The Lakers played some terrible basketball tonight as they got embarrassed in front of over 19,000 at the Staples Center Wednesday night on an ESPN telecast.

The Lakers really just didn’t have it tonight. There were many missed shots, many balls which they were late to and an overall lack of good shot selection from the players tonight. They took terrible shots and missed many easy ones inside the paint.

The Lakers really just weren’t in the game for the most part.

Several Lakers missed easy buckets and took many bad shots thoughout the night.

Now, the bests of the day…

Top 3 Laker Performers -

1) Bynum had another solid game with 15 points and 14 boards.

2) Lamar had 16 boards and 5 assists to go with his 9 points.

3) Brown continued his great play with 15 points on 6 of 10 shooting with 2 steals.

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): Fisher had 3 points on 1 of 3 shooting.

Play of the Night: The Lakers really didn’t have a spectacular play.

What to Look for Next Game: The Lakers take on Portland Friday night at the Rose Garden… it should be a close game.

Nice I didn’t know the Clippers play the Blazers at the Rose Garden on Friday just like the Lakers do on Friday at the Rose Garden. Is this the first time a team has to play back to back games on the same day lol

    • Kid Kaos 310

Good God Steve Avery, have someone proof your journalism before you post an article. Get it together man

    • Smush Walton

Yeah, yet another example of how the quality of this site has dropped since last year.

    • dave

what is it with the grammar police on this website? are u here to talk basketball or to nitpick about every little error in every post? what a bunch of fairies.

  • drive-for-16th

hahahaha. Ya back to back on the same day.

  • LC09

naw kobe was jackin up too many shot.. but lo sucked tonite he made stupid plays in da 4rth but thats lo..n bynum missed wayy too many chippies in da 4rth n thruout da game..where was ron??? jus a terrible loss for us damn it..but clipps didnt know how to miss tho damn… lets get em friday baby gotta win up there in da rose garden

    • Gino

seriously! it seemed like the lakers played more lethargically once they tied the game in the 4th. it seemed like they were saying “we got this, we got this” and it ended up they didn’t. totally agree with kobe jackin’ up too many shots. this was one of the worst games they’ve played. hopefully the lakers can snap out of it after watching film and checking out how awful they played.

    • mannra

LO was good tonight. He is not always a scoring threat, but during that stretch where the Lakers took the lead, he got every single contested rebound and challenged almost all Clippers shots. Just because he didn’t score and took some weird outside shots doesn’t mean he didn’t produce.

Bynum played well, but both he & Kobe missed way too many easy shots.

      • Smush Walton

Yeah, if only LO would have not taken all of those weird shots and missed all of those threes, those negatives would not have cancelled out all of his positives.

  • 09champs!

yeah man , doubleheader in portland on Friday :)
But in seriousness, every time we lose a game, im just going to not worry about it as I used to, and just wait for the next one. We were trying to reach the bulls record, but now that we probably wont get it, the important thing is to get all our guys healthy for the playoffs. Lets get a win in Portland on friday for the first time in a lot of years!

  • drive-for-16th

Dude that bulls team came to play Every fuking night man. People feared that team no one fears us but ppl actually play better against us.

  • Jim

Man, what a pathetic game, losing to the Clippers is like saying, ” I just got my butt kicked by Pee Wee Herman.”

This team is starting to play like the 2005-06 team, give Kobe the ball and get out of the way. This team has too much talent to get into that mindset. What happened to the Ron Artest who averaged 18 a game, or the Lamar that averaged 17. These guys need to step up and provide some offense. If we keep playing like this, Kobe’s gonna be half dead before the playoffs roll around.
What a demoralizing loss, that was a humiliating kick in the crotch.

    • KB24ForLife

      yahhhh my penis hurts :(

    • mannra

Last night, Kobe was taking the ball himself, especially when PJ brought him back in the 4th quarter. In the stretches we did well, he was distributing a little more.

I could never see Josh Powell again and not care though! When he came in for LO it was a death knoll.

  • Robert

ugh! Were they trying, and just didn’t play well? Or, were they not trying, and didn’t play well? I hope they were not trying, because if they were trying, then they’re gonna have a hard time against ‘real’ teams.
    .
I’m not quite sure what happened. Were we missing any pieces? Was it because Pau wasn’t there? It’s hard to keep making excuses.

  • lakeshow2010

this team is better without crynum, clogs up the paint like a lil biitch, no defense, and plays like an idiot

  • 09champs!

This just shows once again how valuable Pau is to our team. Sometimes we take him for granted, but boy do we miss him.

    • mannra

Amen man! We need that high efficient scorer with touch around the rim! Bynum looked like he was shooting a medicine ball.

  • the ape

yah. awful game. nothing went into the basket

but i’d again give std to sasha. we really have to get rid of this guy

    • 09champs!

he played like 3 mins, when he played extended time like in Sunday´s game, he was more of the old machine.

