Is this also relating to how because the US National Team won, now Mexico is eligible to also qualify for the World Cup?

^ Yes, in a way, but they have to play New Zealand first to make it, which of course Mexico is favorited by far, but the way they've been playing this year (downright embarrassing & pathetic), nothing's a guarantee.
The team's been playing like total crap basically all this year. It's been the complete opposite of the previous year with so many victories & triumphs, but even with the most recent coaching change, he didn't seem to bring about any major difference in style, at least not to the previous man in charge & especially no change in attitude. Style too laid back, but this new guy, known to many as very firey, passionate, & ultra competitive, if it can't be done with him nor with the players he decides to bring a long, then there really isn't much hope, except for maybe the future youth. I am eagerly optimistic about this news though.
& Chicharito better sit his ass down already. Enough is enough. He seems like a great guy, but on the field, he's been choking far too much and it's obvious to everyone at this point.

Not that I want to divert your thread too much, but even though soccer is Mexico's main sport, aren't they naturally mediocre in international play? Similar to other soccer countries like England and Spain (well before they actually won it all).
Or is it like international play is bragging rights and fans only care for their respective teams, kind of like how we're Laker fans but some might not at all care about Team US internationally.

^ Mexico tends to be at the top of their region if not dominant along with the U.S. and what's been happening this year is almost unseen. They've been losing & tying to historically much lesser teams such as Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama, Jamaica, etc.
Internationally yes, they've been about average, but respectable throughout most time, but the one thing they've always been able to typically count on is their dominance in their region and that's the main reason why so many people have been so surprised, upset, and or embarrassed. It's even harder to fathom after the kind of year they had just last year with a lot of the very same players. This year has been a mess from the coaches to the players. It's been hard to find an answer and they have yet to do so.
They really don't deserve to even have a chance as they do now to make it to Brazil, but by either some purely divine intervention or flat out luck, crazy circumstances have allowed them that chance, even before what happened on Friday with the U.S. giving them a helping hand.
