Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder, and Major League Soccer superstar, David Beckham is close to leaving the team to join Italian giants AC Milan in January for a second time, team officials said Thursday.

Team president Tim Leiweke told the BBC he was happy to let Beckham go so the aging but talented player could get as much playing time before the World Cup in 2010. Beckham is trying to secure a spot on the England national squad and sees the move to Milan as a necessary step to stay in shape and show case his talent.

"We want to get a deal done for him and for us," Leiweke said. "He's a class act, a great player and I'm proud of what he's doing with the national team. So we would be honored to do that again if it helps David because we want to make sure he fulfils that dream."

The financial terms of the proposed deal haven't been disclosed. Goal.com reported that the loan to Milan should be finalised in the next two weeks.

Beckham, 34, enjoyed a good season with the Galaxy and helped guide them into the playoffs for the first time in four years. Team officials want to secure the Beckham deal before the MLS final in November.

Here we go again!

F*** David Beckham. Who gives a $hit about soccer in the U.S. anyways... unless it's the World Cup, I don't watch it.

People calling him an idiot are just ignorant. Fabio Capello (manager of the English National side) told Beckham, he HAS to be playing for a top European side or else he has NO chance of making the England squad for the World Cup. Considering he is at an age where this is the LAST chance he has of ever winning somehting at an International Level with his country, I think it would make more sense for him to go out on a loan again so he has a chance to do this. He'll come back to the US after the 2010 WC...

I'm pretty sure you guys would do the same thing.

They'll catchup in the league eventually, and anyway, AC Milan are still 100 better than "Chicago Fire"
