The Lakers opened the 2008 playoffs with a bang and a Pau! But before I get into the stats of the game, let me get this out. The Nuggets are awful! I don’t know how they stayed within 20 of us seeing how all they do is shoot jump shots and make poor defensive matchups. I guess putting K-Mart on Kobe worked because they only gave up 128?
The Lakers tonight shot 50% including 9 threes. The Lakers had 45 boards today, 33 assists to only 12 turnovers. The key for the Lakers was the interior passing as everyone (except Kobe) got involved. It seemed to me that while everyone was making great passes to each other, Kobe felt it was necessary to shoot contested fadeaway jumpers on his way to 9-26 shooting. When you have a PF on you, DRIVE TO THE BASKET!
In the end though, the Lakers won the game by 14 and we all know that is what counts. My favorite part of the game was Staples Center fans chanting D.U.I. when Carmelo went to the stripe.
Now, the bests of the night…
Top 3 Laker Performers -
1) I don’t even think that I need to say his name. 36 points on 14-20 FGs, 8-8 from the line, 16 boards, 8 assists, 3 blocks.
2) Lamar played amazing for the Lakers again. 8-14 shooting for 17 points. He also had 14 boards and 7 assists.
3) When Vlad got 2 quick fouls, Luke came in and played superb. 16 points on 6-8 FGs, to go with 4 boards and 5 assists. Good going Luke!
Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): Kobe because of his decision to take horrible shots and well, you all saw the game.
Play of the Game: I don’t remember the exact sequence. I think it was Fisher to Pau to Lamar with the fake shot pass to Pau for the stuff… it was early on in the game, I’m sure you all remember it.
What to Look for Next Game: Look for the Lakers to blow out the Nuggets.
