97.1 FM The Fan in Columbus and Justin Hopkins of 247 Sports both are reporting that Jim Tressel has been spotted with UCLA Bruins' AD, Dan Guerrero. Tressel had already been rumored to be a candidate at Akron but he quickly dispelled those rumors stating that he would help Akron in their search for a head football coach.
Would the Vest head West? Would UCLA really offer a former B1G coach to come to the Pac-12? It seems highly unlikely that Tressel will be a candidate for any NCAA job. The penalty has yet to be official from the NCAA but Tressel is expected to have a potential show-cause penalty. If Tressel is hit with this penalty, any school that wants to hire Tressel would have to go before the NCAA and risk being hit with sanctions. On the flip side, if Tressel is not penalized by the NCAA with the show-cause penalty, he could be a very attractive candidate for the many head coaching openings. UCLA would be one of the more attractive jobs along with Texas A&M.
The NFL is also expected to have openings with Indianapolis, his current employer, one of them. One thing is almost certain, the Vest will be back in coaching somewhere.
