Bulls Lakers BasketballHe’s baaack!

After missing the first 11 games of the season, Pau Gasol made his season debut, leading the Lakers to an easy win over the Bulls.

Pau didn’t look as if he hadn’t missed a step from his injury. He set the tone early by coming out scoring 6 points within the first 4 minutes of play and played pretty flawless the rest of the game.

His effect in the lineup showed especially in our defense tonight. After having a rough stretch of games, the Lakers seem to finally be getting where their supposed to be on their rotations.

The Lakers played a nice all around team game tonight. With Kobe dominating in the scoring lately, it was nice to see six players in double figures; it makes a team very tough to beat when you have so many scoring options.

There really wasn’t anything to complain about tonight. The only one to really play poorly was Sasha, but that’s nothing out of the ordinary. Other than that, the team played great.

Congratulations to Kobe on another milestone as well; he’s now 2nd on the Lakers all-time scoring list passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Player of the Game: How could it not give it to Pau? He ended his night leading the team with a double-double, 24 points on 60% shooting, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, and a block.

Play of the Game: I gave it to Lamar’s pass to Gasol early in the 2nd quarter. It was such a pretty play and it got the crowd energized.

What’s Up Next: The Lakers have two days to rest before Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder roll into Staples on Sunday.

Great that Pau is back! I can’t wait for the team to finally get back in rhythm and show the rest of league the wrath of THE LAKERS! Double negative in the first sentence of the second paragraph though. Other than that, Great Article!

  • gugy

    I just have to say:

    WOW!

What a difference Pau makes in this team. Bulls are a good team and the Lakers dominate it.

I am a firm believer IF the Lakers stay healthy all the way, the only team that can beat the Lakers is the Lakers itself. We are that good.
I really cannot see any other team beating us in a series.
Let’s think positive and have a healthy season.

  • Trem

Definitely agree with gugy, We just need a full healthy season for everyone and we’ll take care of the rest!

  • the ape

and props to artest. like deng was never even there.

huge difference pau makes to this team. without him, they’re playoff quality. with him, they’re champs

    • WifelovesLuke

Tru Dat!!! Artest is taking away the other teams’ first option on the perimeter. Deng was not even an option last night. Welcome back Pau, but to me Artest was the story. Definately an upgrade!!

  • Jim

Man, when you can use Artest, a career 16 pts a game scorer, as the 4th option in your offense, that says something. And you’re right ape, he locked down Deng to the point where he was totally a non factor.

Welcome back Pau, what a difference having you back.

  • http://LakersNation Marwan

As much as I love Ariza’s offense, Artest’s defense provides something else. Usually Deng would explode for 20+ points a game but today, how much did he score? 6 points on 3-11 shooting. That is a huge plus for Lakers. His defense is outstanding, cant wait to see him use his defense against Lebron and see how he goes against someone of his caliber. Artest’s offense was great too.

Farmar is playing great, his speed and athleticism is amazing. I want to keep him, or see how he goes til the end of the season if he is playing at a high level consistently then I say keep him.

Problem today was the bench. Sasha was 0-3, Ammo was 1-2, Mbenga was 1-2, J Peezy was 0-1 but I want him to stay. I normally wouldnt be talking about trades but these guys are playing like this consistently and its annoying to watch, especially when the starters need rest.

Seriously, Mitch should find new players to take over for Vujacic and Ammo. They are getting paid $5 million each and that adds up to $10 million. With that $10 million we can sign a high caliber player that will add a spark to our bench, Monta Ellie preferably, and Jerry Stackhouse too. Those two will be great to the team.

Tbh Deng just didn’t have a good shooting day. Artest did play a factor, but if you look back at the shots he took, he was open for most of them – they just didn’t fall in.

Farmar still continues to show that he isn’t ready to lead this squad once D.Fish retires. He has his moments, but he still makes a lot of mistakes that our coaching staff isn’t going to tolerate.

Monta Ellis? Really? That guy is as immature as Stephen Jackson, and can’t play off the ball. He’s just going to be another case of Gary Payton – the younger version. He’s not smart enough of a player to grasp the triangle offense, especially at this time of the season.

      • WifelovesLuke

Alive, what game were you watching? Artest was on Deng like stink on doo doo!! Like a moth to a flame!! Like Michael Jackson to a lil’ boy!! Ok, that was out of line. But the dude is a beast on D.

        1-2-3 Ring!!

