Suns Lakers BasketballThe Lakers expanded their Western Conference lead Sunday night as they extended their winning streak and find themselves at 16-3 in the young NBA season.

The Lakers played great basketball Sunday night. They hustled for loose balls, hit the open jumpers, and moved the ball well all game long.

One key tonight was shooting from behind the arc. The Lakers hit 10 of 21 three pointers and really left some daggers in the Suns defense. Farmar, Artest, Kobe, Brown, and Fisher all contributed from downtown. Six Lakers hit double figures, including two off the bench.

The Suns really were never in this game after the first quarter ended. It was all Lakers as they pounded the ball in the paint, and nailed the outside jumpers. The Lakers also took care of the ball with only 11 turnovers. Most importantly, they played hard and forced some great turnovers leading to easy Laker buckets.

Now, the bests of the day…

Top 3 Laker Performers

1) Kobe had a very efficient game. He shot 9 of 16 for 27 points, 7 boards, 3 assists and only a single turnover.

2) Artest’s five steals tonight were huge! He also had 15 points and 5 assists.

3) Farmar played great off the bench with 11 points and 4 rebounds.

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): Lamar continues to struggle off the bench tonight. Not a field goal made and three turnovers.

Play of the Night: Kobe’s oop to Bynum.

What to Look for Next Game: Lakers welcome the Utah JazzWednesday night to battle the Jazz. Should be a fun game to watch.

  • Trem

Lamar had two field goals for 4 points… but yeah he doesn’t look like himself right now hopefully he can get back into a nice rhythm soon.

    • lilkobe24

yeahh but its annoying how he writes stuff and saying he has no field goal -_-

  • The man

as long as hes handeling those rebounds and assists and the lakers are blowing teams out….well be good by the time he gets his shot rythem and confidence back

    • The man

btw why is it called Smush of the day???If anyone can recall, and im not a fan of Smush and i was just as happy when they got rid of him, but if anyone remembers he was the reason Kobe was able to win the overtime game against phoniex in the playoffs…remember he stole the inbounds from MVP Steve Nash….if anything that column should be called Kwame of the day…..he didnt do jack but get us Pau Gasol…and Kwame sure doesnt deserve any credit for the Gasol trade

      • lilkobe24

NO that was only one game and they lost the series SO SMUSH OF THE DAY A BURN

        • The man

kwame was worse though….to the point on that fastbreak play in clutch time where kobe dunked on nash….he had kwame under the basket wide open but instead dunked on nash….because kwame might have dropped the ball

          • lilkobe24

            kwame >smushh :D

  • http://LakersNation Marwan

He doesnt need to put up 10+ points every game, as long as he gives us an edge on the boards, and can contribute to his teammates’ scoring then Im okay with it.

His defense is pretty good too, but when Lakers have blow out games then LO doesnt need to put up double digit points, though Farmar has stepped up now putting up double digit points the past 3 or 4 games. I guess he is trying to prove to Phil and Mitch that he deserves to stay.

  • NBAmazingKB24

Lets say LO averages 18 points a game. Sounds pretty doable? That means he will take that many shots. Which means it will take away other players opportunity to shoot. Like Gasol, Bynum, Fish, and Artest. Which will bring their scoring averge down. Now what are you ppl that are talking crap about LO’s scoring going to say?
Gasol not being Aggressive cus he isnt scoring
Bynum isnt playing as well as he used to cus he isnt scoring
Artest, we should have never traded him for Ariza? Cus his not putting Numbers up in the board?
What im trying to say is SCORING ISNT EVERYTHING!

  • ricky

Who cares if Lamar scores point or not. The important thing that Lamar has to continue doing well in is getting the rebounds, making the assists, and playing solid D off the bench. Points come and go, plus, he’s not needed to provide offense since we’ve been absolutely blowing teams away. Just keep up the other 3 aspects and everything should be easy. Thus far, Lamar is averaging about 8 points, 8 boards, and 5 dimes. Those are good numbers off the bench, especially the boards and dimes, those are the real keys to Lamar’s effectiveness, not so much scoring.

  • dub824

I just realized the lakers won both halves 54-44

    • daboss1848

      consistency is key

  • Salty

Glad some of the previous comments touched on this as I was about to, but Odom was far from being the STD. If you’re going to base it the box score line, at least see that he actually did make two field goals… which shouldn’t be the basis to judge him by this year with the squad we now have.

