The Lakers made a great late comeback to put the game in overtime, but it wasn’t enough Thursday night as the Heat made the final run.

Kobe Bryant did all you could ask for as he brought us back making incredible shot after incredible shot. He also should have won us the game, but the refs blew a big call late as Wade fouled Kobe in the closing seconds of the fourth.

Six Lakers hit double figures, shooting over 50% for the game and even higher in the second half.

The downside tonight, aside from the loss was the lack of ball movement. The Lakers only had 15 assists all night as they watched Kobe take over.

Wade didn’t particularly hurt the Lakers tonight even though he had 27 points and 14 assits. The Dagger came from Richardson who hit a guarded three to put Miami up two as he finished with 25 points.

Now, the bests of the day…

Top 3 Laker Performers

1) Kobe had 39 points and made countless shots late.

2) Artest had 10 points and 5 steals. He played solid all night, except for those two missed free-throws in the closing minutes in the fourth.

3) Lamar had 13 and 11 off the bench.

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): Pau didn’t do much all night.

Play of the Night: The oop to Brown.

What to Look for Next Game: The Lakers travel to Charlotte Friday night. Look for a Lakers W.

  • Matthew

good comeback by lakers in the 4th… obviously…. kobe should have gotten a call on that play in ot.. he clearly was fouled by wade… gasol needs to step it up… andd wow…. this game was so riggedd… not gonna lie.
do u guys agree with me on this?

    • Kobe “3peat” Jordan

Colin Cowherd said the same exact thing this morning; he thought this game was rigged.

  • 007

please stop letting steve avery write the post game reports. did he watch the game where kobe also LOST the game for us because of his HORRIBLE defense?

    • bc18

totally agree! he was leaving people 5 feet of open space every time! i know he helped us so much on offense, but that doesnt excuse him from not playing defense…i mean, you never see Lebron do that…

      • Anthony

Thanks for pointing this out guys. I missed the game due to being at school, but like to get a different take on what happened Also, I don’t think the people running this site pay much attention to the comments ripping Steve Avery because his poor game recaps continue.

  • Maartar loves Robert asshole

Damn Lakers lost a close game. Who do we need to trade or blame for this L guys?

  • acgod15

i know man these games feel so rigged, esp after that suns-spurs game on sunday when j rich missed that dunk. close one that lakers shoulda won. lakers needa start winning these games! ugh

  • Matthew

woops i meant kobe got fouled in late 4th…

  • Trem

Do refs seriously think Kobe would air ball a shot without getting fouled? especially late in the game… Anyways, the Lakers are just coasting right now and sometimes the Kobe magic in these game situations works and sometimes it doesn’t

  • alex

I’ll say this, the refs blew calls from both ends. Was it just me or were they ridiculously blind tonight??? Besides for that, if we had hit our free throws….

  • lakershow2010

lakers – bynum = better team

    • imfasterthanur

addition through subtraction. Without getting into too much detail, I somewhat agree.

      • TOUCHING_MYSELF

You know that Michael Thompson talked about a possible scenario that was interesting yesterday during the (THE EVIL 4 LETTERED NETWORK) pre-game show… it was that New Orleans may be shopping CP3 because how good Collison has been playing. And that the Hornets will probably want to look for a big to trade with and then he posed the question of whether or not there would be interest in getting CP3 for Bynum.

Even though I like the Lakers’ length with the 2 7 footers, but if there’s the possibility to get a CP3 I would lean towards subtracting a good 12 inches from the lineup wouldn’t you?

Michael Thompson ddi mention that it wasn’t a ongoing rumor or anything ( about the trade scenario ). But that the Hornets really is thinking about the possibility of shopping CP3 to get a big!

        That would be very interesting!

  • Al

Kobe also lost the game for them. When he plays one on five and only passes when he is in trouble, we always lose those games. Everyone is standing around waiting for Kobe to take a shot. They played much better without him and his huge ego takes away from the team play.

    • http://TheLakersNation Marwan..

Man do you really think the Lakers can win without Kobe? Sure a few games, but late in games they are boned without Kobe. He proved it against Grizzlies and against Heat (although we lost). Kobe is worth more to the team than you think, wipe your eyes, stop acting so blind.

