fisherWe did it! The Los Angeles Lakers secured their 15th NBA Championship tonight in Orlando!

After a Playoffs full of ups and downs, the Lakers finally put together back to back wins on the road.

Kobe, the 2009 NBA Finals MVP played his best game of the playoffs. He was a true leader tonight and every Laker followed (except maybe Sasha).

The Lakers opened the game by pounding the ball inside with Bynum attempting a quick 11 shots and only connecting on 3 of them. The Lakers then turned to their outside game and hit 8 of 16 threes and put the clamps on Orlando with a 16-0 run, seemingly unheard of in an NBA Finals.

The Lakers held Orlando to 8 of 27 from three and outrebounded the Magic 47 to 36 with 13 offensive rebounds. The Lakers also kept the game clean with 9 turnovers (not counting the 24 second violation with 3 seconds in the game).

I’ll keep the rest short so we can continue to celebrate! See you all at the parade this week!

Now, the bests of the day…

Top 3 Laker Performers

1) Kobe. 30 points, 6 boards, 5 assists, 2 steals, 4 blocks, and only 1 turnover. WOW!

2) Trevor Threeza did it again hitting two HUGE threes to blow this game open in the second quarter. He finished with 15 points and 2 steals and held Hedo to only 12 points tonight.

3/4) Pau and Lamar really did everything they needed to tonight. Pau had 14 points and 15 boards with 4 blocks. Lamar also had a double-double with 17 and 10 tonight. Great game from our bigs!

Lakers Smush of the Day (Note: STD denotes the Laker that played the poorest): Sasha went scoreless over 5 games. Poor guy…

Play of the Night: Luke’s oop to Ariza.

nice job la but if were gonna repeat we have to do some off season work.

  • ATLakers

    lol poor Sasha.

In the perfect world, Kobe would opt out of his contract and re-sign for less so that we could keep Ariza and Lamar … *sigh*, we can dream, right?

  • barcalakerfan4life

yeah poor sasha alrite this guy sucks did i mention he didnt even score a single point in the series against orlando?

Congratulations to the Lakers!! Play of the day = alley hoop to Ariza?? What about Kobe incredible double clutch shot vs Howard

  • 2Anush4

Congrats Lakers….what a run……….i am so happy and cant wait for the parade on WED
BEst part was watching the hugh smile on all the guys faces especially kobe

  • Mr. WoodCock

Vujabrick should give his ring to the water boy. At least the water boy showed up every game and was more consistent at bringing the players drinks.

Guess how many points Vujabrick scored in this series? ZERO!!! Dude sucks major donkey d!ck and was useless all year. How about giving the Lakers back some of that money you stole from them… same with Bynum. We need a good consistent point guard and defensive players for next season.

The coaches from each team exchanged handshakes… why didn’t the players shake each others hands and congratulate each other? Poor Howard was sitting on the bench watching the Lakers celebrate on his floor.

…Kobe needs to get plenty of quality rest this summer and mainly focus his efforts in recouping some of the tired lift to his legs, and should also take advantage of the time off and have the injuries to his hands taken care of!

  • kwame brown

congrats lakers!!! hopefully i get a ring for making the trade possible…

Sorry… forgot to say great post – can’t wait to read your next one!

  • Mr. WoodCock

I was watching the aftermath of the Lakers celebration at the Staples center on and it is pretty bad. The sad part is that most of these wannabe thugs/gangbangers are not even Lakers fans. They are just looking for an excuse to cause trouble. These are the kind of people that are giving the city and the team a bad name.

After the city watches this sh!t, you think they are gonna want to do a parade? I think NOT! All it takes is a couple of idiots to ruin it for everyone else. I think the players could care less whether there is a parade or not. They just want their rings.

  • Nabil

    HELL YEAH MOTHA F#(#ER$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    So….effen……..happy………. :) :) :)

Let’s all sing the happy happy joy joy song. :)

FISH: “I told you I’d shoot, but you didn’t believe me. WHY DIDN’T YOU BELIEVE ME?!!?!?”

Big ups to Craig Hodges. Without his helping Ariza, who knows. How many frekin’ clutch 3’s did Ariza drain throughout these playoffs. Last yeah when he arrived and we saw the hustle and heart, alot of us were saying, “man, he needs to get in the gym and get a good outside shot, then we’ll be really dangerous.” And low and behold, the man did it. Big, big props to Ariza for working his butt off to improve so quickly. Now if only we can resign him and Shannon and get Shannon to follow Ariza’s example…hot damn.

