Aesop Rock, MF DOOM, Curren$y, GZA, Fashawn, Earl Sweatshirt, and even J. Cole are all sharper emcees than Nas at this point in his career. Just forget Illmatic, Stillmatic, It Was Written, forget ALL of that [expletive] and he looks pretty mediocre. There's a lot of music out there and a lot of indie rappers that have released stronger material than Nas' recent stuff. You just have to take the time and find them.

This is all just opinion of course.

Yeah, I do agree that Nas' recent stuff definitely isn't his strongest, no where near it, but I still believe that all things considered, Nas is still the best rapper around. He's not at his prime anymore, but he's still a hell of a lot better than the vast majority of rappers out there.

Aesop Rock is pretty hit or miss. I can't understand half the [expletive] he's saying. Not because it's all deep or whatever (it could be, I dunno), but because I literally can't understand anything beyond his slurring and voice. MF DOOM is nice also, but he hasn't put out anything that really stands out to me in the last 2-3 years. GZA is GZA, but he hasn't really put out anything in 2-3 years either. Fashawn is nice also, but as good as his rhymes are, I wouldn't put him up that high yet. I liked Boy Meets World, great album, but imo it wasn't as nice as Distant Relatives. Haven't listened to any Earl Sweatshirt and haven't listened to much J. Cole so I can't really judge either.

The only rappers that I really like as much as Nas are Blu and Lupe.

Yep. I liked Distant Relatives slightly better but both were mediocre compared to what Nas used to be.

The game is terrible right now, I'd rather be one of the best to ever do it than be the one of the best right now.

I voted yes because in general, mainstream music today cannot compare to anything done in the 90's, 80's, 70's, 60's and 50's. Nowadays, anyone can make music by just being on youtube. I'm not an expert at rap, but I know when I hear a very good rap song, and frankly, Lil Wayne just doesn't cut it. Even The Backstreet Boys and N'Sync as well as The Moffats would put Lil Wayne and the music today to shame. At least their songs have heart and meaning as opposed to listening to demented, Arkham Asylum lyrics of today's music genre.

Since we're talking about Nas in a Wayne topic

Nas kills this song and Wayne's pretty good too.

There's no way Curren$y, GZA, or Earl Ssweatshirt can be considered better than Nas even currently and you forgot Lupe who in my opinion at his best is the best lyricist since Nas, but anyway I think your over estimating Nas' lyrical decline bu this is just my opinion.

Signing with Jay isn't gonna help him get a release date.. just ask J. Cole.