  • Smush Walton

Well Fisher definitely was the Smush of the game. Besides the 3 points on 1 for 3 shooting performance, he was absolutely TORCHED by Baron Davis. Fisher spent most of the game chasing Baron after Bazron blew past Derek like he was nailed to the floor. (Oh wait, we aren’t suppose to say anything bad about dear Fisher or we get a “don’t go there” from Anna. Sorry)

    • B Holland

      Smuck,

Anna never said to not say anything bad, just Stupid Posts like most of yours. Anna OWNED you little Walton Boy you. LOL

      • Smush Walton

        Anna owns you, you puss!
Go re-read her post (if you can read dumbass).

      • Smush Walton

“STUPID” would be levels above your mental abilities you Door Knob.

        • B Holland

Anna is a smart girl. Just because she schooled you don’t have a tantrum. Take it like a good little boy and do your homework.

          • Smush Walton

The only one that got any schooling is you Boytoy. Hopefully one day you might write an intelligent comment.

  • http://TheLakersNation Marwan..

No play of the night? WHAT? There were many, and I believe Mbenga’s ferocious block on Telfair should be the play of the day. He destroyed Telfair. Sadly they didnt show replays.

  • lkrz008

too many things went wrong; kobe’s finger from yet. gasol out, artest rusty, lamar, powell and dj “under the weather” and weird rotations from phil. o and fish getting burned by yet another pg. Im tired of excuses but a lot of teams wish to have our problems and still have a great record. I know fish steps up wen it matters but we really need to upgrade our pg position; farmar should get some starts and fish should come off the bench. But the bench is supposed to bring energy. ugh this is confusing.

hopefully we win on friday. The lakers need like a weeks rest; damn league and their back to backs….

    • lkrz008

      yesterday*

  • MARIOboy84

It’s alll Phil’s fault. Why take out lamar odom for powell in the fourth?? Why put KB in the game with 6 and half left in the game??? why not early??? Bad team effort + bad coaching day = UGLY AND EMBARRASING LOSE. (sorry if i wrote somethig wrong, i’m not from US hehehe)

    • 007

KB did EVERYTHING in the 3rd qtr. he was the reason we were so close in the beginning of the 4th. let’s face it, he’s human and needs some rest. Phil wanted to give him time to close the 4th but he was getting NO help when Phil finally put him back in. Plus, i hate to say it, but the refs were not too consistent on A COUPLE calls (i dont wanna blame the refs it really wasnt them AT ALL =) ) KB sure doesnt get ALOT of all-star calls like lebronze and d-whistle. i mean he definitely gets SOME, but not like those two.

also, powell had to come in the 4th cuz LO was doing ALOT for us as well. he was exerting ALOT of energy this game especially for his near trip-dub the NIGHT BEFORE. LO definitely needed rest also so he could help KB close out the 4th. sadly, a team FINALLY figured it out and guarded KB 5 on 1 in the last 5 minutes of the game and no one helped KB out on the offensive end.

oh well, we still have the best record in the league. no biggie. plus we didnt have pau (or Luke). and there were a few guys sick. on to portland…

      • 007

oh yeah, and it looked like KB’s finger was really bothering him last night as well. i know he had a strong 3rd but it looked like the finger was not helping in the 1st, 2nd, and 4th qtrs. i wonder how bad it is right now, especially after they were saying it should heal in about a month or so, but thats probably the timetable if he rested and sat out

        • http://TheLakersNation Marwan..

Its bothering him cause against Rockets, in the fourth, Battier hit Kobe’s finger. Phil said its bothering him.

      • Smush Walton

Kobe has been carrying the load for a long time now. Only numbskulls like B HOLLAND can expect him to win every game for us. Kobe finally reached his limit.

        • B Holland

Smuck is alittle sensitive. Sorry if I hurt your feelings but Anna pwned you. She just knows more basketball than you.

          • Smush Walton

            More SPUNK from B HollyAndDick

    • http://TheLakersNation Marwan..

Phil Jackson has 10 rings doing what he does. I wouldnt question his actions.

    • Smush Walton

I think one reason Phil took Lamar out at the start of the 4th was because Lamar had some big screwups at the end of the 3rd. The clumsy charge foul where Lamar had a brain fart and mindlessly bowled into the defender on a fast break when we were on a roll and could have cut it to 75-73 probably did not please Phil that much.

      • Smush Walton

Instead we ended the 3rd quarter down 6.

  • skiptomylou

I hate to say it, but we need a new PG. We should take a shot at Rafer. Fisher cannot guard anybody!

    • http://TheLakersNation Marwan..

The Nets waived Rafer Alston and traded for Chris Quinn from Heat. The Heat are now in play for Rafer and are going to sign him soon.

  • ilikebasketball

if you are going to give kobe the praise when he wins it for him you gotta also criticize him when he gets the team back into a winning position, then when the doubles come continues to shoot. instead at that point involving his teamates.

  • http://TheLakersNation Marwan..

