TLN’s Postgame Report: Lakers vs. Clippers

90040594AB015_CLIPS_LAKRSThe Lakers opened up the new season much like they finished the end of last year, with a W. Each present Laker got their championship ring and everyone was full of smiles pregame.

Artest’s debut in Los Angeles was everything a Laker fan could want — he fit in well and did all the little things the Lakers need.

Four Lakers had double figures tonight as the Lakers beat the crosstown opponents 99 to 92. The Lakers only shot 41% from the field, but were much more aggresive as they got to the line and made 14 more shots from the stripe.

The Lakers did look sloppy offensively though with 16 turnovers and only 17 assists. It’s still early in the season so there is not much to worry about yet. One positive was the Lakers defense, contesting many shots all night (except when Camby was shooting) and creating 13 steals tonight.

Now, the bests of the day…

Top 3 Laker Performers -

1) Bynum had a beastly performance with 26 points and 13 boards tonight. He was active all night and was the difference in the game tonight. He did however, give up 16 boards to Kaman.

2) Lamar hit some big shots tonight. 16 points, 13 boards, 5 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks. He looked pretty good if you take away the first few minutes of the game with those terrible passes.

3) Kobe had 33 points, 8 boards, and 4 steals… the only thing I didn’t like about his game tonight was the poor shot selection.

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): D.J. Mbenga took some TERRIBLE shots. What was he thinking?

Play of the Night: Kobe had 2 amazing layups, one in each half — take your pick.

What to Look for Next Game: A high scoring game… Dallas comes to Staples Friday night and both teams usually run up the score.
