scrowlLet’s Go Lakers!

The Lakers hung on Sunday night to take a commanding 2-0 series lead to come another step closer to their first title in seven years!

Kobe led the way with 29, but several Lakers contributed to tonight’s big win.

The Lakers once again played superb defense for most of the game. They held Orlando to only 42% shooting for th game including 33% from behind the arc.

The Lakers forced 20 turnovers and did the little things to come on top tonight. While the Magic forwards were hot, the Laker guards were even hotter with 41 points from the backcourt!

Now, the bests of the day…

Top 3 Laker Performers

1) Lamar stepped up big time to make up for Bynum’s terrible performance. 19 points on 9 shots!

2) Kobe did what we needed again. 29 points on 22 shots. He did have 7 of our 12 turnovers though.

3) Pau was a beast again. 24 points and 10 boards. He made 10 of 11 freethrows too!

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): Bynum is a fouling machine! He had as many points as fouls :-(

Play of the Night: Kobe’s dunk on the break.

What to Look for Next Game: A higher scoring game with less fouls.

Ticket Info: Game 6 tickets are on sale with full refunds. Might this be the closeout game? Email for info. on how to lock these tickets up today!

Go Lakers!

  • Eternal

We really needed Odom to step up for us. Bynum was terrible.

  • Stephen

Man, that was close i definitely had a big sigh of relief when it was over. Lets go Lakers finish this thing off on the road! we need to play desperation basketball because Orlando is a hell of a team and they’re not gonna go down easily. im ready for a parade!!! TLN cross off the 3 at the top!

  • kevin 0

    woow watta game!
shiyte very close game the magic really wanted to win
that game, at the end of the game i was like “damn did we really win is it over?” 4 real i would give courtney lee creedit for that beautiful missed layup i almost puked

  • koberei24

bad game for our team but still we won.. Vujabrick did it again ship him in the offseason for lou williams,,,

  • deus_ex

Cross out the “3” we now only need two more games bro.

  • barcalakerfan4life

when is sasha vujabrick gonna make a shot?

  • 1-2-3 Lakes

Some of the calls on Bynum were rubbish. Howard is a protected species

  • ATLakers

good call putting Odom as the #1 top performer. Mamba wasn’t himself for most of the 4th and OT, but he got it done when it mattered (mostly thanks to Courtney Lee missing TWO LAYUPS)

but i want to ask that you put SVG in the top Lakers for tonight … whoever draws up the last play for your rookie is just asking to lose.

  • Imadogg

    Odom 1
    Pau 2
    Kobe 3

Kobe played well enough shooting-wise… but he wasn’t there at the end, and he had SEVEN TOs, a big change from the near perfect game 1…

Very boring game to begin with, then it got real intense at the end when I saw Lee catch that oop aahhhhhhhhh.

We got the win though, looking forward to game 3.

  • Ila24

Gasol did a great defense again with howard, like game 1, altough bynum got the glory even if he only played 20m, way better than LO defense on Lewis, he scored 24, lead team with 10 rebounds, and whats most important, he made 7p of the 13p lakers made in overtime, more than half, all with less playtime than Odom, if any other player had these numbers, even vujabrick, he will be best of the night, no doubt, and he is not even the 2 performer?, i think some people dont show Gasol the love he deserves.

  • pio2u

I know, I know….Bynum is the future, but come on!!! Is it too late to shop him for a big and include any other laker except Kobe, Gasol, Lamar, Ariza and package him? He sucks. I know he got potential but when? Or after this season, can we go after Shaq or Bosh?

  • ab4sure

[Comment ID #74983 Will Be Quoted Here]

ICM you admitted you were wrong about bynum before now you want to trade him again. Patience my friend you don’t want to make the same mistake twice.

  • lainok

If bynum really does end up working out with dwight this summer, then watch out for him next year. I think it will rub off on him and add a lot to his game. As for people wanting to trade Vujacic? I would love to see him go for somebody more productive, but after the way he is playing, do you think any team is going to pick him up at 5 million a year? Not when everyone is saving up for their entry into the Lebron sweepstakes. The lakers gave him way to big of a contract at the end of last season, and now they are paying the price for it. also…..