      • Shizzweak!

No shit Kobe is worth more to the team, but guess what, doesn’t mean Kobe is perfect. He could have played better and not throw a bunch of stupid ass shots! Stop hugging his nuts man. Kobe fu.cks up too! many times and he saves them many times. He does have a Big ass ego selfish ballhogging Kanye West ego. Pass the ball to the open man. Haven’t he learn he can’t win one VS. 5???

      • Ruin818

I will say what no one else wants to admit.. Yes Kobe has hit many game winners this season BUT the games should have have been that close. Most people keep saying we need Kobe to close out games and that we cant win close games…. and I somewhat agree, I woulnt want anyone other than Kobe taking the last shot but i dotn thinks games would even be that close without him.. we can win many many games without Kobe … the rest of the team stops playing so hard for some reason (Kobe) and against the lesser teams which are like 95% of the league maybe if Kobe wasnt playing… The game wouldnt even be that close.. ie.. Utah, San antonio, Portland… you ever think about that???????? and I know the Boston game will be brought up as a game needing a last second shot.. but that was a legit played game without Kobe by the whole Lakers team.. so yea.. we lost by 1 to Boston who had all 3 of their stars.. but then also, we barely beat Memphis by 1 with Kobe… just something to think about!!

  • drive-for-16th

PAU GASOL IS OFFICIALY TOOOO SOFT, AND STOP FUKKING DENYING IT PEOPLE, HE IS SOFT.

    • lakerman1

I totally agree. Just watch his body languange when he is getting pushed aroud by smaller guys and constantly missing key freethrows. Not saying we can win without him but even PJ gets pissed when he sees Pau being knocked to the floor and somtimes he will go after the defensive rebound while other times he just stands and watches. Anyway i believe they can still win the Title because as Charles B stated if the Caveliers do not have Shaq in the Finals they will not be able to beat the Lakers. Even in his declining state Shaq still provides that physical presence as was evident when we last played them in Cleveland.

  • LGM10

KOBE did NOT lose this game u idiots. I do agree that his defense was horrible or better yet non-existent and contributed to richardson getting hot; he didn’t even put a hand up on guys.
    .
    ..
“Pau didn’t do much all night”
    .
That is a huge UNDERSTATEMENT Pau just got ABUSED by BEASLEY and once again was pushed around. This guy is seriously pathetic sometimes i’m tired of it. He says they need to be the aggressor and do this and do that and try harder yet he fails to put his words into action. It just kills me because the guy is so good and can literally dominate every bug guy he goes up against if he CHOOSES to (except dwight of course).
    .
    .
But all in all a TYPICAL laker 09-10 night: No effort, no hustle, no will to win, just coasting, and looking LAZY. Come on guys it was MIAMI we should have won this game. But seriously what can we expect? I’m resigned and convinced that we will not see this team play the ball they can and should until the playoffs. It’s going to be a long month and a half fellow laker fans…sit tight we’ve got a bunch of “meaningless” games remaining. O and we play the bobcats tomorrow, should be fun (I expect a loss)….

    • truth

You write better than Steve Avery. Can you do articles instead of him from now on?

      • LGM10

Thank u sir; i’d love to write postgame articles for the lakers…..

    • lakerman1

The missed Freethrows did not help either.

  • drive-for-16th

PAU GASOL COMES OUT AND SAYS “WE NEED TO BE AGGRESIVE, ” BLAH BLAH BLAH, IM TIRED TOO OF PAUS SHIT HE JUST TALKS SOO MUCH AND THEN ON THE COURT HE CHOKES AND GETS PUSHED AROUND, HE CAN BARELY GET REBOUNDS AND HE JUMPS LIKE 1 INCH OFF THE GROUND AND HES TOO SLOPPY.

    • Pac Div

Agree. Also he says he’s not getting enough touches, but yet he has a good looks and instead of shooting he throws a stupid pass.

  • Robert

Lakers are bored. Kobe had to play better individually than his buddy D.Wade, that’s all.
    .
I’m not convinced that the Lakers are trying to win home court against the Cavs, when the Finals come around. If they lose more games, then I predict they will coast to the playoffs (although, they DO need home court in the West as well – AND, just in case the Cavs don’t make it to Finals).

