenarios keep coming up because everyone is holding on to the Kobe era.  At some point the Lakers have to start adding young cheap pieces they can mold.  Established talent is expensive and have a shorter shelf life.  There is no shortcut back to the top.

It wasn't nearly as impossible when you look at what we had in the fold at the time.  Top 3 big in Pau, future picks, healthy Odom and Bynum in the mix.  The situations are totally different.  For one having Love and Melo on the same roster makes little sense.  At this point Melo is a stretch 4 because he isn't very creative off the dribble and can't defend on the perimeter.  On offense Love and Melo operate in the same spaces.  Now you want to add in Kobe who wants to post up more and get his as well.

Even still, no way it happens financially.  I know guys think players want to win at any cost but no star player is taking 5-6M per year paycut to put together a better roster.  It's just not happening.  This is Melo's last big contract as well, he isn't playing for 14M and Love isn't playing for 12M.

BTW, lakers think big. 2 years ago, remember when reports said that we were targeting Chris Paul and Dwight Howard, and pretty much all of us said it was impossible? We almost pulled it off.

Thibs, melo and love will not help this team become contenders even in the distant future. It is a rare to for the lakers to have a very high draft pick like this. Its been so long the lakers ever get a draft pick that could be higher than 8 and to throw it all away for a guy who most likely will sign with the lakers anyway shows the stupidy of the front office IF they decided to do it.   I do agree that this draft class is a bit over rated and over hyped but it is still a good draft class.  I hope the lakers dont think like John Ireland who thinks everybody is a bust for this draft class.

A big fat NO to this idea. If the Lakers make this move, we should look forward to them being terrible for the next 10 years.

That's really the biggest glaring weakness, but it's hard to really discuss something that is THIS unrealistic.

Now, getting one OR the other (Love or Melo) wouldn't surprise me, but even without those guys, we are still going to be a poor defensive team. It takes more than just a defensive player or two in order to construct a strong system. See Phoenix, with Raja Bell and Shawn Marion.

The Suns without Amare, (Kurt Thomas0 were not poor.

They weren't as good as Pistons and Spurs of that era, but they were solid defensively

I cant think of a team in history that was good defensively without a good defensive big.

I think some lakers fans on here think the Lakers will suck for the next 15 years even with this draft pick.  Thats why you see some of them jump over to the clippers bandwagon.

Good riddance lol. But anyways, the Lakers are due for a long drought by the basketball gods. The perfect storm of bad management, contracts, coaching, and luck is occurring. If we screw up these next two off seasons, be fully prepared for the drought to hit. All the fair weather fans will leave, but I'm a Laker at the truest.

As Kobe leaves, let's not be foolish enough not to appreciate this 20 years with 5 rings

That aint easy, ask Duncan, Dirk, garnett, Bron

We cant truly grow until 2016

but we'll be back in the playoffs this season imo