Laker fans got lucky. It should of have been a goaltend on Lee’s shot. Pau’s hand went through the basket. It’s all good though. The “O” will get three at home. Go Magics!!

  • RoWyN

[Comment ID #74975 Will Be Quoted Here]

I thought that was a ballsy call of a play. It wasn’t for the lose, it was for the win. It would have been a bad play if they were down by one or two.

  • pb2000

Aiiiyooo, this is a must see: Kobe Bryant rare footage

[Comment ID #74987 Will Be Quoted Here]

That goal tend and the one Dwight did blocking Gasol dunk THROUGH the basket were canceled out. So don’t bi@tch about it. The way I see it, your team lost and now they have to win 4/5 games. Any other team you guys are playing then I say maybe but not the Lakers and especially now when the lakers only have to win 2/5. One more thing, shut your mouth or we will have to also take that center away from orlando.

  • HolyGuacamole

[Comment ID #74987 Will Be Quoted Here]

Oh yeah, definitely. Even with all the non-calls and other crappy calls called against the Lakers. Like in OT, Turkoglu knocked the ball out of bounds, and the ref was RIGHT IN FRONT of him and said that Kobe knocked the ball out with his leg when clearly his leg was not even remotely near the ball in the replay.

And there was another obvious goaltend in the game when Dwight’s hand clearly went in the basket when Pau was making a shot. Did they call the goaltend? No.

Seriously, the refs are making unnecessary mistakes. Too inconsistent, and we don’t need that in the finals.

By the way. The Lakers got lucky? Yeah, because of Derek’s crucial steals and Magic’s careless turnovers. I think you should give the Lakers more credit for not choking under pressure.

  • pb2000

[Comment ID #74987 Will Be Quoted Here]

Oh, No doubt about that. That was a clear violation by Pau Gasol. Goaltending should have been the correct call. I’ll tell you why the reffs didn’t call it however, they’re being more consistent. Just like they refused to call Howard’s blatant goaltending at the beginning of the game where he blocked the shot through the rim!!! So there you go, Lakers fans aren’t lucky, we’re winners and win no matter what. 30/60 NBA finals, that’s what I call the greatest franchise in the History of sports!

  • LakersFirst

[Comment ID #74987 Will Be Quoted Here]

Goaltend!! Are you f’n blind? Yes, Gasol touched the net but Gasol’s hand NEVER touched the ball. How is that a goaltend when you never touch the ball (f’n idiot!)?

If you want to see a goaltend, check out Howard’s block on Gasol’s dunk attempt in the first half. Howard’s hand went through the rim and he touched the ball. That’s a goaltend!!

  • Scott

Lakers dodged a bullet. That alley oop would have killed the Lakers chances. Orlando will shoot better in Game 3. I expect Game 4 to be the Lakers best shot at winning in Orlando.

  • LakersFirst

[Comment ID #74983 Will Be Quoted Here]

Bynum is 21 years old and basically playing in his first playoffs. It would be stupid to trade a 7 footer who in the past has shown he can play when healthy. To be honest, if you look at Dwight Howard (23 years old), he has NO post up game. At least Bynum has a post up game.

As for going after Shaq and Bosh, the Lakers would have to trade for them as both of them are NOT free agents, until after next season.

  • RoWyN

[Comment ID #74987 Will Be Quoted Here]

aHH shut UP… Kobe got fouled by lewis on the Hedo block anyway.

BTW that kobe-less puppet commercial with lebron was hella funny!!

  • Ryan

[Comment ID #74987 Will Be Quoted Here]

Oh the hating will never stop…
B the W, since when has the plural of the Magic been the “Magics”?

  • gugy

Wow, that lay up was close on regulation, We were lucky on that one. but the Lakers hang in there and took another win.
I am starting to believe this thing is indeed going to be over and we will parade BUT, I am almost positive Magic will win the next one in Orlando. The LAkers really, just need one victory there and close this at Staples, BUT if they can finish it over there, that would be very nice too.