  • LAKESHOW420

no defensive intensity, pau is so soft and didnt do shit, everyone missed freethrows. If the lakers keep this attitude we will barely get through the west finals.

  • j.dizzle

LOL at the LA’s effort..Everyone knows they are a very lazy team that only tries hard most must win playoff games..Chuck & the whole TNT were punkinh them tonight, it was funny as hell. “The Lakers win on sheer talent, they feel they dont have to play hard every night” hahahaha Chuck is a gangster & speaking the truth. Who else thinks its hilarious that when everytime they lose the players come out with “We just gotta play with a sense of urgency”, “more intensity” etc etc..They’re basically saying that they’ll keep playing lazy until the playoffs start. i doubt they’ll catch Cle now since they play in the garbage eatsern conference..Just gotta make sure to get that #1 seed in the west from here on out

    • lakerman1

You are correct sir just a lot of BS Rhetoric and it does get tiring hearing the same old excuses when you can see they are not putting up the effort. I expect another close game against the BobCats tonight and a different intensity when they play Orlando Sunday. Oh well what can you do at least they offer hope.

  • LAKESHOW242424

LAKERS WERE NOT INSPIRED TONIGHT but did anybody see the OT????? miami shot like 20 free throws just in OT i dont think the lakers shot but two after the game was out of reach GAME WAS DEFINTELY RIGGED EVERYTIME THE LAKERS GET CLOSE TO TAKING OVER CLEVELAND THEY LOSE = CONSPIRACY

  • TeamMorrison

Its no conspiracy. It is just a lack of effort. Lakers were lazy and when kobe takes over everyone just starts sitting there, they take it easy and stop caring. We def need kobe, but the team needs to always be ready. They just give up once kobe takes over

  • berkyberks

since they won agains philly, and a blowout to indie I thought they had it, I mean they can already beat a low percentage team hands down. That is why I have the confidence and trust on this team that they can win 15-0 this month in somehow a loss could come only from orlando n spurs. But they fail and I already lost my confident on this team except from kobe.

  • KBloyalist

again n again n again! the bigs got beaten again by not so tall but old o’ neal and a rookie like beasley? wade has 14 assist kobe got 4? do you believe that? somebody had jack up kobes passes like farmar 3-10 fg?

  • busted

I think kobe should have guarded wade a lot more he’s to fast for ron!

    • CB4 or NOAH

wrong defensive assignment! kobe should be on d wade we know that from before! and wade is to fast for ron..he can’t guard wade n lebron even kobe a season ago…noticed?

      • hello world

wad was 9 – 21 with 6 turnovers. i think ron did an excellent job on him. its those free thows that killed us. wether or not the refs are to blame they had to many freethows.

  • CB4 or NOAH

what about Bosh for gasoft n Noah for bynum? Lakers 2010-11 I’m tired of soft labeling.

    • berkyberks

I like this to happen! look gasoft n babynum cares only for their touches. How are these two 7 footers don’t even get a block shot with a team that has no bigs? but kobe does 1 block! bosh could be a perfect fit to kobe and he is more tough than gasoft, and noah has a heart and hustle plus he don’t care of scoring he can be a perfect fit to kobe. co’z if everyone want’s to score nobody want’s to defend. KOBE/BOSH offense, ARTEST/NOAH defence.

  • dumbmitch

I promise to bring this line up next season!

    C-NOAH
    F-BOSH
    f-ARTEST
    sg-KOBE
    pg-????

  • Shizzweak!

They had a party in Miami. Drank too much the night before the game, got hung over and were too tired and lazy to play ball. Thats what happens in Miami. Paradise

    • berkyberks

let them have that party it’s not gonna be long. until regular season end. But honestly I am now doubtful on lakers having party on june!

  • Kobe8/24

REMOVE BYNUM FROM THE STARTING LINEUP AND PUT ODOM AND I BET YOU WE WILL NOT LOSE MORE THAN 5 GAMES DURING THE REST OF THE REGULAR SEASON.

