TLN’s Postgame Report: Lakers vs. Thunder

This game tonight swayed back and forth for the Lakers about as much as the trees outside on a windy night in Los Angeles. The Lakers should have blown out this team easily at home, but they continue to struggle against the young teams in the NBA.

The Thunder are very athletic and get their hands on many boards and loose balls. The Thunder even had a second half lead, which they surrendered to the Lakers who built up a late fourth quarter lead.

However as the final two minutes came around, the game got real close as the Thunder offense came alive. In the end, the Lakers got the last laugh (despite a scare from Kobe’s injuries) as they held on for a 3 point victory.

The Lakers only shot 44% from outrebounded Oklahoma City. Every Laker starter hit double figures and Lamar hit it as well, which has been pretty rare for the Lakers this season.

This was a longer game than normal with 38 free throw attempts for the Lakers tonight.

Now, the bests of the day…

Top 3 Laker Performers -

1) Kobe for the fifth straight game is number one. 40 points on 14 of 26 shots.

2) Pau had 15 points, 11 boards, and 6 blocks. He continues his Bill Russell play.

3) Artest had 12 points, 7 boards, 5 assists, a nice steal and hit 2 threes.

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): Sasha did nothing again. 5 minutes, no points and a turnover.

Play of the Night: Nothing too exciting, maybe Brown’s steal and fast break.

What to Look for Next Game: Christmas Day is around the corner with LeBron and Shaq coming into town.

no love for fish??!! the guy hit big 3 after big 3. he had a great game!

    • http://lakersnation.com Aaron2416377

I think Mbenga was a spark off the Bench tonight.

  • gugy

Boy, I held my breath when Kobe went down because his knee.
    Thank god he is fine.

  • drive-for-16th

Ya, i was in a shock when he went down with his knee, and that fucking elbow by westbrook on Kobe really pissed me off. In the forth their were a few plays where Kobe got fouled and didn’t get the call, even the elbow was a offence foul to me.

  • http://LakersNation Marwan..

Lets hope nothing goes wrong from now til Christmas. I hope that Ron Ron can take down Lebron with ease. Oh by the way, players and coaches are now claiming that Lebron is getting superstar treatment from the refs. That is the first negative thing about Lebron that ESPN.com posted on their site. I guess people are onto him now. Oh by the way, did you know the game against the Suns, Lebron was whistled for his first foul in five games. Amare Stoudemire threw his hands up in the air after a non-called foul and he got a technical foul where as Lebron was jawing out with the referees and seemed like he was really angry and nothing happened to him. I guess the players and coaches were right. Lets hope though that the Staples refs dont give Lebron that treatment like they did to Wade a few years back.

    • LC09

dude wtf u expect??? hes bron..the same ish goes for kobe..they both guna get their superstar calls jus live wit it aint ish we can do

      • http://lakersnation.com Aaron2416377

        Relax……….. , Celtics fan.

        • LC09

who u callin a celtic fan??

      • Eidraq

i have to disagree with you here..there are multiple whistles that lebron gets that no one else, including kobe, can even get…and i wont complain about wade..just like kb, he earns his fouls…lebron seems to get every call even if he’s the one throwing off arms and bowling over 5 guys…it’s annoying but what can you do? through this, kb still proves to be the best

      • Kid Kaos 310

1st foul in 5 games, that says something LC09. Even Kobe had 5 fouls last game (some ticky tack). LBJ looks like he’s getting the Wade treatment from a few years back.

        • http://lakersnation.com Aaron2416377

Last night game they called pussy little fouls on Kobe.

          • LC09

eidraq that mite b true..but u saw the call kobe got vs da buccks lol thats jus gunna happen..if kobe winnin ships idc how many calls bron gettin

  • 09champs!

Scary trap game, but we got it done. Kobe, please dont scare us like that again man! Fish had a nice one too, he tied his season high with 15 pts.
And for STD, farmar played almost the double of minutes than sasha did, and was also scoreless; jordy has been taking some early shots in the shot clock and not running the triangle as he should. When his shot goes in, i have no problem with it, but when it doesnt, it kind of pisses me off. Good win though.