Lamar, Lamar, Lamar. He has finally redeemed himself completely in my eyes. And I think the fact that his is a story of redemption and overcoming makes it all the more sweeter (pun intended) for the Candyman. Seeing him with a big smile holding the trophy nearly brings tears… what a great story for all of us who have been through tough times, ups and downs, bouts of inconsistency, and unfufilled potential. Well, all that’s out the window now. Lamar is a champion now, and no one will ever take that away from him.

D-Fish, Lakers Nation has always loved you. Even when you were in Salt Lake, many of us cried for you on that incredible that night you inspired us all. And what a class act: in the interview on ESPN, he immediately gave thanks to the late Jazz owner. You hear that Jazz fans, you ignorant mother effers??!!? Y’all better give the man a standing ovation next time he rolls into town, the same standing ovation that you should have given him on his first time back…but whatever, this night ain’t for jazz fans, or any other fans…it’s for LAKER FANS!

Kobe and Phil, enough has been said.

Pau! He wouldn’t come in 2nd place yet again (finals loss, silver medal). This time he’s the winner. Man, what an amazing series and playoffs for him really. Think about the fact that he was guarding Superman and Lewis, a crazy strong center who owns the boards, and a 3 point assasin. How many players could have played that quality of d on both those guys?

Mbenga, thanks for that monster block. When your one moment came and they thought to attack you, you stood up and said, “Mbengameaodgjpi” which I guess is Congalese for “come in here, and you get Mbenged in the Mbutt.” For our 12th man to come in and do that right when they think we have us in a spot, that was another major dent in their confidence. Again, another amazing story he is. Now there’s a man who has been through some crazy stuff.

What a great storybook playoff push it has been. In one word: REDEMPTION.

    Yes sir! Sweet Redemption.

Lakers = Champs, Kobe = MVP, Life is good!!!

  • What will be…

LAKERS #1 once again… Thank you Phil, the greatest coach of all time, next to John Wooden…

Kobe, thank you one of the greatest of all time…

and to the team, thank you guys way to come together…

  • T-Dub

Ok…I officially take back all the supporting cast bashing I’ve done for the last 2 seasons since Kobe’s rant…except for Zasha the gayblade. Good job. Now only if they could dump Zasha and Farmar and move up in the draft to get a quality PG. Kobe needs to got sit down for a month, its only gonna get tougher for him at this point…30+ yrs.

  • Butch

Congrats to the Lakers. 2009 NBA Champs!
I knew it was over for Orlando when the TV camera showed their bench and no one was listening to SVG. They just turned away! If that isn’t a defeatist, give-up attuitude, then they didn’t deserve to win. Phil is the greatest (after Wooden). And Kobe is the greatest today. We just need to make re-signing Lamar and Ariza a prority.

  • Anthony

What a season. Congrats to all the Lakers and everyone here. Last season I left the tube on while Garnett and the rest of the Celtics celebrated. That made this year all the sweeter. Watching Kobe hop up and down is a memory I’ll not soon forget. Gasol and Odom with that look of disbelief. It’s simply amazing.

(not to get onto a sour note, but yeah Sasha did play just awful this season. Trade!)

  • PauKobeBynumOdomDynasty

This is the beginning of a dynasty guys. This is what i was waiting for the last 4 years. Its great to have this come back to LA. Take pics of the parade guys!

I didn’t think we would ever win again after losing to the pistons, but look at us now!!!!!!!!! WE ARE THE BEST IN THE WORLD!

Congrats to the Laker Nation that hang in here for so much time. Since the getgarnnet days, now we all know that thank god we did not get him and that bummed knee. Gasol was the trade of the decade indeed.

I can’t believe it has been 7 years since the last time we won. Time fly by. We were always entertained by this team. Even with the bad news through those 7 years, we always enjoy it for some degree. We as Lakers fans are blessed to have so much going on with our team, while some other franchises spend decades without nothing really exciting to celebrate.

Time to celebrate one more championship and banner at Staples. What a dynasty.

Kobe , just rest, rest and rest.
PJ, rest too and sign an extension for 2 more years!