    • Salty

I should also note that he was part of that lineup that made that big third quarter push.

  • the ape

i agree. LO isn’t in there to be a point-maker but a rebounder and facilitator. just make the offense run better like what pau does with the first unit.

and like many here, i do hope ammo finds his shot

MT: I had your dad Chris on a podcast last season, and he told me a story about your freshman year in high school when he got a call from Proviso East High School asking him to come down to the Maywood, Ill. location…

Brown: Oh yeah, I was in gym class and I was on a break all alone. I went up and dunked with two hands, and I shattered the backboard. At first, I was scared because I thought they were going to make me pay for it because I know they’re expensive. But once everything settled down, I kind of realized what I did … actually, everybody else helped me realize what I did, and it was special. The rim didn’t come off, but the whole backboard was shattered, all of it. It was done.

  • SteveAveryisStupid

Steve Avery definitely saw a different game. Are you that stupid to say that Lamar had no field goal?? How bout the assist from Pau? Are you f*cking blind? Even if you didn’t watch the game (which you should admit) you can tell by the boxscore! You are the dumbest person i’ve ever known!

    • SteveAveryisStupid

Please don’t make him do any post game report. He should only write reports about his boyfriend, Sasha!

      • Rez

He better not be getting paid for writing that crap. Every time I read his entry, I feel like he never bothered to watch the whole game (or most of the game). He has very low basketball IQ (and often focuses on scoring more than other aspects of the game). Also, what does he mean “continue to struggle off the bench”. I don’t think LO ever struggled the past few games. Him getting ejected in the Miami game was one of the reasons why we fell behind late in 4th quarter.

        • finally

Agree, please step up the analysis or TLN needs a new writer.

    • Short Dog

I’m a Laker fan and a Raider fan. What do you have against the Raiders? As far as that stupid, huffing and retarded goes. It takes one to know one.
Keep Raiders out your mouth this is a Laker Nation site not the patriots site.

  • laker_girl85

I agree that it doesn’t matter that Lamar has to put up big numbers, but as of late i ALWAYS cringe when he gets the ball. He hasn’t made the best decisions and his shots are either air-balls or bricks and has any laker player EVER heard of a bouce-pass!?? Lamar especially, he almost always gets his passes intercepted leading to the turnover and easy lay-up for the other team.

I know I’m being critical but its only fair to really point out his flaws and not pretend like hes not hurting us out there with his offense.

    • Repeat LAKERS

Need to win by 40 points not to hurt the Lakers OFFENSE?
HE almost always gets his passes intercepted?
So are you trying to say he only passes 2-4 times per game since he averages 2.1 T.O. per game? Kobe with 2.7, Bynum with 2.0? Watch the game and stop pretending like you know the game.
Now tell me exactly how he is hurting us.

  • http://57.amklac kobe,bi-curious?

if my name is KOBE, i like men…you can tell because i`m such a phoney…..fern dag….your mom is young but tight thanks….

  • 242LakerFan

k,b-c just needs to be understood, people. Seriously.
He obviously has a long-standing, unrequited passion. This frustrates him to the point that he has lost the ability to function properly in society, causing him to act out by being a complete douche.
Unfortunately, the only cure for his condition is and ever will be unattainable since, as his screen-name indicates, he longs for Kobe’s affections.
So don’t hate him; pity the poor miserable creature.

    • Eidraq

haha..this “poor miserable creature” sounds like smush

still longing for kobe’s love and until he gets it, he’ll just bitch at greatness…

i think k,b-c needs to hug it out..wanna hug it out bitch?

  • finally

Avery finally does an analysis where he doesn’t use the phrase “did a little of everything”.

  • BringDFishBack

What is this crap? It’s 100% stats, do you even watch the games? Even when all you do is study the box score you still got the stats wrong. Kobe had 26 not 27, and Lamar made 2 FGs. The what to look for next game doesn’t even make sense. Do you spend 10 minutes trying to come up with a legible promo sentence for your stupid overpriced ticket and write the rest in all of like 2 minutes? Smush of the Day should go to you for this awful performance of writing quite possibly the easiest article.