  • L.A

I don’t get why Sasha got STD of the game. He played 5 minutes and had 2 rebounds and 1 assist.
I would have given it to Farmar the guy played 10 minutes and was 0-2 in FGM-A. He didn’t deliver tonight.

Man was I scared when Kobe went down. Looking forward to christmas day!!

    • http://LakersNation Marwan..

Yeah, why bash Sasha? The dude played defense at least, although he fouled, he still played D and missed 1 shot. His only attempt. But come on, why have an STD? Every player plays their best and they shouldnt have to be labeled STD for giving their best whether they delivered or not.

      • Kid Kaos 310

Yeah, Sasha for defensive player of the year. Get a grip fellas, he get’s torched and crossed over countless times. Not hating, just stating the obvious.

  • kb24bestever

what you guys think of a adam morrison for nate robinson trade you know its morrison last year of his contract and nate its looking for a trade so what yall think?

    • Eidraq

nate is exciting..i personally like him, however, i do not think he’s a good fit for us..i dont think we can use him in our rotation

    • http://lakersnation.com Aaron2416377

I want us to get Varejao, a explosive scorer and rebounder. He is a triple double machine niggaz

      • http://LakersNation Marwan..

And I think you’re crazy. If you want a good PF, then go after someone else. I got no one in mind but Varejao is WAY overpaid for what hes worth. He is a role player that needs wide open looks to get shots off. Definitely not worth Lakers money. Nate is a good idea, he is the explosive guard we need, and hes pretty speedy. Get him Mitch, PLEASE!

        • http://lakersnation.com Aaron2416377

I was joking, Bosh would be a pleasure. and puthim or pau at enter or pf and bench Bynum Odom and Bynum off the bench

  • drive-for-16th

i think nate will be good for us get rid of morrison and farmar for Nate im down for it. It gives knicks what they need a expiring contract and a player in farmar who can play the style of basketball that he fits into, and nate can be our back up point guard and him and shannon can play together like farmar and shannon, and they are both explosive players. I say we do it.

    • http://LakersNation Marwan..

The Knicks stated that they dont want more or less of what Nate’s worth. Right now he is being paid $1 million or $2 million, and the Knicks said they wont accept any more or any less in contracts they get from trades for him. So Farmar will be a possible trade for him, Morrison though, no way, thats twice what Nate makes and they wont want that, expiring contract or not.

      • http://LakersNation Marwan..

My bad, he is being payed $4 million, so the closest would be Walton, Sasha or Morrison, but seing how Phil Jackson like Walton, he is out of the picture. The Lakers like Sasha’s D so he out too, so that leaves the offer, Morrison for Nate. Seeing how Morrison packs $1 million more than Nate, who knows, if Knicks want to pack on $1 million more, and an expiring contract we might have a chance.

  • drive-for-16th

Varejao = The biggest Flopper/Actor in the NBA.

    • http://LakersNation Marwan..

No offense here but it seems to me that the non-American, or better yet, foreign players, seem to flop the most. Varejao, Ginobli… you get the point. Im not saying that American players dont flop, Im saying foreign players do it more.

      • http://lakersnation.com Aaron2416377

        Also Dirk

  • drive-for-16th

THERE ARE SOO MANY RUMARS THAT NATE ROBINSON WANTS TO PLAY FOR THE CELTICS, IF THEY END UP WITH HIM, I WILL BE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO PISSED OFF AT MITCH, I THINK WE DON’T WANT TO SEE HIM IN A GREEN UNIFORM. I SAY WE SHOULD TRY TO MAKE HIM A LAKER, HE’LL BE WAAY BETTER THAN OUR ENTIRE BENCH. WAT SAY LAKER FANS????????

    • http://LakersNation Marwan..

Nah, thats one of the options. He wants to go to a contender, and yes that includes Lakers too. Thats if the Lakers make a move for him, and you heard Celtics because some claim that they are the team to beat and so they think he will go there cause of that status they have. but I say Lakers should make a move for him, he can bring in his energy and if he does come to Lakers, then we might have 2 players in the Dunk Contest, but forget that, I want him in that purple and gold now.

  • http://LakersNation Marwan..

Hey guys, isnt the finger Kobe fractured the same finger that he hurt in Pau’s first game at home as a Laker? Damn, 2 injuries to it and still playing like its nothing. Lets hope his knee is 100%, nothing wrong with it so he can use it on Christmas, hes gonna need it.

