He wasn't amazing. In both of his Washington seasons, he averaged about 21 PPG on 42% shooting. Before that he was a 30ppg on 50%. That's the equivilant of Kobe going 17ppg on 38% shooting. Though Jordan wasn't working from the post as much, and given his age, it was probably expected. It goes both ways.
Um, yeah a forty year old playing in a league of people half his age. Couple that with the fact that every night someone who go extra hard against him because they grew up watching him. I would say the problem with your viewpoint is that a man who had no athletic ability left was still demonstrating his vast knowledge of the game by averaging over 20 ppg as a 40yo. Also, he was playing with bums and still got it done.
