The Lakers won their second game of the short road trip, another game down to the wire that ended up with a win in overtime.
The Lakers played in my opinion a very poor first half. They took tons of jump shots and showed very little aggressiveness.
Usually we may have one or two players settling for jumpers, but tonight we saw Kobe taking fadeaways, Lamar and Powell shooting threes and fadeaways, Brown taking off balanced jumpers, and more. The only points in the paint were basically off offensive boards.
I’m not sure what Phil said during halftime but the Lakers play a lot smarter in the second half. It may not show as well in the box score, because Houston stepped up as well, but it was a much cleaner second half.
The Lakers backcourt combined for 41 points, all scored by Kobe. Three other Lakers hit double figures, despite shooting only 41% as a team.
After last nights turnover madness, it was great to see the team with only 9 turnovers.
It was also great to see Artest come through with another solid game including a HUGE three pointer to put the Lakers up three before Ariza answered back.
Now, the bests of the day…
Top 3 Laker Performers -
1) Kobe’s second 40 point game of the season was everything L.A. needed tonight. He also had 4 steals.
2) Bynum took care of business in the middle again with 17 points and 17 boards! 5 assists and 3 blocks too!
3) Artest had 15 points and hit 3 threes, including one huge three with 40 seconds remaining.
Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): Shannon Brown took some terrible shots and didn’t really help us much today.
Play of the Night: Artest’s final minute shooting and defense.
What to Look for Next Game: A high scoring game as Iverson comes to Los Angeles Friday night.