Haha. Bring on the hate. Laker fans are the worst. They always jump on and off the bandwagon. Laker fans are always holding out hope for By-numb and O-dumb. Orlando will be the 4th team in NBA history to win an NBA Finals series after being down 0-2. GO “O”

  • BigMck

Gotta give credit to the Lakers, especially Odom, Fisher and Gasol. Even when Kobe is jacking up bad shots and ignoring the open man, they are still able to deliver.

This could be a sweep. Enjoy your championship – even though it’s shallow and comes via one of the worst NBA Finals teams of all-time.

Hopefully the Celtics and Lakers will meet in next year’s Finals. That is if you don’t lose Ariza (he’s gone), Odom (he’s gone) and Kobe (hell, he might opt out and go to NY).

  • gugy,

As far as I remember you are fishing, so what are you doing here?

You can bring your hatred, but guess what, you will see Kobe get the 4th ring and just get pissed off.

My advice for you is to enjoy the ride and watch history in Kobe and the Lakers getting their 15th ship. If you are a true basketball fan you will enjoy it.

  • Lakers_TheTruth

The haters are here in big force.
They say our finals are shallow, they say Orlando will win the next 4 of 5, etc. hahahahaha

That makes me laugh. I love when those guys are so angry.
As for the Celtics, sorry but another 20 years without ship!
Cavs and Magic will just get better and the Bulls that almost kicked your ass, will also get better. Garnett is old and with a shot knee and Pierce is a POS that choke when it matters. Allen, might even leave your team. So bye, bye. big Baby is not your future. hahahahah

  • cjm

so if the Magic are one of the “worst finals teams of all-time”, and the Magic beat the celtics, then…

  • lakers2000

Haa Haa.^^^ Good point! Don’t get down on the haters. They are bored from not having a team to watch. STFU haters. Go Lakers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 123kid

im so sick and tired of majority of the media on how they picked orlando to win and all of sudden jump to the lakers wagon. on top of that i didnt realize they counted non-wins in series. f*ckin courtney lee missed the shot and they LOST. and honestly do u think the lakers are gonna lose the next 3. puhlease! since we’ve acquired pau, we havent lost no more than 2 games, 2nd the only other team that made that mistake is the mavs and last time i checked, the mavs dont have a guy named kobe bryant leading them, and lastly, the lakers are so determined to win by any means necessary, that orlando no longer has a shot! true laker fans>than nba analysis, espn analysis, tnt analysis, and media.

  • LongDongMamba

    It’s over for Orlando.
Their last hope was game 2.
Sure, they have a huge chance to win 1 or 2 games in Orlando, but that’s about it. The Lakers has not lost two in a row on the post-season and Kobe and the rest of the team is too focused to let this ship go.
I predict either Lakers in 5 or 6 at the most closing it at Staples.

  • sketch

Yo LO stepped up big time during this series! Pau was huge again last night! I think that all the fools that kept calling Pau “soft” can STFU now! The dude outplayed the so called superman for 2 straight games! Priority #1: resign LO and #2 resign Ariza!

Kobe, if you claim to be all about championships then I think that a restructure of your contract might be in order to accommodate those 2! Magic Johnson took a pay cut to keep Terry Teagle! Terry Teagle of all people! You can definitely take a cut to try and keep LO and Ariza on the team man!

And also, I know that you’re hard and you’re focused about winning the championship, but can you stop that ugly-@$$ grumpy role where you’re all serious and stoic. It’s just tired now! If you can give a smile on the court, why can’t you be in a slightly happier mood than the one you’re giving off in the press conference?

I’m a huge fan of yours and I’m just tellin you straight up how you’re coming across! It’s NO LONGER a matter of you being focused, you now just look like that you’re trying too hard to look like that you’re focused! Just lighten it up a little bit. You can continue to answer the questions with one word answers, but just lighten it up man! Keep the intensity and focus on the court!

    GO KOBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lilkobe24

[Comment ID #75013 Will Be Quoted Here]

ok.. your writing to kobe or something? hes not going to come and read this so stop

  • LongDongMamba

I want Kobe to be pissed until we win. That’s good that the guy is so focused, or you rather have him smiling and sudenly lose focus of it? Idiot.

