90040869NG015_ROCKTS_LALWhat a terrible weekend for me. Two Laker losses and USC getting embarrassed at home.

The Rockets just outplayed the Lakers tonight. They had more energy, made smarter plays, and simply made their shots when the Lakers missed open looks all night. And just when you thought it couldn’t get worse, Kobe left late in the fourth for the locker room.

I’m not worried since it is so early in the season, but you hate to lose at home… especially to the Rockets.

Aaron Brooks simply destroyed the Lakers. Fisher and Farmar got torched! The Lakers always have problems with those quick point guards.

It’s amazing how the Lakers lost when they forced 19 turnovers and only had 13. It is pretty simple… the Lakers need to work harder and shoot better.

Now, the bests of the day…

Top 3 Laker Performers

1) Bynum had 21, 11 and 5 blocks. He is becoming a force in the paint!

2) Artest had 22 points and 6 boards. Sold game all around.

3) Shannon Brown had 12, 3 and 3 off the bench. He continues to be the best guard on the team aside from Kobe.

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest):
Kobe had his poorest game of the season. 5 for 20 shooting.

Play of the Night: Nothing really too memorable.

What to Look for Next Game: A low scoring game with Detroit coming in town Tuesday.

Why bother typing all that? Just put Embarrassing or Pathetic. Done and done.

  • http://LakersNation Marwan

Man those fans call themselves ‘fans’? When Boston lost twice at home, did they get booed? When Cavs lost 2 straight to start the season, did they get booed? NO! So why should we boo our Laker team? Cheer them on and watch them improve is what I say. I know losing isn’t fun and I don’t like it, but something I do like is my Laker Team.

    • daboss1848

you get booed for effort , not for losing . . .

      • ilikebasketball

them booing at having crappy effort and no drive/energy is much better than when they win and yelling for tacos

  • http://LakersNation Marwan

    Good news on Pau.

Pjil Jackson reports that Pau has gone 5 days without any sores and has been working out with the team.

  • Robert

Kobe’s playing with a ‘not-so-trivial’ injury. It’s enough to take out his ‘shot’. The Lakers haven’t played ‘stellar’ all year long. They are trying to find their ‘new’ identity. It was mentioned that last year they ‘ran’ more (yes, when Ariza was on our team). This year, Ron-Ron provides a greater offense, but the team has slowed down from it’s run, in general. The game on Thursday against the Suns was prob. a bit tiring for the Lakers.
Anyway, they will find their ‘identity’, but it’s ok if it takes some time, because Pau isn’t back yet. They will find it, and things will shift in our direction.
One final thought: we still have a problem with small quick guards. We will always have that problem with this type of team. The Lakers can’t give it their all against one small guard this early in the season. They will have to save it for the playoffs (but, they prob. won’t be seeing the Rockets in the playoffs).

  • drive-for-16th

we have to boo them man, they need to know players like vujacic and farmar, the booing will never get to them cause they play a game , lose and go back to their mansions. its players like kobe that need to be reminded that the fans are booing because u shuld play ur heat out every game so the crowd dont boo u. they booed cause the lakers put no effort into the game wat so ever, if we lose fighting then no one will boo them but if u go down like a lil bitch then fuk it they need to be told. this is a laker franchise not no pussy ass franchise that never wins. no player or teams of the lakers have done wat this team has bin doin for a while now.

  • mr.laker19

Lets not forget the stinkers we had in the regular season in the shaq and kobe era, we had a few 50 win seasons that should of been 60+. We are built for the playoffs guys, plus we dont have our stabilizer Pau who is our second best player. That being said Kobe is looking worse than i have EVER seen him period. Period. Even the games where he scored big i felt like he looked unfocused, unprepared, and going through the motions. He has to get his head on straight or we could have seen the last of the Mamba and the beginning of earth worm jim. He deserved to get booed!

    • Muslim mamba

Excuse b4 these last 2 games Kobe was avg 32 pts on 50 percent shooting… Probably becuz he added the post game we don’t see the same old Kobe but don’t tell me he’s not going out there to help his team win y dont u blame the old Nd fat fisher or the no depth bench or the big bit** pau who has a little injury Kobe would play through u must not watch the laker gAmes to know if Kobe is focused or not

  • drive-for-16th

we need some tough guys some good players on this team after this contract ends vujacic will never get a contract from no one else. We need a better SG when kobe is down who the fuk do we have fuking VUJACIC. SHIT FUK HIM.

