The Denver Nuggets: They have as much potential as Lamar Odom.
… theres a joke in there somewhere.
Marquee Matchups -
Point Guard – Derek Fisher and Jordan Farmar vs. Allen Iverson: Technically, Carter is their Point Guard, but as most of the league has found out at various points in time, Allen Iverson with the ball in his hands is not exactly a bad option… 40% of the time. Actually to be fair to Iverson his FG% has increased to 45% since being traded to Denver.
Shooting Guard – Kobe Bryant vs. Anthony Carter: Carter has just come off of a season in which he’s made or matched career-highs in every statistical category, and I do mean every. Kobe has just come off of a season that will probably net him an MVP award.
Small Forward – Vladimir Radmanovic vs. Carmelo Anthony: The one thing that has really impressed me about Anthony’s game is that his mid-range jump shot can be automatic at times, and there really isn’t much you can do to prevent him from getting that shot. Vladdy surprises us with an excellent defensive effort every third game or some. Hopefully, he either improves on that ratio or they let Sasha guard Melo for most of the game.
Power Forward – Lamar Odom vs. Kenyon Martin: I must confess that I never really saw K-Mart play when he was healthy but the K-Mart that I’ve seen recently doesn’t stand a chance against Lamar Odom. Good news for Turiaf, the guy is a terrible FT shooter.
Center – Paul Gasol vs. Marcus Camby: It is a mystery to me that a person who so often avoids contact and shoots from the outside can still average 13 rebounds, 3 offensive, as well as 3 blocks. The hope is that when Farmar or Kobe blow by their man to the rim that Camby will rotate over and Gasol will have a field day of easy lay-ups and dunks. If not, a lot will depend on Gasol hitting the 11ft+ jumper consistently.
JR Smith is the X-factor for the Nuggets, but you didn’t need me to tell you that.
One concern for the Nuggets is that, if they don’t get Nene back for the series, their front line gets really small, with only Steven Hunter to call upon at 7ft. After that, the tallest player they have is 6-8. because of this, Mbenga and even Chris Mihm might get some playing time.