  • http://57.amklac laffs atu

don`t worry kobe just pretends hurt..CAMERA TIME …this is L.A. Once again how old is fisher 50-60?

    • http://LakersNation Marwan..

Ok, he lets say he is 50-60. Isnt this 50-60 year old the one that makes the big shots in games and has 4 rings (4 more than Lebron has)? Im sure you really hurt someone’s feelings by making fun of their age. You’re an idiot though, by making him seem older, you make his accomplishments greater than they are. HATER FAIL.

    • http://LakersNation Marwan..

How old is Shaq, 1000-2000, or is that a bit young for him?

  • LBJ>KB

LBJ is going to take Kobe to school. Shaw better get a standing O from the dumb Laker fans. Without Shaq they would only have one championship. GO CAVS!!!

    • http://LakersNation Marwan..

Ok, Lebron takes Kobe to school, then Kobe teaches Lebron. Hahaha, the winer goes to Kobe for advice on how to work with Shaq. Just shows how much the 2 fail with each other and “The Great One” goes to Kobe for help, and Kobe turned him down. Hahaha.

Could’ve/ Would’ve/ Should’ve. What happened, happened. Cant do nothing bout it now. By the way, we can do something about the future, and Shaq is not gonna help the Cavs win one. He used up all the oil in LA and once he got to Miami and got injured, all the oil in the tank was used up. Wanna go to Kobe and ask him how to refuel him Lebron?

      • short doggy dawg

I agree with LBJ. If Shaq was in his prime, Lebron would have at least five titles and MVP’s by now.

        • Eidraq

i dont…if shaq was in his prime, lbj wouldnt nearly get as many touches and stats would be much lower…neither would have mvps but i agree, they would have many titles..just like kb and shaq did for three years

          • LakersAllTheWay

Yeah but the thing is Lebron don’t care about touches. He loves to dish out assists even more than scoring.

        • Short Dog

It’s Lakers all day. Everyday. Lebron sucks and so do you. Kobe. Its the best so shut your little mouth. Get my name out your mouth too. I haven’t been here for a while. So all the imposters stay off my nuts already. Get a life or a women-something.
          Short Dog
          Lakers
          Kopbe MVP
Whats up to the real Laker Fans
          Back2back
          Peace

  • Terry

Btw, is it just me or is Artest barely even able to touch the rim let alone dunk? Kobe’s vertical decline is alarming too, but he has enough offensive game to adjust to it. When Stu said last night that Ron Ron should have dunked (instead of a layup attempt getting blocked away), I thought to myself, “Surely, you know, Stu… He can’t really do that anymore…”

  • 09champs!

im pretty sure ron has dunked a few times already this year, and kobe was also being very explosive last night.

  • Terry

Yeah, he has dunked, but they’re usually sliding over the front iron, hit the back iron, and go down. I guess Artest was never much of a high flyer (as I checked youtube for some Artest dunks — nothing too impressive). And he really doesn’t need much of that for this team (see either last night’s line or the Det line for his all-around contributions). Still, I was surpirsed to see such a lack of jumping ability now that I watch him every game. Almost reminds me of Foxy in 2000 (remember when he tried to bulk up a lot and was just terrible, then came back in 2001 20lb lighter and was great). Re KB, he can’t really do the show dunks anymore. But he’s so adept at knowing what he can do and what the defender is able to do that he is still unstoppable especially in mid-range and from the post. Whatever, just noting this… A little worried with the knee scare last night, I suppose. A lot of 30yr olds on this team and hoping that last year wasn’t the peak.

  • 09champs!

Well, a much better way to put it, ron is not a highflyer, and his post moves have been a little stiff, but like you said, we dont need a highflying ron artest. And yeah it was a hell of a scary moment last night watching kobe hold his knee in deep pain, but like gary vitti said, hes the toughest player in the world when it comes to injuries.

  • lakerman1

    Happy Holidays everyone

  • highflyer

i fkin wish d lakers murder lrbron n d cavs on friday… i hope kobe crosses lebron and goes and dunks on shaq. wat a poster. huhh i jus want dem to win