  • http://LakersNation Marwan

The reason Kobe is tired is because he is carrying the load of the offense. It runs through him everytime where as when Pau was playing, Kobe averaged less and didnt feel as tired, because the offense ran through both of them. For quick point guards, there is nothing we can do but match Brown with them, he is quick and has the energy for it too.

Pau we miss you man, please come back soon this cant continue.

Hey by the way, did this loss break our streak of going undefeated in the white uniform?

    • BynumRules

Kobe needs to learn to share the load. Bynum should be getting touches. Kobe isn’t tired because Artest is taking the best player on D. Kobe is trying to do too much on offense.

  • Robert

Lakers Nation – Kobe is playing with a strained groin. Does anyone know what that’s like? It hurts like hell, and it messes up your shot. That’s why Kobe isn’t playing like he usually does. He’s actually playing THROUGH an injury – everyone else (including LeBrick) would rest for this injury. So please know that the team goes as Kobe goes, and since he is injured, his usual drive isn’t driving the rest of the team. But yes — everyone else should step up, and they’re not (except for Drew and Ron-Ron).

  • mr.laker19

I understand he is carrying the load and he is injured, but he isnt playing with the same intensity. Im sure like me all of you have been watching kobe for forever, this is the same man who messed up 2 fingers on the same hand and still dominated. This is the same man who came off an ankle injury in the nba finals against the pacers and dominated. He did all of this with guts and passion. There is a reason that you dont see 6’6 centers, and thats what he is trying to be. I dont mind him in the post, but face up, attack the basket, set up teammates sometimes too. I personally like him best when he is kind of the playmaker in the triangle. I kno he cant do as much without Pau but cmon, he was missing open layups, bricking open mid range jumpers. I have seen kobe up and down before but never nothing like this

  • gugy

That’s was a very bad performance tonight.
I am still confident things will get in place.

Artest is meshing much better on the team. His offense is improving.
Bynum is going to be an All Star if stays healthy.
Kobe is off last two days, but he will be back.
    Brown is a force.
    Lamar is OK.
Pau is getting back very soon.

Farmar, Luke, Morrison and Sasha still a disappointment. I hope Mitch will create magic and trade these guys soon.

We will be OK, have confidence. We still 7-3 not so bad. Is better struggle now than in April.

    • http://LakersNation Marwan

I agree with what you said. Kobe will be back, Pau will be back, Bynum will be an Allstar, Artest is incredible too. The bench either step up completely or get out. I know I dont sound to kind but this isnt the first time they let us down and certainly wont be the last time either.

      • atomicpunk

great point. It seems some of our players are playing like wins are going to be given to us.Like teams are afraid to play us. I see little effort from some of our players like diving for loose balls.Making free throws for gods sake they’re “free”!
My biggest issue is with LO. He’s a veteran that ,I feel, needs to start leading by example.First off, quit complaining on EVERY call! Second try putting a “gameface” on once in awhile. The guy is either smiling, smirking etc.Third, have you ever noticed whenever he turns the ball over he usaully always points to someone else as to say “your fault”
We ARE the champions and Im confident we’ll be ok but we should be fighting harder and NOT laying down for some of these games

  • WatWudChickSay? (WWCS?)

The Lakers desperately need to get Pau back in the line-up.His presence will take some pressure off Kobe to produce points.

Pau is good for 15-20 points per night, which means Kobe only needs to score between 20-25, not the 30-35 he’s been forced to.

Also, as nice as Kobe newly-developed mid-range 10-15 foot post-up game (which is absolutely brilliant, by the way), that’s Pau’s spot. Allowing Kobe to move farther ot of the floor will spread the D.

Also, getting to move some of Andrew, Lamar, and Ron Ron’s minutes into the second units time will firm up that
second units time of the floor.

I suspect the way this season will play out is that the Lakers will come out of the All-Star break in the 2-3 seed position and then put the jets on to take the top spot and build momentum into the playoffs as Ron Ron figures out his place.

Be prepared some some lousy nights like this between now and mid-February.