Mitch congratulations for your first title as GM. Let’s bring Ariza and Odom back and let’s figure out a way to dump the remaining scrubs from our bench.

Finally, big thanks and props to the LakerNation folks that organized this site. It has been a pleasure coming here. I used to be a avid LAT Blog guy, but once this place came along, it is now my favorite destination. Keep the good work!

  • Mike

Guys – check this Lakers Children’s book out about the 2009 Championship team. I’ve already ordered three for my kid and nephews.

Some 5th grader made it with his dad.

    Go Lakers!!!!

    Just imagine…

KG in his gay sweater vest hops off the couch and starts unloading F-bombs at the TV…

    I love it!!!

    Congrats Laker fans!!!

Congratulations to the Lakers!! Play of the day = alley hoop to Ariza?? What about Kobe incredible double clutch shot vs Howard”

Totally agree. Not only was it a double clutch, but he moved the ball from right to left and still got off a shot in the face of the Defensive Player of the Year. I know you wrote this shortly after the game and it happened so quickly, but I actually paused the game and rewound it three times just to show it to my kids. WOW!

  • WifelovesLuke

And so this chapter in Laker history comes to an end. After so many ups and downs since the days of 3 peat, we can begin a new era with new faces. This is a young and now very experienced group. How the heck Buss and Kupchak don’t resign Kobe, LO and Ariza would be beyond anything comprehensible. Pay the luxury tax! You’ll have no problem getting your money back as we stack up the trophy’s!

Can we say it? REPEAT, baby!!!!!!

[Comment ID #76227 Will Be Quoted Here]

Yea, I’m talking to YOU …

For all those Laker doubters, those Laker “fans” that never believed in this team, for those people who thought this team was ONLY Kobe Bryant, for those that said this Laker team didn’t have heart, in other words for those people who never had faith in this Laker team, EAT YOUR WORDS and maybe now you will stick with the Lakers through thick and thin …

Trust me Laker doubters and bandwagon fans, I’m talking to YOU, when you stick with the team through the good times and the bad times, the championships are much sweeter.

  • james

Kobe Bryant is the MVP!! He is amazing!

  • jason007

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CHAMPIONS AGAIN WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO..this makes every second of living and dying with this team and yelling at the screen on every play worth it..i love this team :)

  • Kb24sdbest

CONGRATULATIONS LAKERS! You guys did it… We were with you all the way and you proved all our critics. I’m so proud and happy for the laker team to finally show some growth and toughness to make them champions. For Kobe, it’s amazing.. his in the top 10 of all time. He can finally shut his critics up and relax a little bit. I feel for this guy and the critics he received are unfair.
Everyone should appreciate Kobe’s game now and remember this moment because he’s only going to be here for a few more years and it’s not guaranteed that they’ll win it again next year. This year truly made me appreciate Kobe even more, the way he evolved as a leader by pushing his teammates to the max to excel. Kobe is the closest to MJ, and noone may ever get this close again. I’m fortunate to watch Kobe play throughout his entire career. I’m just soaking this in right now and thankful that we have #24 in our team.
I;m so excited for the parade. GO LAKERS!

  • lakerfan4ever

  • Vintij

Didnt I tell you guys in the second round? It dont matter how you get there, or how pretty it is, as long as you win 4 games in june, your the champs plain and simple. All you effing idiots who said they would barley get by houston and not get by denver, let alone cleavland. You guys dont know jack about basketball, you guys panic after every loss. Your not gonna win every game, and there is no reason to all the sudden say “they dont deserve it” after winning 65 games in the season. Screw those TNT and ESPN commentators who said they dont deserve it and they are arrogant. Wanna know why? Because they can be, because they’re champs. Theres already talk about them not winning if phil leaves, okay so Rambis and Shaw have been NOT mastering the triangle by watching him? Thats stupid, phil can leave and they will still win as long as Rambis takes over, or Brian shaw….as long as the triangle is still in tact I dont see them losing. (Well thats if they resign ariza and odom, because if they dont sign both of those players it would put alot of pressure on bynum to put up all star numbers. He can, but its never good to rely on a big man who is injury prone)

  • Pauer16

I’m so incredibly happy about the Lakers victory. Our men did an amazing job throughout the series. But, people, please don’t be so hard on Sasha. He’s in a slump, and I pray he can get over it this new season. He’s a great guy, and as quick as a fly.