Yall can disagree here, but I say Mbenga is someone we must keep. Hes a great shot blocker and can shoot the ball well for a 7 footer. Staples show him love and hes a great guy. Hes been through so much too. He and his had were in jail in Congo (unknown reason) til Mbenga escaped and his father was killed. If he had stayed, that wouldve been his fate too. All that hes been through. You have to feel something knowing that about him now.

    • Smush Walton

I think DJ is a decent end of the bench reserve. He’s not going to be in the first wave of players off the bench, but there are times where his hustle and shot blocking can be a plus,

  • Laker4 Life

When the Lakers play mediocre teams they don’t play defense and shoot well from the field. But when they play teams like Suns, Celtics, Mavericks, Magic they shoot better and play defense. Lakers need to get rid of Josh Powell and Sasha Vujacic because those guys don’t know how to play b ball.

  • Richard

how embarrassing. fakers should be ashamed to lose to the clips. lake show officially sucks right now. It’s time to make up for that loss by winning the rest of road trip.

    • AllthewayLA

they underestimated. nothing to be ashamed of. the clippers is a pretty good team. And the way they played, any team can beat them.

  • http://vinginor@aol.com onlyone laker fan in L.A.

I have been saying this for 2 years.
Sasha is horrible cant hit a open shot
Farmar makes bad decisions most of the time
Ammo is a waste dosent contribute
    Mo benga has no game
j Powell is a Dleague player
Luke is always hurt ,so wheres the bench players

    • http://TheLakersNation Marwan..

      Get this.
-Sasha played 3 minutes and took one shot. Which wasnt an open shot.
-Who doesnt make bad decisions, can any player go through a game without committing a turnover or missing a contested jumpshot.
-Ammo didnt contribute cause he wasnt in the game. The dude came back from a torn ACL, give him time, its a SERIOUS injury that can put careers away.
-Mbenga has no game yet he blocks the shots to the 5th row and the dude can shoot jumpers.
-Josh Powell is a D League player yet he plays for the world champs and Phil wants him.
-Luke isnt always hurt. He has never had serious injuries like some other injury prone players do (TMAC, Gilbert). He only had sprained ankles, bad backs etc…

I dont know what you are seeing. I say the bench is just fine. They just need energy then if they do what they are good at, they can shut you up.

  • http://rugby-live-online.com rugby live

Kobe was a little to aggressive in that 4th quarter and it made it easier for the Clippers to defend us. I think when everything is more balanced out and everyone is involved it’s much harder to defend the Lakers. Now if Kobe is on fire then he can be aggressive and carry the Lakers to victory but last night in the 4th he was cold.

  • Robert

We should sign Rafer Alston for the remainder of the season – then, if he fits in well, let the ‘expiring’ contracts go and hang on to him (i.e., ‘don’t’ get rid of anyone now – let them ‘earn’ their spot). We can keep Fish, just reduce his minutes (it would actually help him). Let him start, take him out first break, bring him back at the end of the game, or when we need ‘clutch’.
    .
2 years ago (before Pau), Phil said that we were ‘one great player’ away from a Championship. That player was Pau (of course). And Phil was right.
    .
I would add (now) that we are one PG away from ‘several championships’. If we tighten up that spot, then the Lakers will be ‘invincible’.

    • Smush Walton

      You are absolutely corect.

We have a GLARING point guard deficiency which MUST be addressed in the near future if we want to win “several more championships”.

  • drive-for-16th

yes i agree too, we need to do something about our point guard situation, rafer alson is a good option, i think we all saw him do relly good job after jameer nelson went down in orlando and he did really good even in the finals he played waay better than jameer nelson, jammers a better individual player but Rafer is a better team player, i think we should go for it, hes quick too to guard quick point guards.

  • AllthewayLA

They’re just not passing that ball. They’re best when they do.
Yup I’m really praying they get a reliable PG.

  • lilkobe24

wtf , bynum first? he was pathetic against kaman.. he didnt even play D

    • B Holland

Kaman shot 7-19 less than 40 percent. I call that pretty good D lilkobe.

      • lilkobe24

        not all about stats homeboi

        • B Holland

You have to admit he held him to a low shooting percentage homegirl.

          • lilkobe24

who defends the point? oh yeah center does

how many points they score in the paint? homeboi

          • B Holland

usually the guards defend the point. So you admit Bynum held Kaman to a low shooting percentage, Good Homegirl. Now remember Kaman takes Bynum out on the perimeter because he can hit that 15-20 ftr. Just alittle basketball 101 Sweetie. Hard to guard the paint when you are there.

          • Smush Walton

You have to admit you are a DICK HEAD B HollyAndDick.
From reaqding your anal comments its obvious you enjoy fondling yourself.

  • John B

Saw a mistake on this article..

On the “What to look for next game,” it says that the clippers will be facing the blazers on friday, but it’s actually the lakers who are facing them..

    • lilkobe24

your late, hes a co cuc theres a mistake on number one too

  • lakeshow2010

    fck bynum

    • BigSal

Since you are probably a woman I think Bynum would take you up on that offer. You would need a bag over your head.