      • http://LakersNation Marwan

Hey WifeLovesLuke, just a general question, are you a boy or a girl? Im confused cause the name suggests that you are a girl but with what you wrote, it sounds like you are speaking as if you were a boy.

  • drive-for-16th

i agree with marwan, we need to get rid of vujacic and ammo and put that much money into good use. Our bench can be waay better its for the good of the team. Mitch probably can’t doi it because probably no team wants them and they cost sooooooooooooooooooooo much.

    • WifelovesLuke

Sasha and Morrison only get to play during garbage time and you’re calling for a trade? Come on, dude. Leave the business side of the game to Mitch. He’s done a pretty good job the past few seasons.

      1-2-3 Ring!!

BYNUM SAID HE TWISTED HIS ANKLE IN THE THIRD QUARTER AFTER PICKING UP HIS 4TH FOUL

    • 242LakerFan

Don’t sweat it. It’s not sprained or anything and they don’t even expect him to miss practice.

      • 626LAKERSFAN!

Bynum did sprain his ankle but doesnt know how sever it is. We will find out more this morning…

  • WatWudChickSay? (WWCS)

The Lakers have the best 9 man rotation in the NBA: Kobe, Pau, Derek, Ron, Andrew, Lamar, Shannon, Luke, and Josh.

If they stay healthy, there is no stopping this team. Denver and Portland will be tough in the playoffs, but they just can’t hang with the Lakers in a 7 game series.

Going back to back and beating the Celtics in the Finals will be a dream come true. I can hardly wait.

    • http://LakersNation Marwan

Finally someone adds Luke and Josh. People have to realise these 2 players are important to the team because Josh is a great shooter, developing his 3 too, and Luke is a great facilitator, knows where his teammates are and sets them up for easy baskets.

Thats the reason Mitch Kupchak signed him. Truly a genius.

Pau Gasol – Season High (hehe)

  • willmo

last night was an overall great team effort. Pau was amazing but I was impressed with Artest, Fish and Farmar as well. Farmar is riding a 2 game streak of playing solid, that needs to continue. Sasha and Morrison should be trade bait but no one will take em, not even the Knicks at this point. 10 million being wasted and you can see that Sasha is not happy, oh well scrub. Artest is the key man. he will be guarding Durant on sunday and the best players on every team, he’s already shut down Joe Johnson as well and did well against Melo until the idiotic refs go involved. As soon as he looks for this shot, he will average those 15-17 points a game.

  • LakerFanThinkinReal

Sasha is horrible 0-3, Fish is slowing on the D but was perfect shooting; c’mon man!!! let’s pick up Al and send Sasha back home!!

    • The Closer

Do you read news? Did you see what AI did to the Nuggets, Pistons, and the Grizzlies?

AI needs the ball in his hands all the time, and you want him to play within the Laker’s triangle? Please, the only triangle he’s going to play is the musical instrument.

  • juice

“Pau didn’t look as if he hadn’t missed a step from his injury.” Katie, don’t you mean Pau looked as if he hadn’t missed a step… with what you wrote it’s as if you were saying that he was messing up. You should check your grammar girl. And also, “Player of the Game: How could it not give it to Pau?” Shouldn’t it be more like “How could it not be GIVEN to Pau?” or “How could I not give it to Pau?” It’s a good read, but hard to get through with these 4th grade mistakes! Anyone editing these at all?

Hey during a game, when a Laker was called for a foul, early in the game, I saw Ron Artest yelling and he seemed really angry. I dont know what happened but I hope he isnt showing his former “brawl” self, and I hope he wasnt yelling at his teammates, cause they will look at him like the Magic look at Stan Van Gundy, an annoying ass that needs to shut up.

Hopefully Artest is a new person and he will cooperate the next 5 years.

  • laker fan in down ey

Ron Ron is always going to be ass .This is good behavior but he will have a melt down.
Hopefully not ,but you know a leoaperd dosent change colors or stripes.
Please Ron control your crazy self dude. 5 years they have for Wow. He s going to have a meltdown.

    • http://LakersNation Marwan

If he was the same Ron Ron, do you think he wouldve called the guy who threw the beer at him and apologize? He apologized, not the beer thrower, and he invited the beer thrower (it was actually diet coke) for breakfast next month and will hold a campaign with him to get rid of violence on the streets and discourage violence.

I hope Ron Ron doesnt have a meltdown, he has been ok ever since he left Indiana and hopefully he continues to do so.
