It makes no sense that Whiteside would not meet with us but would with the Mavs. Look at the mavs roster. Their best player they have on contract is Matthews. Makes me almost think lakers aren't offering him max.

For him to have Dallas in the final running it has to be the state tax thing. I can see no other reason.

That's solid
I'm not joking at all
We have a bright future, regardless of who we sign
I'm really not dissapointed.
I said this earlier in the year that I'd be fine if all we signed were backups and a starting C.

Yep. Mavericks have already told him they are offering him a max deal.
Lakers are probably considering it, but won't make that promise.
Guess what? The Heat haven't promised him a max deal either. Maybe Lakers aren't so dumb.
Don't feed the trolls.

Source tells @MarcJSpearsESPN that Nic Batum will meet with Hornets and Mavs in Dallas and will talk to Knicks, Lakers, Wizards on phone.

He's still upset that the Lakers chose Wayne Ellington over him.

At least he was nice enough to return stateside, so the Lakers wouldn't have to pay for an international call.

Yea something doesn't add up here. You can't say he's looking to win now more because Mavs are miles away from that, especially in the west. Also can't say he's looking for low tax because he is talking with Portland who has just as high of a tax.

well the Heat can't offer him the max without losing other key players so they have a legit excuse.Yep. Mavericks have already told him they are offering him a max deal.

The Lakers need a C...any C lol. His defense alone Imo is worth his max.

I was wondering if maybe this could be the reason. Maybe he is still mad about not getting signed.

It sounds like I was joking, but Hassan seems to be the type to hold grudges. I honestly believe he's still salty that the Lakers passed on him with how frequent he's mentioned it to the media.

Not a big deal to me either. While Whiteside would have been a GREAT addition, there's no problem at all with signing other quality veterans such as Batum and Parsons and saving a bit of money for future free agencies.
Yes, the whole "saving for next year" has becoming a running theme for this franchise, and we seem to strikeout each year. However 2018 is when you want to have all your chips on the table and hopefully by then, Russell, Ingram, Randle, and Clarkson have become proven commodities that may entice a star.
It's clear that until the Lakers can prove that they have an established foundation of young talent will any free agents look our way.
2018 Free Agency Class
Chris Paul
Paul George
Demarcus Cousins
Paul Milsap
Greg Monroe
James Harden
Gordon Hayward
Rudy Gay
Derrick Favors

The heat haven't promised a max deal because that would essentially force them to underpay Dwayne Wade. Everyone knew heading into FA that the Heat weren't inclined to offer him the max.

Pretty shocking to see HW pass us like that.
At this point, I say we need to go hard after Batum and even Parsons. Batum is a keeper and because I'm not exactly a fan of Parson's, we could always flip him for something of value later on once we have him under contract.
I still pass on barnes and Ezeli though.
If it's about money for Whiteside it still doesn't make sense total sense though. The endorsements he could get in LA would be incredible
