If Lamar is so sure that he wants to be back with the Lakers, how come it take so long to make this official? We got like two more days until free agency is over. What's the hold up?

It's not "over" in two days, players can just officially start signing contracts then. But you're right. It would be nice if both the Candy Man and ShanWOW signed in the next few days so all three can be introduced at a press conference at the same time .. unless Ron-Ron would prefer his own. He's earned that much for the "sacrifice" he made.

The "hold up" is the 4th of July holiday and waiting for Portland to make a decision on their 9M in cap space. Now that the Blazers have moved on and the holiday is over Odom should sign by Wednesday.

I'm worried about Brown. His agent says they'll announce a deal within 24 hours or so but there's been no word of the Lakers talking contract wth him.

If you say that the Blazers have moved on, then I believe it. What about OKC?

As for ShanWOW, as much as we love him, he's dispensable and replaceable. Maybe Mitch has his eye on someone with similar skills who can get for the 1.3 veteran's minimum. So if Indiana is offering him 3 years, 9 mil, I'd take that if I were him. We'll just sign him when he's 27 if he develops.

This hold up is really starting to scare me. The word is they are far apart on negotiations right now and Portland may throw some big money at him. I'm not liking this [expletive]!!!

There's competing stories. Bucher saying Portland isn't interested. Articles from the Oregonian and CBS claiming they are. Articles from elsewhere saying they'll try to deal for Gerald Wallace. Given the high anxiety everyone assumes the Portland article is the right one and LA can lose Lamar. I think LO stays, he doesn't want to leave LA, it's the years that are the question. If he doesn't like the money one year. If LA responds to Portland's reported new interest the offer can go up and Odom signs for more years. So he waits for the latter scenario. All of this because of Banu freaking Turkoglu, unreal.

If Portland offers what they did to Hedo then Odom gets an offer above the ego line, 10M per. LO could be tempted by that, but the word is it's his strong preference to stay. Just have to wait it out. Portland trying to figure out what to do. LA scrambling to possibly S&T Ariza despite the BYC issues and get the MLE back, which gives them more leverage with Odom, etc. imo LA will go no higher than a baseline of 8 (the starting year of an offer, NOT the average) and prefer to keep the baseline in the 7 to 7.5 range for an average of ~8. Odom wants to start at 9 and average 10. Battle of wills. LA gains the the upper hand if they S&T Ariza or Portland doesn't offer Odom the Hedo deal or looks elsewhere. Odom only gains the upper hand if Portland does offer the Hedo deal. But the bottom line is Lamar wants to stay and both sides know that.

^thanks Sky-
I too have said since day 1 that Years are what LO wants. he IMO knows its his last lucrative contract and I have to believe being available every year has worn on him. Also LA is LA

Lakers, Odom Far Apart In Negotiations.

There has been no movement in negotiations between the Lakers and free-agent forward Lamar Odom.

Odom, who made $14.1 million last season, is asking for $10 million per year in a new contact. Los Angeles doesn't appear willing to grant his request, especially with their payroll increasing.

"There's really nothing to report," said a source.

If the Lakers don't re-sign Odom, there only spending tool is the biannual exception, an offer of a two-year contract starting at $1.99 million.

"I hope so," Kobe Bryant said of Odom returning. "He better be."

C'mon Mitch..