  • Russ

yea, i agree…i want him to be pissed off…

last year, we were too relaxed and we lost. it was just embarrassing…i dont mind that he’s serious

anyways, i’m interested to see what the Lakers do this offseason.

even though they got rid of vlad rad, they ended up getting morrison (who isn’t even playing now) and brown (who barely plays because of fish and farmar)… so i donno if they’re gonna reevaluate that or just keep it the same.

also, there’s a big question mark on Bynum and Vujacic. i mean, lets be honest, they have not helped us during these playoffs. I mean, Bynum has been good but gets into foul trouble in every game. but Vujacic? whats wrong with him? he used to get us 8-10 pts a game and now he’s scoreless in every one he plays.

they gotta look at that and see what what they should do. i HOPE kobe takes a paycut in order to get Lamar and Ariza to stay for a couple more years. i mean, right now, we could easily win another 2 championships with this squad because you know the competition isn’t going to get that much better.

i say we keep Bynum though because having him and pau is better for us. Pau is a natural power forward so it’s better for him to be there instead of at center. And Bynum is going to get better. i have a feeling. As for Vujacic, Powell, Mbenga, Brown, and Morrison, i say consider a package deal to get someone good, but who knows?

  • Dwight Howard

We’re taking baby steps. We almost won. We (the magic men) will take game three. See you all in Orlando. Go Magics!

  • Lakers_TheTruth

All can go. If Mitch can pull out a magic trick and unload some of those guys that will be great.

I want Artest!!!!! I know it will be hard, but he would really bring a lot of toughness and D for our team.

  • Robert

poor ESPN. They’re ‘sad’ about the game??? The Magic ‘blew’ the game?? How about the fact that the Lakers are a ‘great’ team that disrupts the Magic game? How about ‘Phil’s coaching is spectacular’, and although Kobe says that his team missed assignments, the Lakers were hanging tough, and possibly CAUSING the turnovers? Turnovers aren’t necessarily given away. 20 turnovers for Magic? The Lakers TOOK those turnovers. Phil knows how his team should play the Magic, and he’s doing it. If the Lakers execute, then they win the series easily. ESPN can’t stand it that Kobe’s going to triumph. (well, except for Wilbon, and Magic, and maybe Kornheiser – I know they’re Lakers fans). Where’s Stephen A. Smith? He would be cheering for the Lakers. Mike and Mike? West Coast dominates – sorry. Lakers ARE the best sports franchise in history. Wilbon was right. …. the Lakers are a CHAMPIONSHIP team – everyone admit it! (including ESPN).

  • http://57.amklac kobe,bi-curious?

why did kobe stop making those funny faces???he is funny!

Lakers_TheTruth wrote: “I want Artest!!!!! I know it will be hard, but he would really bring a lot of toughness and D for our team.”

So are you saying that our toughness and D is not up to par? I would strongly disagree based on the last 4 games this team has played. And what position does he play, small forward? So you give up on Ariza? You may want to rethink your comment cause Ariza is going no where!

  • WatWudChickSay? (WWCS)

I had some great baseline seats for the game and Kobe was definitely hanging back in the first half, which, frankly, was a big mistake because it is clear that neither Pietrus nor Lee can stop him.

His lack of aggression in that half meant that the doubles the Magic were going to run never appeared, so the rest of the Lakers were covered.

Kobe has to play with aggression and bring on those doubles in order to give the other guys open looks or free runs to the basket when their defender races over to Kobe. Kobe hanging around the perimeter, looking to pass around the perimeter, does nothing.

Anyway, a killer game and I’m glad I broke the bank to attend it.

  • Lakers_TheTruth

[Comment ID #75034 Will Be Quoted Here]

We steped up our offense big time these last 4 games. That’s true. But I would still talk and see if Artest could come to LA.
I agreed that Ariza should come back. Odom it all depends how much pay cut he will accept and I hope Kobe also think big beyond $$$ numbers when he re-sign.

