Remember this is right after the attacks on 9-11. Most people are not aware that a secret service guy dressed as an umpire the night President Bush threw out the first pitch during the 2001 WS at Yankee Stadium. Great story. I'm surprised that none of the newspaper guys ever picked up on the "stranger" in the umpire's uniform. Or maybe they were not allowed to report it then. Who knows. Cool story about Derek Jeter giving the POTUS some advice.

Agree with Real Deal. I guess I'll just go on what Scott Gutterson said," At that moment everybody there was there for baseball and to show the world that in spite of what can happen to us, we'll pull ourselves together and what is our life and our way of life will continue."
"United We Stand"
I need me one of those bulletproof Jacket. Bush Jr. did the 5 p's proper preparation prevents poor performance. He threw a good pitch got it to homebase. 9-11 I was in middle school when it happen watch it on one of these tv. Terrible Tragedy.

It is the best pitch thrown by a world leader... ever...
He should of too... he did OWN a baseball team at one point...
It was a great moment...
It was at a time when 90% plus of the people supported Bush... in that golden time between 9/11 and when he starting screwing up badly...
This event, took a high profile person (bush) and humanized him, at a time when little was certain.
(tangent... I would have never thought I would be nostalgic for the Child Bush... by almost all accounts, he was not a good president, he did nominate a couple good supreme court justices, and brought democracy to the middle east (which is not so easy the next president found out...) I remember being in South Florida, when the USA invaded Iraq, that the Cuban population LOVED bush, and they expected the USA to invade, liberate, and restore democracy in Cuba!!!! I told them to temper their expectations, because I thought Bush was invading Iraq as some part of a father-son pyshcoligical problems, about the son wanting to finnish what the father never could.)
But back on topic...
I never voted for Bush, but, I believe history will look back more favorably on him, then it did when he was in office...
Plus, Bush wins the BBQ test... that dude would throw a great BBQ, every kind of meat avalible, made every way, unlimited stuff for everyone!
Could you imagine an Obama BBQ? Yikes!!! Mrs. Obama would probably be passing out tofu hot dogs, coliflour and brocli...
John Kerry, Mitt Romney, John McCain all fail the BBQ test as well...
Bill Clinton gets a pass, because he would host his BBQ at the playboy mansion... (he is that kind of guy)
The worst parts of bush is, his passing of patriot act... Soft on Islamofascists... made americans look like idiot rednecks... and, being a TOTAL FISCAL SOCIALIST...
I had a saying... (from like 2007-2008 area, when the worst we thought of Obama was he was a Socialist...)
Bill Clinton brought in, MORAL Socialism to the USA
George W Bush brought FISCAL Socialism to the USA
And Obama has brought SOCIAL Socialism to the USA

lol only uninformed idiots will look back on him favorably. He was not only a terrible president...he was a terrible human.
George Bush was either indirectly or directly responsible for 9/11. I will never look back at the piece of [expletive] "favorably".
George W Bush brought an endless war to this country. He is an idiot
And everything I said goes for all our presidents that put money and resources over their country's people.

Dude....you guys always flip the F out. I just thought it was a cool moment in MLB/American history and that it was awesome a heavily armed secret service agent was a umpire in disguise. Everyone on the field and in the stadium knew because the POTUS was there, an elevated threat existed. But the game didnt have a empty seat and all the players lined up for the National Anthem and tribute to the 9/11 victims regardless. 40,000+ people told terrorism they were not afraid that day.
As a result of the September 11 attacks, the World Series began Saturday, October 27, 2001, the latest start date ever. But that's only 6 weeks after 9/11. So while this game was played there was still a pile of debri 100+ feet high at the WTC site.
There was still a search for human remains. There were people that didn't even know if their loved ones had died because they had no official confirmation. Death totals were still "estimated". DNA testing didn't even begin till late December/early January because all they had to test was articles of clothing found in the rubble. Flowers and cards that people from all over the world were sending were backed up so bad at the NYC Post office that hundreds of Military MPs from all over the USA and thousands of volunteers lined up to help...just so people that were grieving could receive care packages and know that people out there cared for their loss.
So the 1st pitch of this World Series by our President meant so much more than baseball. And the fact it was a perfect strike was taken by many as "a sign" things were going to get better. And they did. There are moments that are above political posturing. And this is one. If you cant accept that I feel bad for you.

Why would I accept this moment?
Its a fake moment. Bush was directly or indirectly responsible for the death of all those people. He values money and oil over his own people......the moment was a PR stunt.
The perfect strike was "a sign" that things are going to get better?.......lol yea totally
You are sounding like a Bush apologist.