PAU PLAYS BETTER WITH ODOM ANYWAY AND I’M SHOCKED THAT PHIL JACKSON HAS NOT REALISED THIS YET.

    • Shizzweak!

They shouldn’t even be LOSING MORE THAN 15 GAMES AT ALL WITH ANY LINE UP. except for the last 4 players on the bench lol fuck k. Perkins

  • El Matador

Damn Ron Artest has got 16 steals in the past 3 games, that’s insane! Ron definitely has been putting in some work to get his defense back to how it was a few years ago (although he’s a tad slower now, but what can you do?) Hopefully, the Lakers have been paying attention to Ron’s defensive efforts and they all put in more work as a whole on the defensive side. The Lakers have the potential to play great defense, we’ve all seen it happen before, although it would only happen in random spurts. Hopefully, they’ll put more focus on defense and get it together for the last several games of the season, that way they’ll be prepped for the playoffs. If they decide to start turning it up when the playoffs starts, they’ll fall short.

  • http://thelakersnation too much bandwagoners in la

i cant believe what im hearing from you bandwagoners. trade pau and bynum? blame mitch for the lack of passion from the team? sure… like that will fix the problem.
the thing is lakers are lazy, bringing someone in wont fix it.
dont blame ron either, you people dont know defense if it hit you in the face.
people get real. we have a great team and no on is going away. i wouldnt have it any other way

    • Kobe8/24

I don’t know about trading Pau and/or Bynum but the team is better with Odom starting. Just look at how the team played with Odom starting.

      • berkyberks

yah lakers are lazy now specially bynum and pau co’z they want more touches , than playing playing with kobe. they are tired of being a kobe shadows. I’ts time for a change KOBE or bynum/gasol pick your poison!

  • http://57.amklac REALITY

hey the kobe got his points, who gives a F if the team wins,,,,MVP,MVP,MVP…………keep shooting mamba

    • 242LakerFan

      And you just keep missing.
      …112…

      • KBloyalist

aren’t you jumping with your big fat ass when kobe hitting shot after shot to keep lakers on the game?

  • hello world

    130
    welcome back

    • 242LakerFan

Is it 130 already? I obviously missed some. Thanks.

      • hello world

yeah he went on a streak for a while but i helped out.

  • 242LakerFan

Phil needs to line all these guys up two hours before the game and just make them shoot free throws…again and again and again. If we made half the free throws we missed we walk out with a win in regulation, not a loss in OT. Weak.

    • Popcorn

Yeah, too many free throws missed. Some people here complain about calls and non calls against the Lakers but I say it again they need to just play because by now it is the routine. Heck sometimes a lot of the calls go the other way even in LA!. It is BS but there’s no way around that cause if you complain too much they won’t hesitate to call a TF. Unless your name is LeBron James ( Stern first born son); it’s incredible how different they ref Bron compared to Kobe or anybody. The Lakers have to focus on the details, the little things specially on the road and against .500 teams; put them away quick and for Petes’s sakes hit the MFUcking free-throws.

      • hello world

        Look at it this way.

The Lakers usually rely on talent and hardly any effort. When one guy hustles you expect everyone to hustle. Not exactly. When one of them goes ”off” the rest tend to sit around waiting for them to make a move.

They do not need another player to make them better. IMO either Jordan or Fisher need to pick up the assists and get more players involved. They need to feel that if they do not run the floor and hurry up, the offense will fall. I can see Lamar picking up in the assists, as long as he can be effecient and consistent in that category.

Yes, FREE THROWS would have been an enormous amount of help. The Heat took the same amount of free thows and still made 6 more. As much as I do not want to believe it, if there was a scam going on in the NBA we still have to at least try to stay out of as much foul trouble as possible.

If we want to watch Kobe and the Lakers party in L.A. this June these are the keys to success(IMO). Tell me what ya think please.

        – Green Flannel

        • CB4 or NOAH

it’s not about the ft. it’s the bigs that let us loose. two 7 footers vs. o’neal and beasley? no block shots? need for a change! a tandem of bosh and noah is better than gasoft n babynum.
          muscle n hustle.

          • hello world

lol ok. that is a mental factor. PAu and Bynum just need to go in there and take a hit. You can’t teach that. I was talking about stuff you COULD teach.