We need to make a move over the off season to strength out team even more.

  • sam the man

Magic fans your team is done with. Stop crying & wipe your tears good, & see the writing on the O-rena’s wall, “Lakers are the world champions,” as the legendary Chick Hearns would say. Yes, the game was tuff, a nailbiter ect. It was all by design by the crafty zenmaster. Game 2 was not for Kobe to win, it was a test if Pauo, Lamar, & the rest could deliver a victory on their own. The drama folded exactly as Phil had drawn out. You saw both Pauo & Lamar played extemely great, & the rest of the team chipped in nicely. On the other hand, Kobe was there to quaterback, facilitate, & hit some timely shots. Thats exactly what happened. To Jackson it was important to save Kobe’s legs for three straight games on the road. I saw evidence of that when Kobe was resting on the bench in crucial situations. It made me pretty nervous at times but I understood the plan. As Chick used to say, “better be lucky than good, you can’t teach height.” The Lakers are both lucky & long. The have solved the riddle of superman & reduced him to a superfluke. The lakers need to control 3point game of the Magic to a minimum, their only advantage, & they wouldn’t have any problem winning 4 staight. Yes, the Lakers are the world champions for sure!!! Go Lakers!!!!

I thought Kobe could have played better. Much more is expected of him, especially after that game 1 performance. He was sub-par and could have dished the ball out to three players on that last play before overtime.

We won, that’s all that matters. Hopefully Kobe will bring his A game and the rest of the troops will dig deep for a game 3 win. If they get game 3 it’s all over. I think the Magic will be completely demoralized.

  • sketch

Yo Dwight Howard, there’s a lot of things YOU don’t know! Like showin up to the NBA Finals! Or that the nickname Superman was already bein used by a certain fat fcuk in SNAQ! Like I said in a previous post, you’re like Jennifer Jason Leigh in the movie ‘Single White Female’! You’re just tryin to assume the identity of your idol! Just so sad! Especially because your free throw percentage is startin to look like his!

  • SomeonreadthistoLAkers why are you so quiet now??
“Laker fans got lucky. It should of have been a goaltend on Lee’s shot. Pau’s hand went through the basket. It’s all good though. The “O” will get three at home. Go Magics!!”

ROFL, do you know what NBA says about that called?
“NBA supervisor of officials Bernie Fryer told that if Gasol’s hand had shaken the basket, caused the stanchion to move or touched the rim while the ball was on the rim, the correct call would have been goaltending.

But since none of those things happened, according to Fryer, ‘It was a cut-and-dried no-call.'”

BUT what about Howard’s “superman block”?? tell me is that “arm-through-the-rim” block legal? if his arm was there, the ball would never, under any circumstance, go into the basket no matter Howard touched the ball or not. Now that is called a goaltending, stupid dumbF uck learn something before your sh!t came out of your mouth

I don’t think Bynum did terrible, he’s doing what we need. He’s playing well enough defense with his length, and fouling when he needs to. I’m ok with him fouling, he has 6 to use and putting dwight on the free throw line isn’t a bad thing eventhough he occasionally hits them.

  • LakerFan

I dont think we have anything to worry about guys. Odom and Ariza are coming back next season (trust me). Any one with any brains would take a pay cut to come back for a second championship. I agree with getting rid of Vujabrick and Morrison but thats not gonna happen no one wants them and they make way too much money for role players. I think Vujabrick should sit on the bench all next season and think about
hes headbands and chicks. Shannon Brown can fill his role no problem. he shoots better he can drive the ball and pass as well. Binum is fine hes trying to figure out how to play in the NBA still Id give him 2 more years before considering a trade. For the people that want Artest in LA maybe you dont remember how he cost the Rockets 1 or even 2 games this year by beenig a hothead. And Shaq? are u kidding me? that Kobe hater has worn out his welcome in LA F*** Shaq. Please no more Artest Or Shaq talk please,As for the (Magics?) hahahahaha! theyre done. We will win a game in Orlando most likely on thursday and then its over. Its our year Laker fans get ready for the parade.