And remember, it is never as easy as it looks in hindsight: there were some very touch-and-go moments and stretches last season.

  • WatWudChickHearnSay? (WWCHS?)

Don’t hit the panic button until early March.

    • http://LakersNation Marwan

Exactly. 10 games in and everyone seems to be panicking. Geez, remember we gave up home losses during the season last season and playoff home losses too, but what really got us back was the road wins during the season and during the playoffs.

Dont panic, wait for Pau to come back and then the temp picks up.

  • Trem

Seriously. every one thinks were gonna break that Bulls record or something. No one will people. We will have nights like these. We will probably have a worse record this season last. Bottom line is Pau huryy the hell up!

  • Poogus

No need to panic guys… we haven’t had Pau a single game and our win percentage is still 70%! Teams play well below that (at full strength too) and still win championships… Once Pau gets back we’ll be in great shape. And all you guys knocking Kobe, I’d like to see you (or any other NBA player for that matter) play through a groin injury. When he gets over that and Pau is in the mix, there won’t be anything to worry about.

    • http://LakersNation Marwan

I think that if we had Pau for this season, we couldve had a better record, most likely 10-0. Think about it. Pau wouldve shut down Dirk and he wouldnt have scored the way he did this season against us.

Against Nuggets he wouldve shut down KMART and NeNe.

Against Rockets he wouldve shut down Anderson because Pau is more nimble, he can also get around him more.

See, those 3 losses couldve been wins with Pau but its still a decent record 7-3 without him. People would go 4-6 without their star players, i.e. Celtics, early 2nd round exit, although they had Ray Ray and Pierce, KG was out.

We only have 1 star and the other is out and we are managing to stay alive.

  • 09champs!

you guys just have labels for sasha and jordan, cmon, they are trying to get their games back and i think that sash is getting his shooting touch back, he hit that 3 and got tapped on another one, and jordy has been dishing the ball great, i know they can do more, but lets be patient, its early and lets get this straight, we are not trading them any time soon, so why dont you just support them?

On the last two games: there are no excuses for the inconsistent play, we need pau back ASAP..

    • http://LakersNation Marwan

He is right. Treat the players with respect because they both are coming back from slumps.

Farmar lost his minutes to Brown and that cooled him down, so now he is getting back in rhythm, and I am loving the way he is dishing the ball out too, crazy!

Sasha is coming back from a poor shooting year and so far he hasnt disappointed me. He is shooting better than he was last year.

  • Randy’s Donuts

The reason the Lakers are losing is becuz of one man and one man only and that is Lamar “Candyman” Odom. When he plays good the Lakers win and when he plays like he did tonite the Lakers struggle and usually lose.

  • drive-for-16th

“sasha is comin back from a poor shooting year” dude not a game or 10 games a whole fuking year, thats not a good excuse, hes in the nba getting paid 5 million a year, and he took a whole year in the slump, wat does that even suppose to mean, and how much more time does he need, he already took a year off by sleeping through the season, are u sure thats the kinda player u want. here’s vujacic,
0.0 ppg in the finals he didnt even get 0.1ppg. im sorry did i mention 5 million he got paid. fuck him. dont even defend him. no body even wants to trade him no NBA team wants him, and u wanna give him a break. put the emotions to side, 5 million is wat ron artest is getting paid, hes not a good back up SG either, KOBE DESERVES BETTER THAN VUJACIC TO BACK HIM UP.

    • LAKESHOW420

Sasha is such a piece of shit, We are wasting 5 million a year on that clown who makes 1 for 7 shots.

  • drive-for-16th

“hes not a good back up SG either” REFERING TO THE BROKEN MACHINE

  • Jim

The Rockets must’ve watched the second half of that Nugget game, because they did exactly what Denver did defensively.

They trapped players when they caught the ball on the perimeter, and when none of the Lakers dove towards the basket, it was easy for the weakside defenders to anticipate and pick off the passes to teammates on the perimeter or in the post.

Phil needs to disect this on video and plan a way to attack this strategy because opposing teams are going to continue to use it as long as it proves to be effective.

Pau, we really need you back man, hope to see you against Detroit.

  • http://LakersNation Marwan

    Good New On Pau.

Phil Jackson has reported that Pau Gasol have not felt any soreness or pain in 5 days. He has been working out with the team too, and is still in rehab.