  • http://yahoo jaydubb415

fuck rapper ” wale ” this punk ass muthaf@!cka comes on espn first take sounding like a kobe hater talking all this oklahoma shit hey wale ” eat a dick ” you and that ugly ass martia lady gaga

  • http://yahoo jaydubb415

yea laker fan free throw did kill us but once again man i wish kobe wiould go grab paul by both arms and ” shake the shit out of him ” and tell him youre punk ass better play physical or im going 2 have ron ron whoop youre ass ,he get shoved and rough housed and his whole game get messed up

  • http://yahoo jaydubb415

    and again f@!ck ‘ wale ”

    • expo

      2 times!!!!

      • hello world

        pineapple express? lol though

  • CS

They play that sealed it for me was during OT when Farmar brought the ball up, Kobe was setting up on the right elbow telling farmar to slide to the right and set it up and instead farmar dribbled away from Kobe; right then I knew they were going to lose; then Odom launched (missed) the quick three and the game got away from them.

    • hello world

yeah i felt uneasy about that too its just that farmar isn’t ready to run the offense it late situations when kobe is in. kobe is there to tell you what to do and if i were him i’d listen.

  • atomicpunk

Ron has definitely picked up his defensive intensity.I would like him to be more vocal out on the court.Seems like he still afraid to cross that line. Hes become the “bizarro”Ron…hes too nice now IMO

  • xtro

24 should have just held on to the ball in the last few seconds of the 4th quarter, pass the ball, but no he had to shoot it with too much time left on the clock. he is good but sometimes can be a D-U-M-B. sometimes i wish he had played college ball so he would know the value of the clock.

  • http://vinginor@aol.com onlyone laker fan in L.A.

Pass the ball rebound the ball simple.
Hit free throws ,defend shoters at 3 point line with game on the line . a FRICKIN Jr high can do better than this

  • Kobe “3peat” Jordan

Where the hell was Gasol last night?! Bynum and LO were more productive than him, and shot a better percentage. No bueno Pau, no bueno

    • hello world

he didn’t score well but he did help in the rebounding category.

  • xtro

always struggle against a non-playoff team. laziness and complacency. not good.

  • Leo

What can I say. They had opportunities, but just didn’t take advantage of them to win the game. Can’t hate on Farmar too much…He had a steal and basket in OT. One of their guys got hot from 3, we missed a bunch of free throws…

    • Leo

Why do I have that picture on my reply?

  • willmo

Guys this was another game where missing free throws and playing horrible D can kill you on the road. There was a point where they missed 4-5 freebies at the line in the 4th when it matters. you can’t win that way on the road. Kobe tried in OT to get his teammates involved but he threw a ball through Andrew (Kwame Brown’s) hands and then Gasol as usual could not overtake a 2nd yr 6 foot 9 Small Forward. Tonight’s game was blamed on Gasol and Bynum and the bad free throws in the 4th. The only knock on Kobe was his horrifc D on Q-Rich.
I think the team is becoming content with the first seed in the west and counting on winning it this yr on the road if and when they play the Cavs. I am hoping that the Celts get healthy so they can knock off the Cavs, I want a rematch of the ’08 finals.

  • CB4 or NOAH

lebron n wade has more assist than kobe because they had a better team mates that can knock down 3’s. I saw a lot passes of kobe to fish n farmar n ron n brown but they only rarely made those free sight on the arc, but ron made more than the known shooters(farmar, fish).

    • hello world

Wait, wait. They have better teammates? The reason they get more assists is because they have to hold their players’hands then pass it to them so they can shoot. Kobe gives to Lamar, Pau, Ron, Bynum, etc. and they make their own plays. Please do not try to rip on Kobe just because you see the stats. Don’t be ESPN or David Alridge!

  • hello world

CB4 or Noah: just be happy with what you have. They hustle and play well because their team needs them to be the first option. Who is our first option? Kobe Lamar can be second option or first if kobe isn’t there (scoring wise) CB’s numbers wouldn’t be so high right next to options one and two and three. These guys have a luxury of talent. I know at least three guys will pick it up in the play-offs.