    • Laker Marc

I think he may play on Thursday.

Dump Sasha, Luke, Farmar and Morrison and lets get some real talent who actually can make their shots and provide a good spark off the bench. How are we paying Sasha that much money?

  • etreyy08

seriously our bench needs to improve. I agree with the whole vujacic thing; kobe does need a better back up and farmar isnt doing so great either; morrison (need i say anything). I love d-fish but i think its time we get a guy who could defend quick point guards (aka upgrade at the point). Lakers would be awesome if we had a great defensive two-guard like hinrich. I Know its still early but maybe some changes should be made midseason.

Pau needs to come back and kobe needs to rest that groin injury. Less is more and we don’t need this to be a nagging injury like it was tonight.

  • LA=Paperchampions

Is this the team that is supposed to repeat? PLEASE!!!! They have no heart and think they can coast their way to a championship. The Lakers will not make it out of the first round this year.

  • Short Dog

LA are the champions. It’s just a loss. I’m still 100% sure we will be champs again. It’s boring to play against the rockets and the nuggets. And these lame teams always bring there A game against us. I’m not worried at all. We will win when it counts.
    Laker Nation all dam day!

  • http://57.amklac kobe,bi-curious?

GA-SOFT will really make you guys tougher..plus at least two more loses as he tries to get back in the flow..

    • 242LakerFan

Dude, you need a reality check if you don’t think getting Pau back makes this team instantly better. Quit making silly remarks and stick to being bi-curious about Kobe.
      LWO:Stand UP!

  • drive-for-16th

  • drive-for-16th

Oh ya for those who think hes shooting better this year , hes 36% from the FG, his year last year in the slump he was 38% FG. fuking 2 points a game this year comparted to last year 5 ppg. He needs to go. backing kobe scoring fuking 2ppg, not fuking happening in here.

  • drive-for-16th

Chris paul is pissed of in new orleans, he should demand a trade and we should do it for farmar, vujacic and morrison. lol.

    • http://vinginor@aol.com onlyone laker fan in L.A.

Now that make sense. Mitch trade those guys now.
Throw in Luke if need be.
We need speed old man fish is slow ,also just start
Shannon he need to get the feel for starting

  • drive-for-16th

Iverson one year contract ended with the grizzlies today.

What do u guys think about him coming here and starting?

  • Justin M.

I blame Pau, pure and simple. He could of come back anytime this week and I am convinced that this “hamstring” injury is not a serious as Pau of the team claims. He is just sitting out to recover from his summer in Spain. Kobe played almost 3 years straight of hoops and barley missed a game let alone 5+ weeks. Pau, your a great player and all, but you are soft.

  • sureIAM

Straight-up, it’s time that Lakers start looking to upgarde their bench. We are all waiting patiently for Sasha and Farmar to come out of their “slump”, but it’s not happening. I mean, when do we realize that they are NOT coming out of their slump? When do we draw the line? They f*cked the game up for us last night by throwing up a whole bunch of jump-shots at the beginning of the fourth, and the Rockets capitalized off of each miss. Bynum only had 12 shots last night!! Farmar and (especially) Sasha need to get over themselves and just throw the ball into Drew when he’s the best option on the court. This also was the case in Denver, where they all started to desperately hoist up jump-shots and none of them were falling – thus they have the lowest-scoring half in Lakers’ history. Instead, they need to pound it into the paint, as they did against Phoenix. Do I need to remind everybody what happened in that game?

  • Poogus

I know this is random but does anybody else hate nba.com’s new layout? It sucks… I don’t want to have to search for the “LAL” at the top just to see when they’re playing, I want to see the freakin’ logo!

  • WatWudChickSay? (WWCS)

Yahoo! Sports has just reported that the Lakers have signed disgruntled Kansas City Chief Running Back Larry Johnson.
Mitch, that is a huge mistake. I don’t even think Larry plays basketball.
    What a mistake.

    • http://LakersNation Marwan

      He didnt sign him.

    • http://LakersNation Marwan

He signed with Bengals not Lakers.

  • drive-for-16th

“Two in a row means something,” said Jackson. “One game is really a bump in the road for this team and they feel it. Two is an embarrassment. Three we don’t even want to think about.
